HUMOR The force will awaken in C3PO

The odds that the force will awaken in C3PO is, well, you know...

But stranger things have happened. I'd like to go a different route. 3PO will become supreme leader.

 

Can't wait to see that. I hope he has learnt the lesson, since he ascended the throne in the Ewoks village, and showed he wasn't very comfortable with this kind of position

 

Yeah, strangely. 3PO’s gaze visibly tracks fake Luke’s movement, looks straight at this mirage, and says “Master Luke” while nodding at him. Then Luke winks back. Hard to misinterpret. This artificial being, in some way, can sense the Force. Wonky.

 

Maybe he senses his presence more than seeing him... Interesting nonetheless.

 

I swear I’m not interested in reading too much into it, buuuuuuuut - I’m going to anyways!

In TPM, when it was relevant to the plot to precisely gauge the ‘level’ of Force someone possessed, they didn’t actually measure 'the Force' directly. Instead, they tested for the prominence of a microorganism that merely ‘indicated’ the presence of the Force. The only reason I can rationalize you bothering to do that is if the Force, as a substance, is something that can’t be detected with a scientific instrument. You can only infer its existence based on corroborative data – making it more a matter of faith rather than empirical certainty.

But, here we have it. C3PO, a computer, detecting the Force. That’s evidentially canon now. Based on that, they should be able to construct ‘Force detectors’ and actively scan for it. So, now we have a couple natural questions. 1) Why weren’t those who could have benefited from this doing it all along? And 2) If it’s only 3PO that can do it, what makes him so special?

I don’t actually expect this to ever be addressed again of course. Just saw an opportunity to point it out because . . . nerd

 

I see it more simply than that. Maybe 3PO, as the AI that he is (a very much on the spectrum AI) can react to Luke’s mirage because he hears him and because he feeds of the reaction to this reflection from the others present? :b

Or perhaps the midichlodians are indeed back in town and we’ll have Rey and Kylo taking force samples and flicking out their microscopes

 

Yeah, I seriously doubt anything significant was meant by it other than an opportunity for these two characters to have a last exchange (they are brothers after all ). The logic just doesn’t quiet add up though, but meh, Star Wars

Maybe Anakin pricked his finger during construction when working on 3PO's internal gearwork. The midi-chlorians in those drops of Anakin's blood got into 3PO's circuitry, lubricating fluids, gears, etc.

In Episode 6, C-3PO levitates his own throne to frighten the ewoks. Then, to humor Luke, he acted like it was Luke who was doing it.

 

I'll wade in. I guess it's possible the projection could be viewed by anyone, it was really there, just like a hologram. Therefor 3P0 saw Luke's shape, and heard his voice, both attributes with which he was familiar with. I don't know if 3P0's sensors detect heat (or even if the projection came with heat), but even if they do, he knows Luke is Jedi and may simply not be overly surprised by their feats.

Honestly, I think RJ didn't think too hard on that scene. He simply wanted interaction between the two. It seems consistent with art over craft approach he has. I think with RJ, he does what he wants without much thought of the craft or explanation. He expected fans to explain things afterward with their own head canon. These kinds of "mistakes" are pretty common in SW after all and fans have almost always come to the rescue.

I myself don't like it. I prefer seeing the writers doing that work more often then not and when they do miss something, then let the fans step in and devise an explanation. Obviously other fans have no issue with RJ's method, others do. I think it's part of the divide we have right now. I guess the question we can ask is how much is asking too much from fans? I think the answer to that is subjective.
