So I'm sure some of you have seen this short fan film before, but I just discovered a remastered version with some of the score from Rogue One and some voice acting as well.
I would LOVE to see Disney do something more like this for a future TV project.
Tell me what you guys think!!

You know, I'd be down for something like this.

Here's the thing- I'd rather them go the obvious route and really embrace the prequel/KOTOR side of this

    or

completely ignore force users in it and focus entirely on the GCW from a battlefront perspective.

Either would be interesting, I think- one more traditional, the other extremely against the grain.

Thank you so much for this post! It's the first time I've seen this Anime and I absolutely loved it. The animation is beautiful.

So interesting how the TIE fighter pilot's have been humanised in this work.

I do love the Anime art style, it's mesmerising. I would be all for an Anime SW series. Not sure if Disney would be into this type of work but I do wonder.

Once again thank you for this post.

Neat idea, but I personally do not like anime. I could look past the art style if they do a cool idea like the ones above.

Edit: After actually watching the short, I actually wouldn't mind seeing this done, as long as they tone down some of the rapid "camera" movement. I liked how it humanized the TIE pilots as well.

i'm not the biggest fan of animé as a style of art, but having worked in the medium for some years, i do have a strong appreciation for its world-building sensibility. generally animé storytelling tends to be more immersive and therefore can be more emotionally satisfying than other animation forms.

given that i don't like the current animation for TCW or Rebels, i would have no problem whatsoever with a Star Wars animé (and might even prefer it to the other two on style alone despite my reservations). : D

Although I would really enjoy any story set in the prequel and especially the TOR, I think the "boots on the ground" (or in this case "butts in the cockpit":D) feel set in the GCW really would lend itself to anime.

It initially reminded me of all those animes back in the day like Voltron, Gundam Wing, etc., where you follow a squad of mech pilots or something of that nature. Imagine a show totally focused on a squad of Tie pilots working their way up the ranks, maybe getting promoted into some elite group like Inferno squadron. I think that would be awesome!

Anime can be very cool, but Anime is not for Star Wars.

If it is made, it needs to be done in the style of an OVA instead of a syndicated, weekly series in order to ensure that the animation quality is consistently up to snuff. Madhouse would be good for a project like this.

I really don't know, this is the first and only picture we have right now. It's from the French event Rendez-vous des partenaires 2018 in Paris.

Holy hand grenade, this was great! So much tense drama and chaotic action, but still effortlessly easy to follow; I’m impressed! And I love the very 80s style, no nonsense animation!

The only things I could pluck at are, the zoom-in-on-eyeball gag (which was WAY overused), and one example of poor/passive writing (“Sir, we are ALMOST ready…” With drama/tension, you’re not allowed to say "almost"; things either happen or they don’t, so this should be “Sir, we are ready…” or “Sir, we’ll be in range of the transport in 5 seconds, 4… 3… 2… 1…”). But yeah, these are VERY minor points. All in all, this fan film is fantastic! I would love to see this kind of tension in the new animated show :D

Wow, I just saw some fantastic new Star Wars I didn't know existed :D Yay!

Wow. That new Resistance trailer looks pretty good. I am a tad bummed its not more of a traditional anime style, like the fan made one above, but I think I can get over that.

I will just have to wait and see how good the stories are.
As far as animation, I’m afraid to admit it, but it is exactly what I was fearing: cell-shading that looks like CGI through a frosted glass window. The freeze-frame stills seen in articles today look gorgeous and detailed, but once the characters and ships start moving..., well, let’s just say I wish this was done in hand-drawn animation.
On the bright side, I think Poe looks very much like the one in the live action films, and I am glad they are including more aliens in central roles.
