    Actually that's where Obi Wan is wrong. It should be Only a child deals in absolutes. I always have to go to bed too early, You'll never allow me to watch enough TV,..., I hate peas, they're small and round and irritating and they get everywhere.

    Indeed. Children say “I’ll never play with you again,” and then the next day play with the person they said that to. However, I think Obi-Wan is referring to absolutes as in “you agree with me or you are my enemy [you are either with me or against me]!” and “you side with me or I will kill you.” He’s reacting to Anakin’s all or nothing syndrome. If you look up Borderline Personality Disorder, Anakin is listed as a fictional example by psychologists. Borderlines love you passionately, but if they perceive you are going to reject them or know they are going to become rejected, they trigger and become hostile and an enemy; Anakin did this with Padme:

    Anakin: The Jedi turned againat me, don’t you turn against me!

    Anakin: You brought him here to kill me!

    Anakin: You turned her against me!

    Obi-Wan: You have done that yourself!

    Anakin: You will not take her from me!

    Obu-Wan: Your anger and lust for power have already done that. Until now.. you have become the very thing you swore to destroy.
