Knives Out has already made $128.3M. I'm surprised at how big of a hit it turned out to be.

I just returned from the cinema where my gf and I watched Knives Out. The film is great! Definitely a comedy, and conveluted as hellion, but oh so clever and movie-crafty. Johnson could teach classes on movie language and set-ups/pay-offs and plants and all the filmmaking tools, and Knives Out was basically a show-off of that stuff; very cool to watch for a layman :D And yes, the movie is absolutely ridiculous but crafty and clever and very enjoyable. I recommend everyone to go watch it. And the acting is rock solid throughout.

I also took great personal pleasure in Johnson deliberately and overtly subverting the audience's expectations within the first 2 minutes of the film, like in showing what subverting expectations really is (and not the "subverting expectations is the filmmaker trying to make you hate the film" bs that some haters have been peddling); very funny. :p

Well, I could go on and on about this film, but I think the less said the better. Go watch it! I think I give it an 8 out of 10, or something in that range; a really great film that will stick with me for a long time.

Oh! One thing, thought. I hadn't registered that Frank Oz was in the movie; it sure was nice to see him again :)

And then a I have a question, or perhaps more of a social comment... Is it realy murder if you strangler someone, say a talker & phone reader, in the theatre? That doesn't constitute murder, right? It's more like a civil service for the good of the nation, right? A heroic act deserving of a medal, right? (On the other hand, he did leave his umbrella in the theatre and I totally stole it purely out of spite, so there! :D )

So, here's a fantastic interview with Johnson. I've lost control of what's been posted where and how, so I'll just post the link... In any case, it's very good :)

Knives Out was phenomenal. Easily one of the best movies of the year. Tension bled into every scene, the humor was mostly on point, and the cast was PACKED and all brought their A-Game. I want to see an Oscar for this movie.

However, this does bring a few thoughts, some of which will become more clear once I see TROS.

Now I havent seen TROS yet, but from the reactions/reviews I have read one of the biggest criticisms relates exactly to what Rian says in this interview.

Also near the end there is this:

In taking on such a massive franchise, Johnson admitted he worked collaboratively with J.J. Abrams of “The Force Awakens” and “The Rise of Skywalker.”

“It was a collaborative process the entire way, but it was launching off of J.J.’s movie and having conversation’s with J.J.,” he said adding that he’d consult the whole story team to “work the whole thing forward."

Pretty amazing that he'd already be working on sequel. Good for Craig and for Johnson.

Knives Out was easily one of the best movies of the year, so smart and fun to watch.

Well it doesn't sound like the 2022 movie is going to be Johnson then.

The rumor has been whatever D&D were working on will be the first film. If RJ is working on his own idea it's unlikely they'd use him for the first film. So that means if he really does a Star Wars film he's got time to kill.

I saw that and internally cheered for RJ. Not sure if he'll want to come back to Star Wars if he's having so much fun working on other projects (although he might be like author Brandon Sanderson, who constantly switches projects in order to keep himself fresh and not burn out). I'm looking forward to it regardless!

I low-key think it'll actually be the movie Kevin Fiege is developing. Star Wars is divided; the MCU really isn't. If a Star Wars comes out with Fiege's name attached (and imagine if he brought the Russo Bros and Markus and McFeely with him), there's gonna be a LOT of positive buzz and interest.

In September, during a Q&A publicity event for Knives Out, Johnson stated several times that working on TLJ was the best periode in his life, something he enjoyed immensly, and he was stoked about working on another SW project. Again, this was while hyping KO. At this point it seems safe to assume that Johnson will gladly return to SW when and if he can :)

That's actually cool, because even though The Last Jedi got a lot of hate, we at least know Rian's heart was in the project, and he really tried.

Oh, I would say that not only did he really try, he really really succeeded as well. TLJ is easily the strongest movie in the franchise, IMHO.

There's a certain movie that is up for BP and director that should absolutely not be IMO, that spot should have easily gone to any of at least 5 others...including Rian and Knives Out
