SPECULATION The Rise of Skywalker & Completing the SAGA:

Well I have a sneaky feeling Anakin will make an appearance in some form or another.

 

My will to see Anakin in TROS: Zero.

 

Let me put it this way: I'll be disappointed, but not surprised. I'll be flabbergasted, jumping for joy if he shows up. This will be me internally in the theater:

 

While I like the story the PT told, I never cared for Anakin. I don’t know if it was the casting of Hayden, or the way the character was written, or the execution by Lucas. But it is the main reason the PT never connected with me. I honestly don’t want Hayden to appear in TROS, as that is the one dealbreaker for me on this movie.

 

I think the saga will feel complete without Anakin in it. I suspect his legacy will be involved and if so that will work.

 

IMO Anakin Skywalker has to appear to Kylo Ren in a key moment. Or another idea I always liked: Kylo gets haunted by Anakin, but only in form of imagery, someting like the unused concept art of TFA:

 

Same here! The Saga wouldn't feel complete with having Anakin not making an appearance.

 

I think I'll be a bit disappointed if Anakin doesn't make a Force Ghost appearance. On the other hand, if it is done well, maybe it won't be missed.

 

Would you be satisfied with a non speaking force ghost at the end of the movie or would you want him to do something

 

Ideally, I'd like him to impart some words of wisdom that are meaningful to Ben's story arc. I think that would be preferable to a simple appearance like at the end of ROTJ. It would be strange for him to show up as a mute visitor given that the ST now seems to be driven by Palpatine, and it was Anakin that allowed him to rise to power with his de-arming of Mace Windu.

 

Although I would love to see Anakin in any form again, I understand that it is easier to see Palpatine in flesh, rather than him.

About the "completing the saga" thing, I am pretty sure that a decade from now they will make episodes with Rey, Ben, Finn and Poe, I mean those who survive TROS.

Technically, it will not be the Skywalker saga, but I believe we will see Ep. X, XI, XII...

 

While I feel like Anakin’s story needs to feel like it has some sort of impact on this film to tie everything together, I don’t know that I need to see Anakin for that to happen. I’ve seen an overwhelming majority of people who want Anakin to appear in The Rise of Skywalker, but unless it’s done right, I don’t think it’s necessary.

I also feel like it would inevitably open up a whole can of worms with his Force ghost appearance again –– should he look like he did in Revenge of the Sith or like he did when he died? Enough people are already dissatisfied with how they edited that in the special editions. I don’t think we need to revisit that. Perhaps they can incorporate him into the film through Vader (that way they can avoid the issue of his appearance as a Force ghost altogether).

Personally, I won’t necessarily be disappointed because I do think this whole saga is largely his story, but I don’t need to see him in this film for it to feel satisfying. I think Palpatine’s presence feels a bit more justified than Anakin’s anyway, so... I’m really open to anything. But I’d much rather see an appearance from someone like Obi-Wan in this film than I would Anakin.

 

I’m not sure how you can have Palpetine but not Anakin. The saga is supposed to be Anakin’s story. If Palpy is back then Anakin didn’t succeed in ROTJ. So, for me, if Palpetine is back, I want Anakin to play a part in his final defeat.

I understand that the whole Hayden Christiansen/PT thing is opening up a can of worms but I think it can be done well. Even if Anakin is there more for guidance/inspiration/motivation vs a direct confrontation, I’d be good with that too.

 

Palpatine has always had his motives, though, Anakin was just the one to help him carry them out –– and ultimately, thwart them. Palpatine has always been the mastermind behind everything, so his presence seems justified. Anakin’s is, too, but I really don’t know how they’d be able to pull it off. I’m not going to be disappointed if he’s in the film –– in fact, I actually liked Hayden in the prequels –– but I feel like they’re limited in how they can include him and successfully pull it off. It would be much easier for them to do something with Yoda/Obi-Wan/Luke as a Force ghost than it would be to do something with Anakin because his whole becoming a Force ghost is largely unexplained in the canon. I think he should have some sort of role in the film, but I’m very apprehensive about it because even though I trust J.J. and Lucasfilm entirely, I just feel like this is a very tricky area that they can either nail or completely screw up.

 

Ideally I would like Anakin to make a cameo with Luke, a bit like Obi-wan speaking to Yoda in ESB, but actually showing the two force-spirits. It does seem at odds that although Anakin redeemed himself and was able to appear as a force ghost without training at the end of RotJ, his only appearance in the ST has been the charred remains of his helmet.

 

It would make a lot of sense in some ways if Rey was revealed to be the reincarnated spirit of Anakin.

- It would explain why no Anakin Force ghost so far
- It could help explain why her parents are not all that important
- It would help convince Kylo to turn back to the light and that he was deceived by Snoke
- It would tie up the saga as featuring Anakin/Vader/Rey in every episode
- It would make Rey a Father, Son and Daughter
- The mirror cave scene in TLJ could have been representing the chosen one being reborn again and again

I used to not be keen on the idea, but I think it’s one that has some merit now. I’m not saying I think it’s definitely the case, just that there are numerous dangling threads in the ST that could be solved/explained by this one thing.

 

Don’t forget Holy Ghost! He was a force ghost in ROTJ after all!

 

I’d like to see Vader pulled into the Future prior to his return to the light. Cause a tear in the Force where Vader lives and Anakin lives as Force Ghost.

They should bring back Bail Organa to bury Leia. Perhaps Bail was not on Alderan that day.
