What languages do you speak?

I speak English and I am learning spanish at the moment. My intention for Spanish is to become semi-fluent in the next few years!

Other than English? Some French and Spanish.

Oh and quite a bit of Welsh, but I've forgotten most of it.

 

Fluently, only really English (and hey, maybe that's even a stretch ).

I know enough Spanish to get by, and have an extremely limited vocabulary in Japanese and Ancient Greek (but honestly, to say that I "speak" any of them would be grossly overgenerous).

 

Norwegian is my first language, which means I also speak Danish & Swedish (or rather, the three languages are so similar that we can speak to one another in our mother tongues with around 95% understanding).

I am also fluent in English, prefering (unlike most of my friends) American English to British English in my writing, but I do muddle it up quite a bit. (Shetland English is basically Scottish English with a lot of Norwegian words, so that's pretty interesting for me to hear).

With enough time, patience, and brain power, I can sort of analyse myself through Islandic (which is basically 1000 years old Norwegian) or German (which has the same roots as Norwegian) sentences, but I couldn't get by on it in a conversation.

And, I used to speak (or rather, read) a smattering of Ancient Egyptian and also some Biblical Hebrew, but that's pretty much gone now.

Finally, I am also slightly dyslexic, which doesn't help with languages, but I do love them so very much. Had I been better at it, I would study a ton of languages, but it is really too hard for me and the stuff doesn't stick. My gf however, is one of those people who loves to read grammar in bed and she doesn't regard languages without a grammatical case system, like Norwegian or English, as real languages... They're all just stupid pigin tongues to her

 

My native language is Russian. I also speak fluent English, some basic German, Japanese and my home country's official language. If I find time (and will power) to remember my Korean, than I could add that as well.
I learned English most of my life, from school and video games to tutors and watching tv shows. I studied German quite a lot and Japanese is the language I am studying now.

 

English is the only language I can speak with any degree of confidence. Had this been 5-10 years ago I would've said Italian as well but I've since lost most of that.

Third Language:
English.
Fourth Language:
French.

 

Two of them comes "free" with Norwegian, and English is the only non-native tongue I really know. The rest is only for bragging rights

German I speak pretty well. English not as good, French even less and only some words of Hebrew.

Just wow... just wow... I've been studying Spanish for five years and can't even get by in the simplest of conversations... no more words...
