So what we have here is a willingness by the audience to invent or assume backstories and obstacles to excuse the amount of time it took Luke to arrive (right in time for Din and pals to have already killed anyone who isn't a droid).

I'm not looking to start a fight but in light of all the superlatives that have been thrown at the Mandalorian and how it "correctly" depicted Luke, I think it's appropriate to apply the same standards that condemned his depiction in The Last Jedi.

Nothing is being invented. It’s just the facts of what’s presented. We know what TLJ Luke was doing prior to his hero moment. With Mando Luke, we don’t. There’s a million and one reasons why action figure Luke, complete with kung-fu grip, showed up precisely when the plot needed him to.
Maybe I have it wrong, but I thought the criticisms lobbed at TLJ Luke were about character presentation and not base logistics. Luke, in ‘The Rescue’, isn’t even really a character. He’s a deux ex machina. He’s a plot device. I imagine that if all Luke did in TLJ was show up at the end to save everyone’s ass and then f**k right off back to wherever he came from, plenty of folks would have said that was amazing too.

But the supposed discrepancy in Mandalorian is automatically excused using the possible logistics of getting from where he was when he received the call and arriving at Gideon's cruiser.

And yes the complaints where that they presented a character who was too slow to go help his friends. (although he's about a week faster in TLJ than the perfect Luke in Mandalorian is...)

I love the fact Luke made an appearance in The Mandalorian as did many others. I personally don’t think of where he was before or how he got there on time because he is a Jedi and a strong communication from Grogu would have been enough for him to guide home self to The Child’s presence.

I’m just not understanding what “discrepancy” you’re referring to though. We have zero context for the pace of Luke’s arrival. He could have sloppily gulped some expired milk down and been suffering with explosive diarrhea for all we know. It could be practically anything, man.
The speed of his response in TLJ was entirely predicated on character motivation. He had to overcome his personal limitations and purposefully decide whether or not to go. Maybe it was similar for Mando Luke. Maybe he was waiting for his sassy black tunic to get dry cleaned. Maybe he had to file his space taxes. Maybe he was struggling with his sexual identity. We don’t know. And we don’t know because it doesn’t matter to the story. He was only there to fulfill a specific function and he did.

My experience of the complaints surrounding Luke in TLJ was that, fundamentally, it was wrong to contrive any scenario where he was detained from promptly attending to whatever needs the characters had for him. (as well as all the specious arguments for why the circumstances given were somehow unacceptable as character motivation)

I'm just saying that it's surprising, at least to me, that the relative time it took for him to attend to Grogu isn't spontaneously prompting any soul searching as to the reasons why.

But didn't Luke spend years on Achto avoiding that role of savior? Wouldn't that time count too?

Either way, TLJ did a decent job explaining pissy Luke's headspace. If anyone was unclear about why he doddled, then I reckon they didn't pay close enough attention or simply didn't like what they were told. No reason to make it a 'this' versus 'that' debate.

Yeah but that was already established in TFA and there wasn't the same forelock tugging about him "walking away" and being out of the game then.

Since her introduction on Tatooine, I've really enjoyed the character of Fennec Shand. Really glad to see how things turned out for her and that she has both a past that will be explored with Bad Batch, and a future with the Book of Boba.

Anyways, my kids were watching a video on different animals, and they came to a fox that was called a "fennec." Didn't know that was a thing until now! Native to sandy desolate areas, particularly the Sahara and Northern Africa.

The name allusions are obvious, but I also love this guy's little ears (don't knock them - he can hear critters moving underground with those things! ) .... and I'm pretty sure those automatically qualify him as a distant relative of Grogu, but I am awaiting confirmation of that last bit.

    Happy Fennec Friday everyone!
    :D

I watch allot of nature shows so I automatically got the connection way back with episode 5 when she was introduced. BTW episode 5 is my favorite from season 1, still don't understand why so many don't like that episode the Gunslinger.
