    Discussion time!

Constance Wu is a pretty talented actress, capable of both earnest and heartwarming moments as well as quirky and hilariously frightening. I want to put that to good use and stretch her a bit. In her new role, she'll be a Sith, one who truly believes that she is doing the right thing, but her offbeat earnestness weirds out her allies. I don't want people to think that all Sith are like Palpatine or Vader (or even Dooku), and I think Constance can bring the variety I seek in that.

(Skip to about the 2:30 mark)

Granted, while I knew Constance was a shoe-in for this role once I hashed out my concept, her role in this draft wasn't a guarantee. The more I learned about what's needed to make a film, the more I wanted to focus on that - production designer, fight choreography, editing, all of these things became points of interest because as this went on, I felt the draw towards how the movie should look and feel versus who was playing the parts. The reason I didn't go with any of those choices was two-fold:

First was options - I wanted to keep my options open for any other draft I may partake in, and choosing one of the people I thought about for the above roles here may have limited that choice. So while you'll hear about some of these other roles in the "Afterparty" discussion, I'm technically free to use them later on! :p:p:p

The second part is that I felt I needed more star-power. Sure, The Russo Bros & Markus/McFeely combo may get butts in seats, but none of my other picks really have roles from things that people can name; and people watch movies and shows for some of the actors as much as they do for the plot - would the new Jumaji movies have taken off if not for the cast? (Michelle Yeoh is the exception to this rule, as her roles in Crazy Rich Asians, Star Trek Beyond, 007: Tomorrow Never Dies, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon mean that she has a lot of roles people may recognize.) Constance is well known for her role as the mother in Fresh Off the Boat and as Rachel Chu from Crazy Rich Asians.
I understand that this latter point is a bit...controversial in Star Wars, as if the star in question is too famous on their own or has a certain acting style (*cough* The Rock who I also love *cough*) this can affect the movie in ways that are distracting. I think Constance is known enough to have some star impact while not popular enough to distract people from the movie.

Oh man, I love this choice. And that role sounds amazing. As a fan of @Alamact's Old Republic Paint Adventures I can totally get behind the concept of an atypical Sith (The protagonist dark lord, Darth Saber, is a light-sided Sith ). It's pretty crazy that we've been given all sorts of Jedi, but Sith still pretty much come from the same mold.

Also, I haven't seen Fresh Off the Boat yet but after watching those clips I really think I need to.

Thanks! Fresh Off the Boat isn't my favorite of the ABC shows, but I think its cast is one of the strongest.

Don't forget actors who aren't in the movie but are rumored to have auditioned for a part, so we can fuel the theory train!

Let's try and set a goal of this weekend for the final pitches.

Does anyone have any problem with turning in your completed product to @RoyleRancor by the end of this coming Saturday, Feb 6th??

OK @RoyleRancor this might be a stupid question....but what format do you want our movie summary to be? Just a conversation message direct to you that you can copy and paste? I have a couple of images that go with my submission is that OK?

    @RoyleRancor
Guys, I'm sorry about this, but I'm going to have drop.
I'm neck deep in my screenplay project and way behind on my deadline (and the rewrite is running wildly over page count that I'll need to trim on top of it...somehow).
I'm essentially a month over-due as it is, and it's looking like I'm going to be 2 months over-due if I finish before Monday (as the initial reader review and proof process itself takes about a month), and I've still got 60 some-odd pages to finish before this Monday to hit even that.

I was hoping to have gotten much further, but mud happened because of testing this past week that meant a critical pivot needed to happen, but unfortunately, that critical pivot ripples through almost every page of the screenplay as it was in regards to how a single scene in the middle just did not work, and the only way to fix it was to effectively change an entire character from the ground up...effectively causing....
    sheldon-furiously-throws-papers-on-the-ground-on-big-bang-theory.gif

All this while a producer's window of availability is rapidly closing on this project.

    Long way of saying,

So, that sucks...I'm really sorry about that.

For what it's worth, all I ever got around to was the logline, which doesn't really tell you what all of the characters would be doing - just the basic premise.
For the curious of mind, I'll leave that here as it won't be part of the final voting match.

    LOGLINE
As war breaks out between peoples, a young boy and his Father flee for their lives into the wilderness and stumble upon a mysterious Force which might stop the fighting if they can navigate through the war torn land safely and trick leaders from both sides into seeing the promise of the Force without killing each other first.

    Concept:
It's a sort of mix-mash between The Hidden Fortress (Navigating through a war through trickery to deliver a game-changing McGuffin, and the general layout), National Treasure (Father/Son antagonism on adventure), and How to Train Your Dragon (Son struggling to stop a "war" as his Father struggles to change his views and trust his Son).

I know that's not much to go on and doesn't really answer how all of the people I picked would line up, but that's honestly all I have had the time to develop and I'm simply not going to have time to do a proper breakdown and development.

Sorry....I really wish I hadn't pulled the cord so late in the game!
Things just are intense at the moment.
    KK, enough apologizing...work to do....
    200.gif

    Cheers,
    Jayson

Good luck on finishing your screenplay! May the Force be with you! (And if you ever get around to filling out your story/plot stuff for the draft game, don't be afraid of sharing it!)
