This is a tough one... my initial take is that if the franchise is to successfully continue it really, really needs to draw a line with the OT cast.
Those characters will always be at the very core of our GFFA, but they cannot be all that it hinges on.

I agree. If Lucasfilm want to continue using a young Luke Skywalker in productions set directly after "Return of the Jedi" or during "The Mandalorian", then it needs to find a young actor to portray the role. Unlike many others, I had no problems with Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo. I thought he had done a great job in recapturing Han's personality without resorting to mimicking Harrison Ford.

I hope that happens. I really do. Because not only do I hate that Lucasfilm had wiped out the Skywalker family line, but did so with bad writing. Having Palpatine's granddaughter assume the family's name was the last straw that broke the camel's back for me.

Luke's appearance in Ep5 of TBoBF makes it clear that with modern de-aging and voice technology, they can recreate Mark Hamill circa 1983 quite well. If that's the way Lucasfilm chooses to continue, count me in as a fan.

    I sure did.

The producers of Solo narrowed the field down to five actors who all looked like a young Harrison Ford when they needed to find a young actor who could successfully capture The Attitude of a young Han Solo. IMHO, that WASN'T Alden. But it wasn't the actor's fault. He was miscast.

Though I think he did a fine job, all things considering, given the task at hand.

I was, however, kind of hoping they'd choose someone else...
Granted, he still is relatively unexperienced in live-action productions (doing mainly voice-work these days), that could have been remedied with some small parts in other projects.

I was hoping for Anthony Ingruber!
He played a younger version of the Harrison Ford character in Age of Adeline.
He looks like a young Harrison, sounds like him and knows his mannerisms (both facial and physical) to a tee!

He does look a lot like Ford.

I want to see a fan film where Luke and Leia are extremely de-aged back into Padme's womb. They hear everything happening outside. Leia says to Luke, "It's beautiful in here, but kind of sad."

I agree that Ingruber bears an uncanny resemblance to Harrison Ford, but I am very glad they didn't go with him. Granted, I've only seen him in one thing -- that movie where he plays the young version of Harrison Ford's character -- but he was not good in that one. I thank the Whills that LFL went with a much better actor for young Han, and one who did an absolutely stellar job at that.

I acknowledged this and suggested they could have put him in a few smaller roles (because they had plenty of time back then) to hone his craft.
They even could have pushed the shooting dates forward to give him even more time!

I like the movie we got just fine (it IS in my collection after all...), but when I see Alden and his portrayal I do have to remind myself I'm watching Han Solo just roughly 10 years before ANH.
With Anthony that wouldn't have been an issue.

But as we say in my country (translated literally): In hindsight, one looks a cow in the @$$... :D
We'll have to make do with what we got. ;)

As if my mind's eye wasn't besotted enough by the dark side....

If C'baoth is floating within that tank during the Fallen Order trailer, then Luuke Skywalker is not off the table.

I love that they finally opened the door to cloning force sensitives and the monsters that tinkering with life can create.

I was more than happy with Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo. Ehrenreich did a great job of recapturing Han's personality without resorting to mere impersonation.

No one. It looks terrible and is completely unnecessary. They need to either cast actors (be they the original or someone that looks similar), or just don't use those characters. It's a huge universe with hundreds of different notable characters, let alone the potential for new characters.

Y'know what really sucks? Chances are slim we will ever see Han Solo again in live-action because of the recasting vs CGI issue. KK sorta stepped on her own tongue stating they would never recast Legacy characters. Somebody actually wrote an article calling her a liar after Obi Wan Kenobi featured Leia as a child. I guess they were supposed to de-age Carrie and stick her face onto an eight-year-old? That wouldn't have been creepy at all!
Now with Han, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. My fear is that they will just take the easy way out and never put themselves in a position to have to explain the decision.

She never actually said that though. The variety article makes a really tortured and tenuous attempt at giving this impression though and a lot of fans and fan media outlets decided to run with that as the main point of the interview. The article mentioned the difficulties of "replicating the swagger" of legacy characters and then placed her quote about "a learning experience .... of some of the things we can and can't do" in that context. But a lot of media outlets decided to report that as Kennedy throwing Alden under a bus or forecasting that Solo 2 was a non starter. Both of which are pure speculation.

The article actually made it sound as if there was an existing consensus that Solo disappointed at the box office because of people rejecting or being critical of Alden as Han, and that Kennedy was acknowledging this. Which is completely false.

Well, ok then. Thanks for clearing that up. It makes a bit more sense than such an odd generalization as "we will never ____... "
Furthermore, I am shocked that the fan base and the media took such a thing out of context and turned someone's own words against them. I truly hope this is an isolated incident of such behavior...
