A really good episode moving along nicely

I really liked the campfire scene with Fennec telling Boba he's gone soft, but him countering that a tribe makes you stronger

that will keep the folks moaning about boba's character being so different quiet at least lol

it might not be to everyones liking but the chef droid and rat catcher scene had me and my boy in stitches, such a great scene

also krrsantan showing us he's a complete badass, and giving us the arm pulled from socket shot that we've always wanted but only had in deleted scenes before

and finally the little drop of Mando theme right at the end... wow!!

First of the series I really liked. The first three, I liked simply because Star Wars. Not even sure what was different this time but it was really good. I do not think Disney does Justice with so few Episodes. Really like to see more action in between plot. CGI could be a bit better in parts. Even original SW had better and less choppy hovering and flight.

4 episodes to figure out that everything in Star Wars is far far better with a cool ship.

I've decided to look at this show as if it's a live-action comic, and it's helping. I feel like that gives the show more leeway with its tenuous through-lines and structures, and also doesn't require any more depth than is needed to make you interested in what happens to the characters without looking for deeper meaning.

So that said, any images of Boba without eyebrows in that black robe outside of a Tusken camp make him look like Uncle Fester. You won't be able to unsee that now, you're welcome.

ANYWAY, aside from Fennic's plastic metal surgery (I have seen enough from the new EU that I conclude that modding is a Thing in the post-Empire world), I liked most of the set pieces in this one. I was kind of meh about the Wookiee fight (why was he mad?) but I liked the others for the most part. I was impressed with the set of Jabba's palace kitchens--the floor was a mess, as it should be. It was pure silliness chasing that droid around, and if the CGI wasn't top-notch, I can live with that. It was also silly that Boba's sonic charge killed the Sarlac (check that off the box of Things That Must Happen), but it didn't mess up Slave I at all? Fine, fine, it was fun. And fitting too. My favorite was Boba busting Slave I out of prison and Fennec taking the shot to open the bay door. Nice. (Why don't GFFA baddies ever, like, forgo disabling the hyperdrive and just take out the weapons and drain the fuel of their captive ships? Because it wouldn't be as fun, that's why.)

Today I also learned that Banthas wag their tails and eat meat, and that is why they need someone to floss for them. The More You Know.

I liked the bit where Boba sees Din's flash charges in the distance. I didn't realize what they were until I heard the Mando recorder skirl. It was a bit annoying that in the previous scene scouting Jabba's palace, the hem of Boba's robes was a ragged mess, and in the next it's perfectly straight and tidy looking. I guess in between he went into Mos Eisley and got repairs done and picked up a chunk of meat for his desert campfire? It's fine, it's fine, it's fun. I wonder what the Mando theme at the end of the episode means. It seems like our Mando and the Mandalorians in general are occupied with bigger (Imperial remnant) things, but maybe we are working toward an epic Marvel-type climax in which the crime syndicates join with the ex-Empire club and the good guys of the era all fight them.

This certainly was the best episode of the show by far, doing almost everything it set out to do well. Boba's backstory is pretty much finished up, we get all the minor (to me at least) questions answered, and we can move onto the present and look at tying things up. The ending really makes it feel like they have one episode, maybe two to finish things up instead of the three we have planned. But I can see it. Next episode we gather our forces, in Episode 6 we have a calm before the storm, and Episode 7 is all-out war.

    The Good:
I liked the directing, pacing, and even the flashbacks this time around. The flashbacks answered the questions of what Boba did after the Tuskens, how he met Fennec, how he got his ship back, and why he wants to be a crime boss (we'll come back to this last point). They also had Min-Na Wen, who, and I can't stress this enough, is always a win.
Black Krrsantan's background. Now, the flipside to this is that they're not exploring the fact that the Wookie was ALSO a bounty-hunter, which makes things a little annoying for fans who have seen him be a bounty-hunter, but that's a minor (if not constantly annoying) quibble.
    The sonic charge was beautiful.
I know this section is smaller than the other ones, but I do want to emphasize that the episode did so much right that it's easier to not cover it all (when compared to earlier things I've complained about that are now done right). I'm sure a lot of other people will cover the things they loved and what this episode did right, and I can't wait to read it all!

    The Bad:
The music in the mod shop was really weird, even by Star Wars standards. I'm all for weird in my Star Wars, but this just jarred me out of the episode. I didn't even mind the mod stuff too much! It was just the music. But music is always an emotional and evocative thing for me, so when I don't like it, I really don't like it.
The kitchen fight scene. I like the little rat-catcher droid, but the chase to catch it was pointless. Even Fennec recognized that. I think letting the droid see that there are no rats and move on would have been cute, tense, and relieving all at once. Then we could have used that time to sneak around the palace. This is a minor complaint in the scheme of things, but it's still one I want to bring up.
The bacta tank stuff. I was really hoping for a reason that Boba needed to use it other than the wear and tear of the desert, because if there was a later reason, then Boba's fights in the past could have been justified by something else. But nope, it's just a throwaway "hey, you should really use this" line.
I'm still confused on the timeline.

    The Ugly:
I know at the tail-end of Episode 3's conversation there were jokes about how Boba would transport Fennec on the bantha, but I didn't think it would actually happen. That really threw me for a loop, and I couldn't take that seriously at all.
Boba still hasn't really shown me how he's going to be a good crime leader, or an effective one. Screaming "I'm the legitimate crime leader and deserve tribute!" is one thing, but I still need to see action from him. So far, we've seen him walk down the streets and address literally one problem. Maybe this season is focused on legitimacy and next season is authority, but those are two things that could be solved with each other - Boba achieves legitimacy with the people by exerting his authority, instead of assuming he's legitimate because he's in a position of authority.
Because this flashback was so well done, I find that I needed only this one for the entire show to work. I didn't need to see Boba work with the Tusken Raiders as much as he did. Boba perfectly summed up everything in a two-minute summary of his past, motivation, and future plans. It was succint and precise, and it moved the story to more interesting bits. We always hear the advice of "show, don't tell," and while that is true, I think the addendum of "except when what you're going to show is far less interesting what just telling us and moving onto showing something else that's more interesting" can also be a valid thing. If BOBF didn't want to open with Boba escaping the Sarlacc Pit, then I think this would have been a fine first episode for the show, or at least a fine first part of the first episode. It certainly wouldn't have bored me at all.*

Now, back to the question of "why." Earlier this week, there was discussion involved with what the big question of this show is. Some believe it to be the question of "why does Boba Fett want to be a Crime Lord." I think that's a good question, but it's not the driving question of the show. The question of "why" is answered here with little need for explanation or conflict or pushback. Admittedly, the flashbacks do help in setting up the why* but overall it's just a why-because sort of problem. I think the main crux of the show is "how," as in "how is Boba going to lead?" They openly ask this question in Episode 3, with Fennec stating to Boba at one point that everyone is waiting on how Boba is going to respond and lead once he had been attacked. Every challenge presented has two options Boba can take at first: the way of the Hutt, or the way of Boba. Even in this episode, the reason the captains are worried about the Pykes and Boba is because they're worried if Boba is going to be like the Hutts, Bib Fortuna, or something entirely different. How is Boba going to lead? How is he any different than those who came before him? THAT is the crux of the show, and that is where Boba Fett is being challenged. At least, that's how I see it.

Overall, this episode does pretty much everything right for the show. I'd call it a balanced and improved 8.5/10. This show is finally finding its momentum (and it's when the flashback stuff comes to an end), I really hope it can keep this up! Also, my first reaction to the title of this episode is "hey, this isn't the twelfth Wheel of Time book! You don't get to use that title!"

*I think the Tusken Raider stuff could have been put in a book leading up to the show instead of in the show proper. That way we could get an even deeper glimpse into Boba's psychology and mindset during this part of his journey. The pacing in the book could work with the timeless nature of Boba's time with the Raiders instead of against it, and we wouldn't have to worry too much about Boba being...larger than he should be during that time. Having this all on the screen wasn't a wasted format for everyone, but I still think that time could have been put to better use elsewhere, and it would have made for an interesting tie-in book.

Well, I believe in episode one a Trandoshan gives the Crimelord a Wookie pelt as a tribute, so the species doesn't get along... that was another joke right? HAHA

There's a long, in-universe history of trandoshans hunting wookiees for sport. Their peoples are nemesises.

    And now the desconstruction.

A little better than previous three. At least it has character development and the story is more interesting.

Started normal. Mostly cause I am still not used to those human/robot gangs and their music in Tatooine.
    Not sure about the operation.

Nice tie with The Mandalorian and Fennec story.

Slave 1 has been one of my favourite ships ever. Was cool to see it again. Its moments on the screen are the best. Maybe alreadt the coolest shots from the show. Not sure if they really changed the name cause Boba names the model. Silly if this is the new one.

Nice to go back to Sarlacc. Although Boba not remembering he escaped with the armour and he was robbed is kinda weird (so, seems a lazy excuse to go to Sarlacc again). Killing Sarlacc with the bomb was cool, not how entered in (yeah, i know i know, we have to be openminded).

At least the episode has some dialogs here and there that give the sensation of explaining something missing or moving forward.

The reunion with the tribes was good.

Glad too see at the end Black Krrsantan ripping off without concern and Boba killing without compassion a bunch of bikers. At least that's something too.

The notes from The Mandalorian soundtrack tell we will see him again here.

By far my favorite episode so far. I love how different everyone looked in the mod shop. I also loved the rat catcher droid. It's a nice conclusion to the backstory and I guess I didn't realize he was in the process of getting healed for good in the tank. So I guess he hasn't been at his best until this point of the story. I knew it would be a challenge to explain Fett's backstory and also tell a coherent story, but after 4 episode I'm all in on this quest to defeat the Pykes. It's also a testament of how great a job they're doing in this timeline when they played the music at the end. This should be a thrilling 3 episode end to the season.

So it wasn't about people winning at gambling...it was more about them being Transdoshans who happened to be winning? That makes sense then.

EDIT: That was not sarcastic. :p

I thought the whole infiltration into the palace and the confrontation with the droids was hilarious. And kind of grisly if you think about it. Two KPs get their throat cut/head cut clean off and the rat catcher droids does himself in at the sound of Boba Fett's name. Jeez!

Three Totally Badass things happened this episode:
    1) Boba being his old ruthless self. Yes, people, mowing down the entire biker gang with his blasters from Slave-1 qualifies. :)
    2) Boba getting revenge on the sarlacc by dropping a Seismic Charge bomb into its mouth. Yikes! Talk about heart burn!!!
    3) A wookie ripping somebody's arm out of its socket. Finally!!! :)

Finally some good spotlight on Fennec!

The action scenes at the palace were awesome and reminded me of the first Star Wars Battlefront game from EA!

Glad the swoop gang were taken out!

More sarlacc! I'm curious why it didn't react like this when Boba busted out though. That bomb sound is always so damn cool!

Really enjoy the Boba and Fennec together!

Black Krrsantan is so f'n badass and cool! Ultimate bar fighter

    Cool dinner scene!

That Din Djarin tease at the end!

So we may see Din Djarin appear and be in action between seasons 2 and 3!? Now I'm curious about the timeline between the end of Mandalorian s2, TBOBF guest appearance and when s3 stars
