I am really curious about the level of excitement within the SW fan base for TROS.

Obviously TLJ was VERY divisive (no need to litigate why but I think we can all agree that it was divisive) and I have no clue what the overall vibe of the fans is.

Did TLJ do lasting damage (as the Solo performance may indicate), is there general SW exhaustion (as if that’s really a thing!) or has enough time passed that wounds have healed and we’re just excited to see how this all ends.

I’d love to hear people’s thoughts, both from the pro-TLJ and anti-TLJ crews.

I addition, we’re at about 20,000 comments on the TROS board... do any of the mods know what the comment count was for the other ST films six months prior to release? Some data to see if comment volume is ahead, even or behind the other films at this point would be super interesting.

Me, I was not a fan of TLJ, but enough time has passed, I loved Solo, and this is the end of the Skywalker saga, so I am personally super excited about TROS!

I couldn't possibly be more hyped at this time.

I think when we get a full trailer and the marketing starts, everyone will be excited to get back in the theater for another Star Wars.

Star Wars has survived the Holiday Special, Ewoks, and Gungans. It will survive whatever people didn't like in The Last Jedi too. Fans are passionate about Star Wars, but in the end they want to like it. They will get in the holiday spirit and check it out. It will be a huge event.

TLJ significantly setback my SW excitement.

I'm over it for the most part. One meh movie cannot damper my enthusiasm for the other 7+ at this point.

I have reserved my judgment of TLJ until after IX, which I think most haters should reasonably do. There is a good chance that many of the issues can be resolved with how this one concludes the trilogy.

Im psyched and ready to go!

What has me the most pumped is a quote from JJ (that I am too lazy to look up and quote exactly right now) in which he said he wants people far in the future to watch all nine movies and say...well duh, of course that is how it was supposed to end.

I think this shows how seriously he is taking the responsibility to wrap up not just this trilogy, but the entire saga into one satisfying story.

As a big fan of The Last Jedi (my 2nd favorite SW movie) I am very hyped for TROS.
My only concern its about on how they will fit Palpatine in the story.

I loved TFA and mixed about TLJ, but the movie has grown on me after repeat viewings so I still enjoy the great parts of the movie and accepted the parts I have problems with.

I'm not super hyped for TROS, but my level of excitement is just as high as anyone here (If that makes sense). What I mean is I don't expect TROS to blow me away, as I still feel the ST storytelling is the weak link since they are using many beats from the OT (from a certain point of view). But I still enjoy watching TFA and TLJ for various reasons, so I know I will enjoy TROS.

The ST works for me on the exact opposite level why the PT didn't work for me: The characters. I really like the new characters as Rey, Finn and Poe (even Kylo) all connect with me, where Padme, Anakin and even Obiwan just never resonated with me (although McGregor does a great portrayal of Obiwan). So the PT never connected with me on any level even though it was a great story that Lucas was trying to tell. The ST connects with me on many levels and I care about the characters, even if the story is thin, so I'm in for the ride with Part 3.

So I don't have this giddy excitement I did for previous SW movies because I just don't know what they can do in this Trilogy (after the first 2 movies basically tell the same story as the OT) that can really wow me. But I'm still excited because I'm confident this movie will have the same replay as TFA and TLJ next year for me on BluRay.

My canon is 4,5,6 as the main story and 7,8 as a 'what if' epilogue, and so far all of those movies have great rewatchability. I don't see how Episode 9 will be any different. Am I super hyped? No. Am I excited? Yes.

I am not a fan of TLJ. I waited for Solo to come out on streaming before I watched it and enjoyed it but didn't regret waiting. I was wary of Episode IX before Celebration and was cautiously approaching the future of the franchise until the teaser came out. I am intrigued again and look forward to the film. I am still not nearly as hyped about IX as I was about VII and VIII when they were coming up but I have some hope again.

On another note, I am really really excited about the upcoming Disney+ shows. I am so excited about the Mandalorian and Clone Wars Season 7, and have even come around on Resistance Season 2. It is weird but I am incredibly optimistic about Star Wars in an episodic format but I am a little skeptical about the future of the movie franchise.

Can't wait to be proven wrong by XI and by the future of the film franchise.

I have enjoyed all of the ST so far and I'm equally excited for ROS also. I enjoy to experience. The anticipation working up to the release. The excitement will grow, especially in the fall when we get more trailers, interviews, etc.

Nothing will probably ever beat my amount of excitement and hype which I had for TFA. It was almost exhausting. Especially as soon as I had sat done in the seat before the movie started. I was so, well- scared! Haha!

For TLJ I also was very hyped. Mainly because of RJ (I really liked his previous work) and all the good feedback. But then the movie itself happened and you know the rest.

TROS is a different kind of hype. I'm excited for JJ's return, but so far I'm not as invested. That's not a bad thing IMO. It's a relieving situation you could say. I know I will probably like JJ's little adventure and that's all I care about at the moment.

Ask me this question again in October, November and December. When the marketing train really starts to take off.

like @NinjaRen said, though, i'm kinda exhausted already, so i'll be glad when it's done and can shed all the nail-biting anxiety over the fate of the galaxy. XD

I'm totally stoked for RoS! I loved TLJ and one of the many things it did expertly was clearing the table for a fresh high-note to end the saga with. Killing off all the legacy second & third tier characters, as painful as that is, was a brilliant move that allows RoS to focus on the characters that matter for THIS trilogy, as well as making space for a few new faces to broaden the galaxy, plus make space for Palpatine's (probably small yet crucial) return. (Not to mention, Lando has the space he needs now!) Similarly, reducing the Resistance to two dozen freedom fighters, and loosing Luke, nonetheless, in a sacrifice that reignites hope in the Galaxy, is such a perfect place to leave the good guys for the final trilogy act!

It's gonna be a lot of fun to see the Resistance bounce back from that and take on the bad guys and whatever insane machinations our all time favorite Space Emperor cooked up some 30-odd years ago. (pwned)

The end of the Skywalker Saga is going to be exciting, fresh, and emotional, and I for one find the wait extremely difficult. (r2-d2) <-- me pacing atm.

    Also, <3 Leia <3 (leia)

I quite expect future generations to regard the ST as the best trilogy of the Skywalker Saga. (It isn't of course, 'cause that was clearly the OT, but to future fans with no nostalgic connection to any of the trilogies, I suspect ST will be the favorite). :)

Highly excited, mainly because I want to know how all of that will end.
Kylo couldwin, Rey could win, they could both die, they could merge, they could end their lives fighting... and I have absolutely no idea of what will come onscreen.

I'm...not very excited for TROS. I expect to enjoy it because there hasn't been a movie by JJ I haven't seen that I haven't enjoyed. I expect to enjoy it because I love Star Wars, even if I've been distancing myself from it for a while now and am not sure of how I'll feel about it after TROS. I expect to enjoy it because I enjoyed TFA (which while I adore as a movie, I believe was a terrible idea for a plot going forward) and have complex feelings on TLJ (I really respect RJ and understand what he was aiming for, but I completely disagree with some of his decisions and am frustrated at the cut content).
I try to get excited but then the characters who fans are really excited about (Rey, Kylo, Palpatine, old Lando) are characters I don't care about. I try to get excited about what's coming up with Star Wars and...well...SWC helped some, but not as much as I'd like, looking back.
So overall, I'm going to watch opening night, hopefully surrounded by family and friends whose excitement will make me excited, but as it stands everyone around me is pretty "meh" about the movie right now.

I’m excited for this movie but I’m not at max excitement yet. I suspect my excitement will amp up more as the marketing amps up later this summer and fall

I haven't met a Star Wars fan in real life who isn't excited about seeing this film. Even people I know who didn't like TLJ are going to see it. The whole "divisive" thing is just internet reality. Most people like it. I will say I'm exhausted having to read about how divisive the film is when it's only been proven that's it's a tiny vocal minority.

An IP is damaged when people don't care. The trailer received tons of views. People cheered when I saw the trailer at Endgame.

    Star Wars is fine.

I think SW fans are very excited. The fact that TLJ was so divisive sets up a situation where the people who liked TLJ are looking forward to the next installment, whereas the people who didn't like TLJ are looking forward to getting the bad taste out of their mouths.

My concern is that I am just not seeing terribly much excitement from the casual moviegoer. E9 will do better than Solo but I don't expect it to do better than E8 - which would be quite a departure from how trilogies usually perform financially. I hope JJ gives us a winner and brings back the casuals. We need some forward momentum for the next few years!

I think 6 months out is still a little too early for the casual fan to start getting excited. There are too many other movies between now and December to catch their attention. Once the marketing for The Rise of Skywalker ramps up, so will the casual fan’s excitement. If they push the end of the saga theme like we will expect, many casual viewers will show up to see how it ends.

I'm sorta in the same boat as you. I strongly disliked TLJ but I loved Solo (make Solo 2 happen! :)), but I'm at least interested in how they close out the trilogy and Skywalker Saga as a whole. I won't go as far as saying I'm hyped though, it's more of a curiosity of where they'll take the story and how the whole Saga will end. I'm not really invested in the ST or the new characters (Kylo's interesting though) but I want to finish it out before forming my final opinion on it as a whole. I guess I'd say I'm cautiously hopeful for TROS. One bad movie (imo of course) doesn't ruin a trilogy or franchise, and a really good third act can "save" it. Even though I love all the prequels, RotS saved the PT for some fans after all. I have had my enthusiasm for Star Wars, in general, dampened though. Not only because of my feelings on TLJ, but mostly because of the reaction and fighting within the fandom. I've just now started interacting online with other fans again here recently. I guess I'm also hopeful that the TROS (and the upcoming shows) can somewhat put an end to a lot of the negativity.
