Since 1983 I've wanted to see Luke Skywalker on the big screen again. For 40 years, Luke and Star Wars were a huge part of my life. I was over joyed to hear about TFA and Mark's return to the big screen as Luke only to be let down by the minuscule screen time and no lines. Then comes TLJ. I'm ready to see Mark take the show. And he did! Fantastic performance! Luke was back! Then, just as quickly, they take him away.

I feel like I lost a family member. What was a good movie up until the end, left me feeling empty as I left the theater. Mark, and his character gone with some many missed opportunities and so much story that could have been. Little things like a teaching moment with Rey by lifting an x-wing from the water. It was RIGHT THERE! Perfect opportunity passed up. And the chance to see Luke and Rey side by side in battle. What a way to re-spark a rebellion to have the galaxy know that Luke is back and he's got back up with him!!!

Luke's death was too early. If it had to be done, it should have been done mid Ep 9 but I don't understand why it had to be done. Yes, I know Disney wanted to "pass the torch" to the next generation but what next generation is there? I thought Ep 9 was the end? I guess it will be the end of the Skywalker linage with Ben's death. So I guess Luke has to die so they can end that story line.

I say all that to say that Luke Skywalker has been a HUGE part of movie lore for 40 years. There are still lots of story left to be told about him. That opportunity needs to be grasped while it's still here.

We've lost Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford has no desire to reprise his role again. However, I believe Mark would jump at an opportunity. So, why he still can, why not get a Skywalker Star Wars story set between ROTJ and TFA. A good side adventure. Pair him up with Iden Versio on some side mission. Or show him gathering young Jedi to train and the ordeal with the KOR. ANYTHING to get Mark back as the lead on the big screen while we still can.

Next generation of Skywalker? Or simply a next generation of characters? If the latter, why bother creating a trilogy over a group of protagonists in which there is no Skywalker in the bunch?

I absolutely agree that Luke should get his own film/trilogy. I've been thinking this for a while actually. They could set it a few years before TFA, before Ben's fall, or after the ST, with Luke returning somehow. If done right, it would be awesome, and would be a great way to win back Luke fans and the hardcore fan base, not to mention create new fans among the new generation of kids. Disney would be smart to do this and do it soon, while Mark still can. Huge potential! It would have the real potential to out perform the ST at the box Office too imo.

I would be ecstatic at even just one movie about old Luke. I think Hamill might be too old to do an entire trilogy. But he did a scene with young Ben, and so he's not too old to be Luke at that or a similar point in time. Hamill also loves to do SW. This movie could flesh out why Luke lost hope. It wasn't just one mistake, but several. Why does he dislike the old Jedi texts? TLJ leaves a lot of questions and this movie, I think, would be a fan favorite if done well. A lot of people disliked how Luke had very little moments with his true self in TLJ. I think the standalone movie should display just how powerful Luke became. I don't think it should end with Luke's temple destruction because that would be too depressing. It should end on a good note, but it should still demonstrate Luke's character progression in a believable way.

They could even throw Sebastian Stan in there as young Luke if a flashback or transition is needed???

I wouldn't mind a film set after ROTJ and before TFA. However, I truly believe LF needs to get away from basing Stand Alone films on one character. The Boba Fett film... No. Solo, too troubled. I'm not even sure about an Obi Wan film, and he is my favorite Star Wars character of all time.

Love it or hate it, Johnson's Luke Skywalker vision was polarizing (even that may be too generous). I would love for Lucasfilm to greenlight a post Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker movie. Something that shows him out cleaning up the Imperial remnants or searching for knowledge it would be a great way to give everyone a little more closure for Luke if you were one of the many that did not care for the latest vision. Of course it has been fan casted to death but you could not get me more hyped than casting Sebastian Stan as Luke. Dave Filoni for the story!

The “Next generation” was a quote from Disney. They were saying that the sequel trilogy would be passing the torch to the next generation.

Solo turned out to be a good and fun movie! I’m hoping to see that story arc continue in Boba Fett and maybe Obi Wan as well. Solo is the only single character focused movie they’ve done and it turned out well. I believe a Luke story could do really well......if written correctly.

Whatever its legacy will eventually be, the Sequel Trilogy will probably not be remembered as the trilogy that passed the torch to the next generation of Skywalkers. It is looking more and more like VII, VIII, and IX functions as the end of the skywalker saga. It serves more as an epilogue than a continuation, the closing chapter of Anakin’s legacy. Luke dies a legend, Leia will probably die as a hero of the Resistance, and the last direct bloodline to the Skywalkers is an evil dude who runs the empire.
To stay on topic of this thread, I would also like to see a Skywalker movie. I was hoping to see a young child actor portray Luke in the Obi Wan Kenobi standalone (but that is up in the air.)

A standalone film, set within the first decade or so of the New Republic era (possibly the first couple of years), using a de-aged Mark Hamill and/or a CGI-faced stunt double to portray 20- or 30-something Luke would be absolutely friggin' rad! There is so much potential here, to set up the ST and explore the post-RotJ galaxy, not to mention giving young Luke another day to shine. I would love it! :D
