Oh no, I loved the mask! It defined Kylo’s character as a fake, a Vader copycat, an importer. It was a great way to introduce his character, because it brought back that irrational fear Vader inspired. It is relevant that it is Rey who “unmasks” him during the interrogation Scene in TFA. She is the one who brings the vulnerable, incomplete villain he really is. It is true that casting that mask aside in TLJ symbolises growth for Kylo (and also it gives us an opportunity to enjoy Adam Driver’s nuanced acting).

A return to the mask as a way maybe to bond and integrate with the masked Knights of Ren at the onset of episode 9 could be the perfect excuse to see the cool mask return again, even if it is for the first few minutes of the film.

Its why I hated it. I don't want Vader 2.0. Because we already had a Vader. I'd rather have a new villain then a copycat wannabe.

Yes, but Kylo’s Vader “hang up” gives his character a background, sets him firmly in the saga as strongly related to the past, and makes him much more interesting with regards to his evolution in the future. I think that presenting him with that mask in ep 7 was a good creative choice.

I loved the choice of giving Kylo the mask in the beginning and then destroying it in Episode 8. That's called character progression. He said in TLJ that he wants to
create a whole new order. I assume this means he wants to move away from the Vader obsession and do his own thing. But maybe he'll revert back to the mask in 9 when he realizes his new order isn't working for him.

I agree. The mask was symbolic of Kylo’s progression. In TFA he was a pawn of Snoke’s and wanting to be just like Vader. In TLJ he destroys the mask and in the final throne room scene Sheds his former self refuses to bow down to Snoke and takes control for himself. At this point he does not need a mask

Agreed. It makes sense in light of what Han told him in TFA. Snoke was using him for his power. He was a pawn. Now he's out from Snoke's shadow. An example of how TLJ does not ignore everything TFA set up.

    • I need some closure for Leia’s character arc. I think the best way to do it is to begin the film with a funeral. It would allow Lando to come back in a believable way, it would make it clear from the very beginning that her presence will be felt throughout the film, and it will provide fans with some closure after the loss of Carrie Fisher. It would be even better if her death directly affected the events of Episode IX (specifically regarding Kylo Ren’s story, being that I believe Leia would have had some key moments with him in the initial version of the film).
    • I really want Luke to return as a Force ghost. I don’t care how big or small his role is, but I need Luke to be a part of this film in some way, shape or form.
    • An all-out battle with Rey and Kylo Ren that tops their duel in The Force Awakens and the throne room scene in The Last Jedi (two of the best fights in the entire saga, in my opinion). I would love for “Duel of the Fates” to be incorporated, too (or pop up at some point in one of the big fight sequences in the film, considering this film is supposed to be the culmination of all nine saga films).
    • I’d love C-3PO and R2-D2 to be a little more prominent. I love BB-8, but I feel like those two have really gotten the short end of the stick since he entered the picture.
    • This is wishful thinking, but I would kill for a Force ghost reunion with Luke, Leia and Han in the end of the film, like what we got with Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda at the end of Return of the Jedi. I don’t really want this film to parallel Return of the Jedi the way The Force Awakens does with A New Hope, but I would love for us to get an original trio reunion in some form. I feel like they have to have enough footage of Carrie for that one shot. (And I know Han isn’t Force-sensitive as far as we know, but I think they could do it and make it work. I’m sure there’s an explanation, and besides, one of the Solo books that was recently released kind of hints that he has the Force, if I remember correctly.)

A funeral also gives a great possibility for Ren's character development. He could enter/visit his mother's funeral in secret or he watches it from far away. Then - without him knowing - the FO attacks the funeral because they want to destroy all of the Resistance.

+1, this could only be topped if the duel is set on Mustafar. #Poetry

No. Force ghosts should be something special. I already "didn't like" it that Anakin was a force ghost at the end of ROTJ. :p

I have a theory that Force Ghosts can interact with the physical world but are forbidden to directly interfere with the affairs of men. Yoda was able to burn down a tree in order to teach Luke a lesson. But the Force forbids him from doing something more invasive like fighting in a battle. Obi-wan Kenobi as a ghost can sit on a rock and teach Luke but tells him that he cannot interfere with the conflict against Vader. These are rules established by the Force.

So what if Snoke learns how to become a ghost and decides to break the rules of the Force and interferes in the final battle. And then the Force could allow Luke to show up and fight Snoke. We'd have a big epic Force Ghost fight in the middle of the final battle. Luke then would overpower Snoke and vanquish his soul from existence. How cool would that be?

I don't mean to sound negative, but most of the things I would've really wanted to see in IX are now impossible. For example:

    • Han and Luke make peace and Han says, "At long last, we're even."
    • Han and Leia make peace.
    • One or both of Ben's parents try to knock some sense into him and/or make peace with him
    • Luke and Leia did sort of already have their "peace" moment in TLJ, but I would have wanted to see more
    • Luke wins an epic lightsaber battle
To reiterate, I'll well aware that none of these can happen now. But I wish they could have happened. :)

I think if they killed off Hans and Luke then they can basically kill anyone - including Rey, so I would like that to be the twist. Kill her off relatively early, and have Luke feel the rage as a force ghost, taking on kylo and everything else, practically by himself, and revealing himself to be the most powerful Jedi ever. They can’t just use Luke as a wavery projection in the background, if he’s in the movie then surely he’s got to be a big part of the plot.
I’m thinking what scenes they can use of carrie fisher... maybe some of her in that command room in the rebel base. Maybe kylo can blow up that base early on and kill leia as well (she can’t be in very many scenes if they’re not doing cgi). That would enrage Luke even more.

This is NOT Luke's story anymore. Let the new players have its turn!

He will help out Rey and hopefully haunt Kylo. This is big enough of a part.

I think a few things that I would like to see are the folloing

1 - Lando and Chewie piloting the falcon in a final space battle against THE FIRST ORDER (Not destroying a death star or Starkiller but maybe destroying a blockade or a transport holding Hux and all of the Higher ups in the first order (Why they's all be in one place idk.... ask rian johnson he knows how to write dumb plots for the sake of a cool scene .... i mean... well its out there now.))

2 - Rey and Ben Solo battling Snoke in the world between worlds and seeing all of the previous lightsaber battles fro EP I-VIII clone wars and rebels. (Such awesomness proly wont happen though)

3 - Hayden Christiansen as Ghost Anakin having two conversations. 1 with Ben Solo urging him to come back to the light while a Darth Vader Ghost is encouraging him toward the dark handing him the Kylo Ren mask. and 2 - Ghosts Anakin, Luke, Obi-Wan, and Yoda as a sort of Jedi council instructing Rey on how to rebuild the Jedi starting with Finn.

4 - I would like Finn to Rey's Padawan and to see a development in the force with him.

5 - A scene where it is revealed that Rey is actually Emma Solo (slight friends reference of Ross's kids being named Ben and Emma and aging almost 10 years difference)

6 - Snoke coming back to life in a different body (perhaps he has a force ability to cheat death my maniulating his midichlorians on to another... perhaps Hux). I'd also like a reveal for him to be Darth Plagiues (at least an explanation of who he is)

7 - Redemption of Ben Solo.

8 - Poe Dameron kicking ass like he did in EPVII

I'm aware most of this wont happen but one can dream.

I would argue that as you are partially right it's Luke's story... He is a big enough player that he sould play a Gandalf esk role in the story... he shouldn't be diminished to wavy force ghost guy that has like to conversations. He didn't need the kind of character arc that he got in VIII but his level involvement in the story and plot was good.... remember this is the story about the skywalker's.... all of them. Which kinda makes it Luke's story to some degree

    Sorry if someone mentioned it.

In the history of Sith and Jedi we know only a Sith has cheated life.
What will happen if we see Luke returning as the first Jedi who has discovered how to cheat life?
We all know Luke will come back. But how? Force ghost? A voice? If we think about it, seeing Luke alive in this episode could be a huge "What the..." moment, a surprise no one could expect.

Imagine for a sec the beginning of E9. The title, the crawl, the space, and the first we see is Luke fighting in the dark to return (something Like Gandalf with the Balrog). Personally, I would love to see something like that. Or one of the characters travelling to a known force planet and discover Luke out there.
End this Skywalker saga giving importance to Luke would be melancholic, significative and great.

Is it too much to ask that we get to see Daisy Ridley and Keri Russell share a tender kiss?

Hmmm. I don't know. Part of me wants to see something new like that. The other part of me wants to keep it more traditional. I mean, of course I want to see Luke back in the flesh. With the new level of force ghost interaction with the physical realm as demonstrated by Yoda and Luke, then there is obviously a whole new range of possibilities; there's no telling WHAT ability we may see a force ghost perform in IX. I think Rian Johnson pushed that envelope and gave us new ground to expand upon when it come to this issue. I'm an open minded person. I'm glad we got to see some new force techniques so far in this trilogy. I think star wars as a whole needs just that. Something new! I'd like to see Luke try the "impossible" and come back to the physical realm or perform some awesome new force ghost techniques. If you think about it, him being on Crait and confronting Kylo/speaking with his sister, up close, face to face with , brushing his hand on her cheek without having to actually BE there is pretty damn amazing.

Don't turn Luke into Liam Neeson from Taken, please. Also, let Luke rest in peace. This trilogy is the story of Rey, not Luke. I know some find it hard to accept, but Rey is the one that should save the day, not him, not Yoda, not even Kylo.

    STAR WARS
    Episode IX
    SHADOWS OF THE DARKSIDE

Supreme Leader Kylo Ren had lead the
galaxy into a state of peace. The FIRST
ORDER has become more powerful than
    it's predecessor, the GALACTIC EMPIRE.

A small band rebels is in doubt of their leader
Poe Dameron. Unsure of why a war is being
waged against a peaceful ruler the rebellion
is in a state of turmoil.

The Knight of Ren have returned from their
long chase. They have captured a war
criminal from the first rebellion and are
taking him to an old Imperial Prison on
    the planet Bakura....

A First Oder Starship lands on the planets surface. the docking station of an old imperial prison. the black masked figures appear from the ship with an aged Lando Calrissian in tow. They are greeted by The prison Warden. An older woman.

Warden: Welcome to The Bakura First Order Prison, Who are you?

Knight 1: We are disciples of the Supreme leader. The Knights of Ren. We have procured a prize for our master. This rebel scum has a rather sizable list of crimes

    Warden: Name?

Lando: Wait haven't you heard of me?

    Warden: Should I have?

Lando: Sweet heart Im Lando Calrissian, (the warden pulls out a data pad) I'm the administrator of cloud city

Warden: not according to your rap sheet (shows lando his list of transgretions) Smuggling? really?

Lando: so business is a crime now? (One of the knight 2 force chokes lando)

Knight 2: Not another word. (he lets go land starts coughing)

Warden: also I see gambling, embezzlement, substance abuse. war crimes, first degree murder, oh and whats my personal favorite, The purchase of Illicit services. (signals guard) take this slime ball to cell block 2187 with the other rebel scum.

Lando is lead to an elevator. The knights and the warden follow. Lando is taken to a cell across from a woman. she has graying red hair and appears to be unconscious. Lando takes notice and finds the woman familiar.

Warden: Tell the supreme leader we have general calrissian

Guard: Sir (salute and heads off)

Knight 1: (leans in to Lando) Supreme Leader will be quite pleaes to see you where you blong.

Lando: How is the the little rugrat. (the knight punches Lando)

Knight 1: How dare you speak of Master Ren that way

Lando: Yeah what ever tell him uncle Lando says hi. (The Knights and the wardens leave) Tell him he doesn't stand a chance against General Organa.

Lando is left alone and he catches sight of the woman still unconscious. He looks guilty Scene changes
