Producer Ram Bergman (The Last Jedi) has just unveiled new details about the trilogy of films that Rian Johnson will also produce, including when (at the absolute earliest) work on the first movie will actually begin, along with a possible location where the films could shoot.

Speaking to the Israel-based publication From The Grapevine, Bergman did a quick Q&A with the publication about his experience with the Star Wars franchise and with producing films, and how both will influence his continued work on the franchise. When asked specifically about the new trilogy of films that he will produce alongside Johnson, Bergman stated the following:
As it stands, it sounds a lot like we'll be a ways away before this trilogy actually gets made, but Lucasfilm certainly seem committed to the idea. It will be interesting to see a Star Wars movie that's quite removed from many familiar elements, and in all likelihood, the characters who we've already met.

Looks like they're taking their time with this, but two years from now for the release of the first film is actually the earliest possible date. It would mean it's the next one to come after IX and I would love it if that was true.

Gotta say I'm nervous about this project. I don't see a real reason for it to be cancelled, but well... stranger things have happened.

They should probably announce what it's gonna be about as soon as it's settled. In this case, the longer anticipation is building up, the better.

I speculated that it's possible that after EPIX (2019), we have a standalone (2020, either Obi-wan or Boba), Rian's first film (2021) and then D&D's (2022, since they are truly starting next year when GOT is finished).

Considering that Rian pitched the trilogy to Disney execs, not just Kennedy (though I have no doubt that she was there), I hope that that cancellation is not in the cards.

Yeah, this is likely as well. I'm wondering if the financial failure of Solo had an impact on the decision about the next standalone. It makes you think about it, but personally, I think the repercussions will influence release dates (no more May) and marketing. I don't think the subject of the film itself is a big concern, since people generally liked Solo. Anyway, I wouldn't mind if there was no standalone in the foreseeable future.
