Daisy Ridley has confirmed that the ending to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was tweaked somewhat in the midst of production, although it sounds like the story mostly plays out in a way similar to the ending that was previously written.

A reporter from Chicago asked Ridley about her experience making the film and how different it is to learn about the ending on the set of a film instead of in the audience on opening night. Ridley revealed that not only did she know the ending well in advance of filming, but she also noticed a small but important difference between the ending she was told about and what she actually was going to film:

Ridley previously knew of another ending for the movie when Colin Trevorrow was attached to write and direct. Trevorrow later parted ways with Lucasfilm, which led to Abrams arriving to take over. Since the movie still has yet to undergo additional photography, it's entirely possible that the ending could change even more before the film sees a wide release. But in any case, she seems to be happy knowing the way that The Rise of Skywalker ends.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker will be released on December 20, 2019.

This thing off camera? Makes me think of something that it could be. But just my mind wondering and probably wrong.

Could off camera imply a voice, or something added through green screen? Interesting use of words.

She said "We did the thing on this side of the camera", probably just meaning she doesn't know how it'll work out in the finished film.

Meaning they acted it, but they won't see all the added effects or know which takes they go with from which angles and how it all blends together. I also suspect that they shot the movie asynchronously, so the cast won't even have seen the movie in order

I think in an interview Daisy said she new the ending. I think it was one of those group interviews but can't remember which one. It is out there though.

It was a different interviews to this. I could be wrong and interpreting badly - forgive me if that is the case.

Scratch that - She just says its a very satisfying end. Perhaps she knows? I don't know

Sounds to me like she's ready for all this to end... Green around the time of TFA and due to the wonderfully kind nature the internet is... sounds (and looks) just over all this. Can't blame her, I think she is awesome as Rey, hope down the road if they do decide to continue her story, she comes back as Rey...

I thinks is in a very common thing in Hollywood. They sit back and go I think this feels a little off and then the what if we start. It does make me wonder if they will give us the original on the Blu-Ray with some commentary on why the change to what we get. Then we will all sit and watch it, along with the 27hours of other stuff and wonder why their isn't more. LOL

Maybe but she's a lot more happy this time around compared to how she was before TLJ. Even one journalist commented on her mood.

But she does seem a bit pissed with all the shipping crap.

I think people are trying to read way too much into Ridley's turn of phrase and wording usage.

I also don't think it's wise to treat this kind of information as some big 'revelation' because it gives the wrong impression, which is that changing a film's ending while production on said film is still going on is somehow unusual when the truth of the matter is that it isn't unusual at all.

The change was probably something simple like she drops her driver's license and it can quickly be seen that her last name is Palpatine, whereas before it said Skywalker.

Similar to TLJ, I honestly think Mark Hamill was surprised that Luke died at the end (if he really did).

Plus, what conclusions can we draw, if we don't know what the original idea or the current ending is....and it could still change in post.

    Really? I never noticed that.

I imagine that's not always possible. Sometimes this may change depending on actor's availability, locations and other factors... I'd also say that incorporating Leia's footage may have messed with the chronology of it all in some way or another.

This may be true but sometimes other logistics might dictate when certain scenes are shot, even if the director has a general track record that is synchronous

We had this argument about JJ before. TFA schedule changed due to Harrison Ford breaking his leg. The beginning and the end was the same. They actually filmed on ach too three times. Once when it was moved up after Harrison's injury, then again at the end , then one final time under Rian doing an intro to TLJ. Rian of course then went onto film major parts in that film there. Will it be the same this time? Probably yes but without the leg break.

Odd sounding to me. Kinda concerning. Hope they have planned this out and aren't just winging it lol.

I mean TLJ was obviously a type of film that just derailed from TFA in many ways, but it was planned to go that way. I wonder if TROS just changed something up outta nowhere. That would be concerning if so.

The sequel trilogy could have been better planned out over all I believe. some agreement between the stories told and elements of it would have helped Rian Johnson create a film more fitting to TFA. But it seems like alot of stuff has been getting changed since TFA . i honestly dont think Sidious was always going to have a role in the sequels either despite those claims . The sequels are going to be remembered well I believe but seems like some story elements have been mismanaged. The way TFA and TLJ feel disjointed due to decisions, is enough to see some story choices made were questionable in ep8.
Hope ep 9 isnt the same.
Ep9 has aAlot to be ecstatic for but I really hope JJ doesnt do something that hinders the story just for the heck of it
    --- Double Post Merged, May 14, 2019, Original Post Date: May 14, 2019 ---
This is the ending to a trilogy. The ending should habe been planned already to ensure it's a fitting one.

Just hope the ending change isnt something major. If it's good it doesnt matter obviously, but this is the final act and things should be planned
