One of my main problems with the prequels was we already knew the outcome right from the beginning, it was unable to pull off my twists and turns in the plot as we all knew who ended up where by the time we got to a new hope.

So as much as I'd like to see a bit more of Yoda in action with a lightsaber, I wouldn't want him as a main character in these new films and I don't think he will be.

I'm not sure how far this goes back in terms of technology, but I'd like to see a less polished and shiny galaxy that we saw in the prequels, maybe not even blasters or weapons as we know from the Skywalker saga at all.

It would give the Jedi an extra aura about them if a lightsaber back then was one of the most advanced weapons around.

Yeah this is how i think it will happen.

The first 4-5 years could be purely to build up the characters and explore all parts of the galaxy. Mid rim , outer rim , core worlds ect ect.

I think the Avengers moment will be an expedition to the Unknown Regions where they will encounter some big bad ( Sith , Other Dark Jedis or some crazy alien race) and by the end of it the bid bad could then be defeated ( Or sealed away).

    Lots to play with.

Revan and Bane are both Old Republic - Bane in particular is 1000 BBY. Revan doesn't have enough canon developed to put a time on it, so they could theoretically do whatever they want.

I would find it interesting if a group of Jedi run across Bane's sarcophagus on Moraband or an equivalent. As the creator of the rule of two, you could have all sorts of fun with how this plays out.

Moraband is in the outer rim and would make a good starting point for travels into the Unknown Regions

I'm really curious about how they'll handle the aesthetics of this time period. On one hand, it shouldn't look much like what we've seen in the existing films, since it takes place so far in the past. On the other hand, it might be risky to stray TOO far from the familiar aesthetic, as they still want it to look like Star Wars. One thing that bugged me about the KOTOR games is that they were supposed to take place thousands of years before the movies, but the aesthetics were essentially the same (and yet, I completely understand why they chose to make it look that way.)
At the very least, we shouldn't be seeing X-wings and TIE fighters again, so that will make a nice change. I hope they really take their time designing the look of these films to make them feel like their own distinct era.

I would expect a sleek look, similar to the prequels. Not the same ships of course, but definitely a similar aesthetic. And definitely no X-wing fighters and no Tie Fighters.

Yeah, I also tend to imagine it having a sleek look, similar to the prequels. But then again, this is going to be set about 400 years before the prequels, so I wonder if maybe it should look more primitive. It will be interesting to see what time periods they use for inspiration. I'm imagining a Roman Renaissane inspiration in SW, for example.

Everything we have seen before from TOR is similar tech to year 1 BBY right? What sort of "primitivity" are you talking about for 400 BBY?

Well, Dough Chiang talked about attributing a decade's art style to certain eras of Star Wars. If I'm remembering the interview correctly, the OT had a 70s aesthetic, so when developing the prequels, it was decided AOTC would have a 50s aesthetic and it would evolve into the 60s aesthetic of ROTS. So, it stands to reason the High Republic will have a 30s or 40s sci-fi aesthetic.

Did the sequels have an 80s aesthetic? Idk *shrug*.

To some extent just about every "era" has borrowed elements of the 1930's/40's sci-fi aesthetic due in large part to George Lucas being heavily inspired by the old Flash Gordon movie serials from that era. However I wouldn't mind something more heavily grounded in that aesthetic, maintaining the smoothness of the prequels whilest feeling a bit more archaic.

This is an issue I've long had with Star Wars: The Old Republic, an issue that I guess doesn't exist anymore now that it's no longer canon material. That said I've always admired/enjoyed the art direction Bioware took with the original Knights of the Old Republic, which did a really good job of presenting familiar places and ideas and presenting them in a manner that felt more "primitive" than the films. That said that criticism remains valid since it's still supposed to be set 3,000 years before the Episodic films. That said, adopting a similar art style works just fine for a setting that's only a few centuries before the films, as everything looks older but never too old, if that makes sense.

I also just really love the cover art for the game.

Given how little is known about the High Republic era, it seems like a good choice. Close enough to be familiar, but far enough away from the Skywalker Saga to allow freedom of storytelling.

I believe it's critical to the future of Star Wars to drastically narrow their scope. Jumping between time periods like they have been under Disney is very confusing to general audiences. Eventually people will be so lost, they will just give up on the whole thing.

Once Obi-Wan and Cassian are finished, I would limit on screen Star Wars stories to just two timelines - the one that kicked off with the Mandolorian, and the High Republic. There is way too much material being produced between the movies and D+ shows to follow a single group of core characters, so they need another way to focus the narrative. And uniting stories by era makes the most sense.

Is there anything in canon that describes how the Jedi learned about the chosen one prophecy? Did it exist before the high republic era? Was it discovered during period?

Read the Rise of Kylo Ren, Charles Soule mentions the High Republic in that series and it's a good read.

According to Wookiepedia, quoting Claudia Gray's Master and Apprentice as a source, the Chosen One prophesy was "foretold in a Jedi prophecy, made by an ancient Jedi mystic and recorded via holocron".

It says nothing about the when & how & where & why so my bet is that Gray's plot arcs for Project Luminous will cover the discovery of the prophecy in some way or other. Now, since 400 years old is considered "ancient" in America :p I guess it is possible that the prophecy will be created during the show, but I think it is more likely that one of the protagonists will come across said holocron during the PL run.

It's possible that the prophecy is older than the discovery. If the Jedi in the high republic era explore new regions it's possible an ancient holocron is found. My personal preference is that this isn't a story device. Just leave these stories disconnect from the saga films.

It would be great if the Jedi Temple on Coruscant could be developed more. That would a nice addition to Galaxy Edge. My biggest gripe with the ST is no Coruscant. The temple is such a big part of the PT and I'm generally curious what happened to the temple after RotJ.

Agreed. There is nothing remotely compelling to me in learning how the Jedi first heard the prophesy. I don't need any more Star Wars stories that expand upon minor details from the Skywalker Saga films. If that's what some fans want, I hope they get a novel that delves into it - but I'm ready for new characters and new stories that don't tie into the story-lines from Episodes 1-9 at all.

The main fear I have is one y'all already stated - that the timeline is too close to the Skywalker movies to look aesthetically different. Maybe some places did, but I'm not sure enough will. I wish they went further back, but I also wish they could hire Ryan Coogler to direct the film regardless of how far back they go, but that's just me.

I'm kind of on the other side of the coin- I'm afraid it'll look too different and not feel like Star Wars at all.

Look at how different the Phantom Menace looked, or even how Resistance feels like some sort of F-Zero spinoff.

I like the idea of getting really original stuff, but this is the first time I know of in canon that we're getting a good look at anything even fifty years outside of the Skywalker Saga, and it could potentially be pretty jarring. After all, I don't think we're beholden to KOTOR's aesthetics being canon anymore, so that era could look drastically different than it used to.

I liked how different TPM looked, but I understand your point and the reason behind this comparison.

Ha! True. Although for Resistance, I think it's the time-frame more than anything. I can believe these ships are more colorful and warm; but putting them in the spotlight right when the galaxy is about to go to war (and then IS at war) is what I think creates the dissonance.

That's fair, and yeah we don't need KOTOR's aesthetics anymore. But I like the idea of eras feeling different. Looking at pictures of New York or San Francisco from eras past is fascinating because of all the change that's occurred. Sometimes it's enlightening and heartening, other times the opposite. But the change is there to see and contemplate on. That's one of my main complaints with the ST (although I think for the most part it's handled pretty well). And that's also one of my fears going forward. The backlash against the PT for the change in style is part of the reason the ST looks so similar to the OT. And if they want to root fans in "this is Star Wars," I don't see Lucasfilm going out of their way to change that.

Many want "something different". Ok......NO SITH.

But a big rumor I hear is that this "Project Luminous" will be a knockoff of the MCU. Basically different Jedi with different Force abilities.

This simply put is going after the Asian Market again. The only way an SW film will make $ in Asia is if they do an Asian Edit. Call the Jedi something cheesy like Zone Rangers & CGI replace the lightsabers with flame swords. Cut out all clips with Yoda.
