I hope so, but in at this time period they would be either beginning their journey to the galaxy or still fighting amongst themselves.

Pretty sure this is just referring to the Nihil.

Here's a handy link with all you need to know.

They're basically a bunch of space vikings, and are described as being the primary antagonist group for the High Republic stories.

If the Vong ever come to fruition in the current continuity, I reckon they'll be much closer to the goings on in the Unknown Regions around the time of Thrawn's career and the height of the Empire at the earliest and are absolutely something that we could possibly see in the upcoming Thrawn books, Timothy Zahn willing.

Ditto mate. Yuuzhang Vong sounds like an Asian boy band to me.

I've often wondered about this as well. Presuming that some of the scuttlebutt about KotOR 1 & 2 being retroactively added back to canon, albeit altered in some aspects to better fit it, one could then assume that any connection to Nihilus (who was a literal wound in the Force) would very much fit the description of a "threat to the Force itself".

This, however, is perhaps getting too much into tinfoil hat territory, and is assuming what the Story Group's plans are based on hearsay. So take this with a healthy dose of salt.

How are the Nihil a “threat to the force?” Darth Nihilus was but that is legends. What have the Nihil done to the force? And separately what could be happening now that threatens THE FORCE itself? I don’t think it’s the sith. Even if the sith were in charge they would talk about “access to” and “the power of” the force. The Vong were known for being “forceless” jedi can’t sense them. So maybe not the YV but again, what threatens the force itself?

Don't know, I imagine we'll know more once these books finally release. That said, we do know that they're the main antagonist, so I'd say the odds of them being connected in some way are very high.

It will probably be a new threat, a new thing in Star Wars, rather than simply a recycling of previous baddies in a new era. Authors like to create new content :)

I liked the Vong myself, but this isn't them. Plus 2000 years? The "High Republic" is said to take place 200 years prior to the events of the ST-OT. Give or take. Unless I'm mistaken.

Why can't we ever have classic Sith vs. Jedi as we've seen in the Old Republic game videos that were awesome!

I'm with you on this. Personally this is one reason I'm not all that excited by the High Republic. There are other reasons, but this is part of it. I want to see them explore the Sith vs. Jedi more. Explore the various "religions" that worshipped the force (such as the Guardians of the Whills) that were hinted at in Rogue One and The Force Awakens. Sadly we aren't getting that, and I'm not sure we will.

I don't think they're gonna do the Vong. I'm a big New Jedi Order fan but I just don't see them leaning that heavily on such a controversial part of canon.

I do, however, think that there's something bigger and darker here than just "space vikings," as the Nihil have been described. "Space vikings" just isn't a compelling villain for a whole series like this.

I hope not. I am aware of the Vong through just having acquired the NJ books. The premise is interesting, but it just comes across like something cribbed from a Star Trek episode, the Klingons or Romulans invading Galactic space. It also comes across as a re-tread of every early 80's drama of the Soviets invading the US. I honestly would rather have something much fresher. If they don't want to stick with the Jedi and the Sith going at it--or at least in the main story. There must be other antagonists that can be used.

As someone who thinks that the KOTOR cut scenes are a work of art :). I am afraid that this new reboot of the HR just won't do. it's like being served fatty hamburger after tasting well marinated sirloin steak. KOTOR what SW should be about Shakespeare meets Dune. A little depth and sophistication would be welcome.

Concerning the Nyles, I’m still unsure how these space pirates can be a threat to the jedi and the Force itself. If I was a jedi, these guys would seem like a cinch.

I pray they don't bring back the vong. It was the storyline that got me to drop star wars until the Disney cannon wipe. I really think they can come up with better ideas.
