    We all know about Jar Jar and Threepio and how comedic they appear in the prequel trilogy. There is hate and support for it, but, to be honest, mostly hate. Not many enjoy the SW Prequel comedy. TBH, I do not. What do you think? Well, for one, we can all agree that the OT has the best comedy!

    Still, the prequels are indeed a good trilogy. The comedy does indeed make it stupid, but not bad!

    I'm trying to remember most of the comics scenes from the prequels, but the las time I saw these movies were years ago. So if you people can help me to remember. I voted neutral because of my lack of memory. But there are some scenes that I can mention:

    - I don't think the comic relief from Jar Jar is bad or not funny, it works most of the times specially for the kids. One scene that I think it was too much was during the conversation in Annie's house when Jar Jar tries to pick some fruit with his tongue and Qui Gon just grabbed it;

    - The Factory scene with CGI's C3P0 looks awful and not funny at all;

    - R2 D2 vs. Some droids in the beginning of ROTS looks awful, also. (I am not sure if this was supose to be funny).

    - Most of the "funny" lines saying by Anakin (from AOTC and ROTS) doesn't work for me. Problem of the script or Hayden? I dont know, maybe both.

    A problem with the character of Anakin Skywalker in general. But I know that we can't blame just him or Jake Lloyd. The script, the story, the lines, the director. All of that have a participation in what I consider the most weak character in the SW saga. And Anakin was supose to be the most important character of the saga (alongside Luke).

    The big problem with the PT comedy in general: the tone, the style. The fact that it didn't match the OT. It felt too much like a Pixar-animated movie. That doesn't ad to the realism the OT had. When Jar Jar is hanging on a Trade Federation cannon and being clumsy with a boomer, or when the rolling boomers make those funny noises, you just don't have the feeling you're in the same universe. The same goes for the C3PO head-trick in the droid factory.
    The thing I dislike the most about TLJ (though I'm not someone who puts that movie at the bottom of my list) is the fact that the same kind of humor returns (belching casino alien, rock falling on Caretakers wheelbarrow). It seems like Rian Johnson indeed tried to atone a bit to the Prequels too.
    I do like some one-liners in the PT.

    But one thing is for sure: no one will ever forget JAR JAR. In fact, he is one of the most developed characters of the SW Galaxy!

    The prequel's comedy is unique to say the least.

    There is plenty of good comedic moments and one-liners. As @Olivia Kenobi said, most of them are because of Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan. He's always got a smartass retort or quip to utter. The most memorable being remarks like: "you were right about one thing master, the negotaitions were short" and "so uncivilised". Also, there's a number of unintentionally funny moments such as Dexter Jettster's character, who's just so outlandish, he instantly becomes memorable.

    Then you have the mixed bag elements, such as the battle droids and Jar Jar. Their humour works for the most part, but other times it just becomes too obnoxious and takes you out of the moment. Common examples would be a shot of the droids just to have them say their signature "roger roger" line when necessary, and an Eopie farting in Jar Jar's face. R2 and C3P0's humour works for the most part too, but then you have rock bottom moments like B1-P0. But funnily enough, even the worst attempts at humour in the PT still make me laugh. Not because they're genuinely funny, but because it's so cheesy, you can't help but laugh at the sheer absurdity of it.
    I actually have to completely disagree with you on this. I felt it was one of Jar Jar's better comedic moments, and it helped show that while Qui-Gon finds value in everyone, even he has his limits. In fact I'd say the best Jar Jar moments are when his ridiculousness is acknowledged by others. Like when the astromech droids knock him out the way, and when Qui-Gon tries to calm Jar Jar with the force but causes him to pass out. "You overdid it" :D.

    And lastly, we have the jokes that fall completely flat. I wish I could give examples, but I always forget about them unless I've rewatched the films recently.

    That's the reason this forum is important to us fans of Star Wars, there's always a different point of view. This is good because helps you out to change your mind concerning some scenes that were always not very appreciated.

    I've always thought that the dynamic between Anakin and Obi-Wan in the prequels was great. They always had a comradery that wasn't really shown with other Jedi and it really helped cement their relationship and build up to the final showdown on Mustafar.
    I had no idea the Geonosis factory scene was meant to be funny...aside from the fact that it looks awful but I doubt thats intentional. Jar Jar is...Jar Jar. They kind of failed in showing that Jar Jar is not meant to be like the other Gungans, making the Gungans 'funny comic relief species' which made it hard to take them seriously in the Battle of Naboo.

    it can take me out of it a tiny bit sometimes but it fits with the over all vibe of the PT...it is not like there is comedy in the most inappropriate sections of the movies or anything like that...you could say that jar jar's whole battle on Naboo in TPM could qualify but it fits with his over all style of his character.

    Yes, Jar Jar has this comedic style. He sloops around, he has a funny gait, and his dialogue and his speech is comedic as well. So yeah, I agree with you.

    My takeaway with Jar Jar is also physical comedy in line with legends such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Charles & Hardy.
