    I really think they should have revealed him at the end of The Last Jedi instead of broom boy. He contributes nothing.

    The premise of TLJ was that Luke needed to return in order to inspire the galaxy and rekindle hope. Li’l Broomie is there to be the stinky evidence that it worked. News of Luke’s action somehow managed to find its way aaaaaaall the way down to these dung covered ragamuffins and give them hope.

    Message: what might seem like a loss was actually the first step toward a larger victory. TROS masterfully converted that concept into well textured toilet paper, but it's still a rather big contribution to the story of TLJ anyhow.
