I grew up with the Original Trilogy and the Skywalker family but it's time to let go. As I mentioned in an other post Star Wars is not just about the Skywalker's.

I genuinely hope Rey is not a Skywalker so we are given the opportunity to explore other individuals, families, people, communities, civilizations and cultures in the GFFA.

This is like a double-edged sword for me personally...I'm damned if I do or don't.

At one time I'd HAD a lot of personal "emotion" (if you will) invested in Rey being Luke's daughter, and at any moment expected to hear the announcement that she was just that...in a reveal that would leave me grinning, but as time goes on I feel that hope slipping away.

For me, Star Wars (the Saga) is, and has always been, the story of the Skywalker family...and should continue to be, as the non-Skywalker movies can be told in anthology movies and trilogies on the side where they belong.

I'm not especially interested in seeing Kylo Ren continue the story as the face of the family, as I'm not especially impressed with the character himself, and sadly, I probably would opt for the bluray release instead of standing in line at the theater if this saga continues without the Skywalkers, which I personally feel will be a mis-step on the part of LFL and Disney.

I do still feel like there can be that reveal where Rey is Lukes daughter and could be announced in IX in a way that didn't take too much time, and that backstory could be told in a side movie of its own, but only time will tell....and I'm not holding my breath, sadly.

Now, aside from the saga and Rey being Lukes daughter, I absolutely LOVED Rogue One and Solo, and despite the fact that I didn't see Solo in theaters (which is a first EVER for me) because I was a bit put-off about Alden playing a young Solo (I just couldn't accept it), when I bought the bluray, I was VERY pleased with the product, and did actually lament the decision to not see it on the big screen.

I'm greatly looking forward to B&W's trilogy that's reportedly set hundreds of years before the saga, which to me means Sith and Jedi...or at least I'm hoping, and will be seeing it in theaters.

In the end, for me Star Wars will always be about the Skywalker family...their triumphs, their tragedies, their relationship with the Forge, and their coming of age, and if they cease to be, then anything from that time forward will something else to me...will still be SW, but not hold the same place in my heart as the first two trilogies do.

I'll still be a SW fan, and will still see and own them all, but with a different regard and emotional interest.

Call me "nostalgic", but it saddens me to even consider believing that the Skywalkers story is over...but I'll still watch it.

Agreed. What you said here puts a lie to the argument that Rey being a random does nothing for developing and/or advancing her character. It totally does.

As for Post-Episode 9 movies, I would 100% agree that we should move on from the Skywalker Family. But for Episode 9 (which is part 9 of the Skywalker Saga) it never made sense to me that they decided to go with Rey Nobody. I don’t know how they retcon that plot point now after TLJ, but it’s disappointing for me that she is Rey Nobody who is essentially the Protagonist of the final Trilogy in the Skywalker Saga.

I still like the compromise of Rey being a random but at the end of the trilogy taking in the Skywalker name.

Hell, JJ can make everybody happy (or pissed off) by ending IX by someone asking Rey who she is and she replies “I’m Rey, Rey Skywalker” and leaving it without any further info or exposition. Those who are wanting Rey to be Luke’s daughter can say see I told you she was a Skywalker. Those in the random side can say that’s great she took the Skywalker name and we can all discuss/argue about for the rest of time :p

hahaha ~ and if she leaves with Ben at the end of episode ix with no explanation as to the nature of their relationship, she gets to be a Skywalker by name, attached to one by blood, and potentially start a whole new line if you ship 'em. everybody will get what they want and everyone will be frustrated and furious at the same time. XD

Star Wars is my life, I'll never stop watching/enjoying it (until I become one with the Force that is)! :p

As for Rey being a Skywalker, I really don't mind whether she is or isn't.
