All art is subjective so there is no 'right or wrong' when to comes to what a fan likes -- or doesn't like.

However, there is nothing speculative about the fan response to TLJ and TROS. Financially, they were huge disappointments -- and the follow-up response from Disney and LucasFilm acknowledges that. The planned yearly release of a Star Wars film was tanked, the crowds for the theme park attractions geared to the ST have been a huge disappointment, and the Blu-Ray sales of the last two films were horrible for a Star Wars franchise.

One of the reasons why The Mandalorian S2:E8 resonated with SO MANY fans is because Luke Skywalker was portrayed the way fans had expected in TLJ -- and didn't get.

Define “SO MANY”......unless you have a pretty comprehensive poll that statement is pure speculation.

Good point. I guess it's a mystery why the finale of Mandalorian Season 2 was the top-rated show on TV according to the Nielsen Ratings.

Is that quantitative enough for you?

Again, for the 5,647th time here on the Cantina.

You can like something, or hate something.

    As can I.

Pounding your chest and attempting to put numbers or percentages to the size of the audience that “agrees” with you, is pure speculation.

I just got back from DisneyWorld 2 days ago, and can provide quantitative proof you are wrong. For the attraction “Rise of the Resistance” in Galaxy’s Edge they use a “virtual queue”. Twice a day you have a chance to get on the ride. The slots fill up for the ride in SECONDS after the queue is opened virtually. I was just there. This is the only ride at DW right now using a virtual queue, because the lines would be hours long without it.

Two things: 1) I'm a board newbie; and 2) in the post of mine that you initially responded to, I clearly pointed out that "art is subjective so there is no 'right or wrong' when to comes to what a fan likes -- or doesn't like."
There are obvious signs how the fandom has responded to the PTs in contrast to The Mandalorian. If you choose to ignore them, that's fine. But the evidence is far from 'speculation.'

This is not meant to dampen your love of TLJ, if that happens to be the case. So you shouldn't feel threatened by the numbers that exist out there. My point is simply that fans loved Luke's return in S2:E8 and the numbers back me up.

why must you point this out? What is the point?

This is a Star Wars discussion board. It's kind of the thing that fans do here.
Watch any of the fan reaction Youtube videos highlighting Luke's appearance. I've never witnessed so many fans become so emotional over the dramatic reappearance of a beloved character. I think that's a magical moment worth pointing out.

And right or wrong, the most common reaction you heard from tearful fans as Luke plowed his way through the Dark Troopers was: "Now THIS is the Luke I had hoped to see in TLJ."

If you disagree, cool, no one is asking you to change your opinion. But LucasFilm didn't produce the No.1 show on TV that week if the Luke Skywalker episode hadn't resonated with fans.

I am glad that we didn't know Yoda before TESB came out. Otherwise everyone would have hated him and would have only wanted to see the same lightsaber-wielding whirling dervish from the prequels.

The simple fact that he rejects Luke as a trainee despite having vowed to remain in exile until "the time was right" [to train Luke] would surely have been considered the most divisive thing to have ever happened.

Although to be honest I doubt Yoda would ever have achieved anything like the popularity he did if the movies we know had been made and released in episode order.

Yes but in the last episode that man was somewhat upstaged by the appearance of a certain well known character. (green):D

Disney+ just announced that on August 25, they'll release a new Mandalorian Gallery episode devoted to Luke Skywalker's surprise cameo at the end of Season 2. Reportedly it will include an interview with Mark Hamill, the de-aging tech used, and how Favreau and Company were able to keep it a secret for a year before the episode aired.

Finally! Thanks for the info. Still not sure why it was not discussed in the earlier Gallery episode.

Probably to prevent spoilers from getting out about it, as then the people editing the Disney Gallery series would have known the secret in addition to the Mando crew. I don’t know why it’s taken them eight months to get something like this out, especially with how dry May the 4th was this year, but I’m glad it’s happening.

I know, but it would have still been in the editing process before Chapter 16 came out hence why they didn’t show anything with Luke and the finale in that Gallery episode. There was only a week between those two episodes.
