OFFICIAL NEWS Rian Johnson on the Freedom of His ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

I'd say leave him to get on with it. TLJ in my opinion didn't fit with where I think JJ wanted it to go and it felt like the final part of the trilogy rather than the middle. However I don't believe it was a bad film.

RJ had a great vision for the movie and his own creative ideas (minus the milk) were clever and inventive.

He has the creative and film making chops to tell a great story and I think having relative 'carte blanch' over a trilogy will only lead to success.

Earlier in this thread I said Screenplay was RJ's best shot at an Oscar nomination. Well, Knives Out made the Top 10 of the year from the AFI, so maybe I was wrong, maybe it can get nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Certainly hard to imagine it not getting nominated for Best Comedy at the Golden Globes.

 

It an especially strong year for movies. There's a ton of great one so I wonder if he gets any nominations. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not not nominated for any major awards.

 

Its 100% is going to be nominated for and probably win Best Ensemble at the Globes. If it does that, a Best Picture nom is a lock and a win isn't out of sight.

 

So Knives Out was nominated for Best Picture Golden Globe award.

 

The Golden Globes are weird. There are two acting nominations in what's really an ensemble film and no nomination for original screenplay. I don't think it's likely to win anything at the Globes.

 

The globes are the most shameless bought-and-paid for awards out there that people take serious for some reason.
The HFPA just nominated who they most want to meet in person lol. So I'm guessing they had to vacate the slot in writing for someone else

 

Yeah, it's Billionaires awarding Millionaires (though I say that for all awards) and we peasents are supposed to 'care' about them getting trophies for some weird reason. I tend care more about the editing cinematography awards. The more bts stuff. The ones that don't normally get the limelight.

 

I'm skeptical but optimistic. I'm sure he'll do good.

 

Its fair to say RJ divided a lot of us SW fans and there's a lot of concern over his future trilogy.

Since SW has always been in "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away"...solution would be to give him the neighboring galaxy to play in.
There you go.. no Jedi, Sith, Force, Republic, Naboo, baby yoda... etc... let RJ enjoy "his own sandbox" and whether he sinks or swims is up to him

You'll find some RJ haters around here, but they (and everyone here, really) are, for the most part, pretty well behaved We're a friendly community catering to friendly people

And yeah, Johnson is a gem of an artist & filmmaker!

Man, you nailed it. All of these awards are rich people giving other rich people awards, telling each other how awesome they are and preaching to us about politics.

 

Disney won't green light any more movies at Lucas film until Kathleen is gone.
