I agree that there is something about Disney+ that doesn't feel like true 4K the same way other streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime do.

There's only so many ways you can film a desert planet like Tatooine without getting redundant. That said, one of my favorite SW shots was a Tatooine sunset in Dave Filoni's Gunslinger episode of Mando.

I thought there were a couple really cool cinematic scenes in this episode. The first was the dramatic, early morning shot of Slave-1 as it escaped Bib Fortuna's palace. The second was the scene where we see the biker gang as Slave-1 slowly appears in the sky behind them.

I agree that the music during Fennec's 'mod' operation didn't feel very 'star warsy' to me. But on the whole, Ludwig has created a soundtrack full of new masterpieces. His Boba theme is turning out to be another iconic one that -- like the Mando theme -- keeps growing on you with each episode.

wow........I suppose this is a case of one's expectations going into the show. Personally, I think both Temuera and Ming-Na are embodying their characters and doing a fantastic job.

Not all Star Wars stories have to have the urgency or planet-shattering stakes of ANH (or its clone, TFA) to entertain fans.

Boba Fett fell in the Sarlacc Pit on Tatooine. We also learned at the end of Mando Season 2 that Boba was becoming a crime lord on Tatooine. So anyone bored with Tatooine as the main setting had fair warning before the series started. :)

My gut tells me that this TBoBF rollercoaster has twisted and turned it way to its peak and is now gonna plunge down and blow us all away with a whole bunch of thrills and chills these final three episodes. Knowing these next two are directed by Bryce Dallas Howard and Dave Filoni is all I need to ratchet up my excitement meter. :)

It's not about 4k or not even about Disney+, it's just the show itself. The Hawkeye TV show looked much better for example.

Dune disagrees with you. A filmmaker has to find ways to make something exciting. That's his/her job.

Ludwig only did the main theme of TBOBF, the score itself is by someone else and you can tell IMO.

Temuera is definitely trying his best, but he just isn't Boba to me. Maybe it would be better if he doesn't remove his helmet that often. Even Temuera himself said, Boba is talking too much.

Sure, but if there is no story or urgency why do I need to watch it then? The story is only getting teased.

A good show does this from the very beginning IMO.

I dislike Filoni's style... Didn't Howard make the worst rated episode of Mando? Personally I think her two episodes were okay though.

An ok episode, hope the last 3 are perfect.

Did anyone else notice the original Chewie design in the bar?

I also think we will have seven in the final gang, a proper Kurosawa nod, which means if Mando joins there’s 3 spots left- who are we thinking?

I've heard the same criticism recently on recent Netflix and Amazon Prime shows that looked fine on my TV. To me this seems like a way for someone who doesn't like the content to create an objective reason why. There are certainly story differences compared to Mando that people may or may not like, but it's the same crew producing this series. It looks the same to me.

Was thinking about how to post my thoughts but this hits all my points better than I could have. Yes this episode was the best by far, but whoo boy there was a lot of weaknesses. At least this time there was a semblance of a plot that I could follow that let overlook the execution weaknesses.

Serials are great when they are done well. To this point, TBoBF is easily the most poorly done for my tastes (I’m counting animated shows as well).

Can I suggest that the perceived ack of urgency has something to do with a) Boba not being a clone of Mando which viewers have become accustomed to b) wondering how Fett's crime lord ambitions will turn out isn't as compelling to many as wondering about Baby Yoda's fate.

This argument makes no sense to me. Not every Mando episode had the same quality as well. It always depends on the director and what he's/she's doing with the resources.
A good director can make something look great with low-budget, while a bad director will produce cheap looking content with higher budget.

The same crew doesn't guarantee you the same performance. There is much more to it. Hell, R1 was also from the Mando crew, and this film is one of the best looking of the Disney era.

To me Boba is exactly like Din, and that makes it boring. We've alread seen Boba's character development with Mando. TBOBF is just doing it faster.

    Whom am I referring to?

A man who's wearing a Mandalorian outfit while not being born as Mandalorian. A man who's portrayed as a highly competent and honorable warrior. Someone who is willing to help and save others.

This can refer to Mando but also Boba. And this is my problem. Boba is meant to be a ruthless, self-serving and sometimes comical (at least dark humor) badass.

The archetype of the competent and honorable warrior is meant for Din. I didn't need to see the exact same story only worse in TBOBF.

Just saw this on the social platforms, real interesting in a still picture how this encounter played out. For sarlaac Boba fett was the meal that got away for Boba it was a wasted hope that his armour was still left inside this thing. rip sarlaac 1983-2022

This isn't a movie. A director's job on a TV series is much different than a film. I thought calls that episodes of Mando "looking different" were in the same class. A good bottle episode of Breaking Bad or Community doesn't look different because they'll well made.

Anyway, not much more to add since this completely subjective.
Din hasn't taken over a cartel. He's also much more devoted to being a Mandalorian than Fett. Fett's history is a lot more ruthless than Din's.
It's just the nature of having to tell a backstory. Through four episodes we've basically got 2 episodes of a back story and 2 episodes in the present.

I wonder if it would have worked better just devoting 2 episodes to the backstory first.

For some viewers, I'm sure it would. But for others, deferring gratification, or receiving it in a non-linear fashion works just fine.

Exactly. The directors of an episode of a TV show have a fraction of the time (pre-production, shooting, and post-production) that a director of a feature film has. To even attempt to compare the two speaks to the high-quality we're getting from these SW TV shows.

Exactly. Din and Boba both wear Mandalorian armor and were bounty hunters---and that's where the similarities in their characters begin and end. Other than that, the two men are as different as night and day. Even on the action side, they behave differently: Din is a gunslinger while Boba is a barbarian. Put Boba in Din's shoes and vise versa and you've got two dramatically different SW shows, ones that would have been inferior to the one (Mando) we've gotten and the one we're currently getting (TBoBF).

It's always interesting to learn from the folks who don't like the show why it doesn't work for them. That's cool. Art is subjective; different things work -- or don't work -- for different people.

But after that, efforts to push the same points come off sounding like arguments as to why fans of the show really shouldn't be liking it. All that does is annoy people and create a polarizing climate. Speaking for myself, I want to dive into the GFFA TO ESCAPE all the polarzing crap we see in the real world. :)

Not blown away by this episode, but I've liked it. Again, casual viewers might question why Krrsantan goes against the Trandoshans, well, fans know definitely.
But overall, yes, this episode was solid. I am just getting the Solo vibes from this show a bit, but I will leave my final verdict for after the final episode.
Revenge on Sarlac with Fennec's help, that was fun! And explanation, even though a bit goofy on why Boba needs Bacta tank while he was completely fine in Mandalorian and flashbacks was finally explained.

I just get a bit of a fatigue from Tatooine like with Lothal in Rebels. I hope we get to see more populated galaxy in other shows then, as frankly, we saw more interesting planets in animated shows, prequels and somehow, the sequel trilogy and new shows pander on the formula that made the originals so popular hence all happens on barren and empty worlds, that are scarcely populated.

To add to this, I would love to get some lore info or explanation on Tatooine's development.
Did the planet went through some rennaisance after prequels and during the original trilogy? Because the Mos Espa we see in Boba Fett is vastly different from before, much like the city on Lothal during the show and then in the epilogue afterwards. Mos Eisley was the worse out of the two, the wretched hive of scum and villainy, but I guess Mos Espa was not better. But now in the wider shots, we see the white tall buildings, different setting. Somehow the city gives more cleaner vibes and the modders guys, Madam Garsa's club and even the mayor's office is something I wouldn't expect on the classic Tatooine at all. Everyone is trashing the modders, but hey, something has changed and progressed overall on this planet I think.
Even Mandalorian not that long ago has shown Tatooine is the backwater crap planet, that it always was, worse being only Jakku (which is quite a cheap knock off).

The fact that Boba is willing to experience great physical pain in an attempt to find his armor inside the remains of the Sarlacc does emphasize JUST HOW BADLY he wants it back.

I call it 'The Mando Effect.' :)

The audience was taken from one planet to another in all eight episodes of Season 2.

Boba "not being born as Mandalorion" does not feature as an aspect of this show. Nobody by Mandalorians like Bo Katan cares about that. In-universe or otherwise. T

The focal point of each Star Wars movie, show or series has been someone who is or becomes highly competent. I wouldn't call Boba honoroable yet except in comparison to the scugholes he used to work for and is aiming to usurp.

I'm sure that helping others going to be a mainstay of every future series and main character too. Whether the characters are seemingly willing or reluctant to do so.

If I was to construe it that way. It's only worthwhile if the next Star Wars series focuses on a character who does not wear Mandalorian armour. May be "born Mandalorian". Is not highly competent or honorable. And is not willing to help and save others.

DIn Djaran : Is a foundling. A devoted follower of his religion, so to speak. His whole life he and his covert have been refugees. Individuals like Din reluctantly taking bounty hunter jobs in order for the covert to survive. But otherwise hiding themselves in number. On one job he is haunted by echoes of his own "finding" when he discovers that the bounty is on a child. And he is compelled to kill the droid (Din is traumatised and prejudiced by droids to begin with. Boba has none of that) bounty hunter who is going to kill it (echoing his own past) rather than take it alive. Din suddenly becomes attached to the little one he has brought in for ex Imperials and goes rogue. His flight compels him to gather allies and so on. All for the sake of keeping Grogu safe and away from his would be captors. And latterly for reuniting him with his people. Along the way he's forced to re-evaluate his own dogma and the fact that he has virtually no life or appreciation of the universe except in context of the rigid codes he's been taught. And he's finding out it aint necessarily so.

Boba Fett is a clone of a bounty hunter. Not just any bounty hunter but a Mandalorian. His father is already renegade of sorts as it appears he has not been forced into it. Nevertheless Jango is a highly formidable warrior as one who follows the way of Mandalore becomes. But as we've seen, different sections of Mandalorian culture view each other and their Mandoness with varying criteria. Anyway. Boba has been raised by a bounty hunter as a bounty hunter, in order to grow to become a bounty hunter. And it is following in his father's footsteeps that way which has lead him into the belly of the Sarlacc. Boba has decided that it's time to no longer be a lone wolf and at the mercy of his employers. And in order not to just become the same as his employers, he's offer a mutually beneficial partnership with anyone who is will be useful to his new "tribe". (Perhaps regaining some of the Mandalorian prestige and posture that he and his father were somewhat estranged from is appealing to Boba. Particularly after encountering an honorable man like Din and his collection of allies)

I don't think they are exactly alike. Motivations, aimsand background are completely different.

I'm with Ninja on this. What people like to forget is that with the book of Boba Fett we get a different Boba Fett, the post Sarlacc Boba Fett, and he's pretty much the same honourable warrior as Mando now who doesn't torture and so on.

That's exactly what I meant. The post Sarlacc Boba is not the gunslinger we used to know.

That idea probably originates from the place that Favreau and Filioni most likely wanted to make a Boba Fett show in the first place, take the concept art from mandalorian season 1, in these Mando looks a lot like Boba Fett. So Mandalorian was probably destined to be a show about Boba. But then they most likely dropped that idea because they didn't want to deal with all the history from the prequels that this character has and the easiest way out off it this dilemma was to form the post Sarlacc Boba into Mando. A honourable warrior.

TBOBF should have been more ruthless, a mixture of GOT and Narcos (obviously less violent). Content for adults you may say.
