The Clone War and the Civil War would have fundamentally changed the systems and peoples who eventually fought to restore the Senate. Before the Clone War, the Republic had no armies of note and no conflicts, then they had clones, not Republic citizens, fighting for them against droids. But then in the Civil War, the people from the rebel systems had to become warriors themselves.

It would take at least a decade for those societies to return to anywhere near their pre imperial states. For some it possibly would never have returned to the way things were. And some would have changed into something different from either their pre-Imperial and their civil war states. The idea that victory at Endor was essentially a big reset button back to the Valorum days, or that everything was simply rectified in one stroke, is one of the biggest misconceptions there is in the fandom, I think.

I would love to see live action take on the depiction of the early Imperial days and how some systems transitioned from loyal to rebellious in the midst of the Empire's tightening grip on life in the GFFA. And also those systems which went along with and supported the regime. I think if fans got a look at that it might help some of them get their heads around the apparent lack of progress made after Endor/Jakku.

 

The Bad Batch depicted the idea of systems, especially former CIS systems did not like the totalitarian Empire. Even former Republic systems like Ryloth had a Nationalist mentality.

"The more you tighten your grip Tarkin, the more systems will slip through your fingers". The more Totalitarian the Empire became, the more systems started to rebel. However later on in the Rebels series these rebel cell groups realized they had to unite, if they wanted to defeat the Empire. So maybe that's a reason they formed the New Republic? Of course the New Republic was weak, with no real standing army, that's why the Resistance formed when the FO was getting out of control.

 

It would be great to see that in live action. And to see how some members of the Senate bought into the Empire but who had once been very much the same as the ones who would later rebel.

 

The animated series can be childish at times but overall the stories are good and expands the star wars universe. I don't mind animation, they can do a lot more with animation than live action. Live action show about galactic politics, whould basically be star wars c-span.

 

You can show ordinary and not so ordinary people's daily lives and struggles with the shifting political/ideological landscape as the backdrop (but one which affects the characters) without the show being about the politics.

In a small way that's what The Mandalorian does. And what the prequels tried to do but got hung up on it for long periods.

 

Cassian Andor grew up a Separatist, so it would be interesting to see some flashbacks of former Separatists fighting against the Empire in Andor.

I believe that Bail Organa and Mon Mothma will show up in that show too so maybe then we might get to see more of the Senate turning against the Empire.

 

That would be great. The prequels give you the impression that the separatists were just some shifty looking and greedy alien species and/or their droid armies.

 

There were a few episodes between The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch that showed a more nuanced, human view of the Separatists. Unfortunately, those episodes were far and few between. Andor could be a good opportunity to really shift people’s perspective on that faction.

I believe the Aftermath books make reference to a New Separatist Union following the Battle of Endor and during the final months of the Empire. That would be really cool to explore at some point as well. It’d be really interesting to see a group of people who vehemently disagreed with the Republic, the Empire and now the New Republic as well.

 

And what's interesting to me is that TCW makes Dooku seem more evil as opposed to how purportedly nuanced people see him based on AOTC & ROTS alone.
