    This is where "Depends" comes into play;

I personally think that if he is going to be an unseen protector, that he is probably going to have to leave the planet to perhaps do his "job".

I imagine that somewhere along the way, he's likely tapped into the local system "spy ring" and gets intelligence passed to him, and with that, if he were to learn that there were people asking too many questions that may either threaten Luke or himself that he'd move to intercept said individuals if it was necessary.

I expect that if he had to hop to a local planet in the system to perform that interception and erase the threat he would, instead of waiting for it to show up at the Lars' front door.

Right, he can't afford to blow his cover that way. Silent, deadly, and disappear back to Tatooine like nothin' happened.

He’d have to do it in a way, only a Jedi could do...

If the filmmakers want to do an Obi-Wan movie set on Tatooine, fine. But I'm not against him leaving the planet for an adventure - even if it is on another planet in the Outer Rim of the galaxy. There is no one way or the other in this situation.

I would rather he just stay on Tatooine. Having him planet hop would raise to many concerns for me. One he left Luke to whatever perils Tatooine may hurl at him. Going by the recent canon that is a pretty extensive list. Then he is bound to be recognized as a Jedi by multiple people in the movie.

If they make an Obi Wan movie (I would rather it just be a streaming service exclusive) set it on Tatooine and have flashbacks to his Clone Wars days. Maybe there is some mysterious figure targeting him (shame Rebels already wasted Maul) and the movie takes us back for a Clone Wars sequence as he remembers who it is a figure from his past that is coming after him. Would be a great way to have Hayden cameo and get your off world Obi Wan buzz.

Obi-Wan could remain on Tatooine and young Luke gets killed in an accident on the Lars farm. Or he dies of food poisoning or something. The only way that Obi-Wan can keep that close of an eye on Luke would be for him to live on the Lars farm.

I see no reason for Obi-Wan to leave Tatooine during an adventure in a movie . . . and return. This mentality that Obi-Wan has to keep such a close eye on Luke is ridiculous, because since he doesn't live on the Lars farm, he would never be able to do so, regardless of his Force abilities.

But we know that Luke survives. So obi-wan can leave. Thankfully there is no time travel in Star Wars. Time is fluid and always changing until it happens. Once it happens that’s it, no changing. So Luke can’t die.

Just like in raising your own kids, you can’t wrap them in a bubble and unwrap them at 18 and think they’re ready for the real world. Now with Luke, he’d be thrown into the galaxy. It’s sounds like obi-wan kept an eye on him, but wasn’t apart of his up bringing.

I personally don’t think the emperor or Vader thought Luke was alive and Vader had no reason to go back to tatooine cause he knew his mother was dead.

Owen and beru were tough people and they raised Luke to be a tough farmer. Farmers are great jack of all trades. They were perfect for his life teachers.

Not at all! I think it will make it even more interesting. Of course his long term stay is on Tatooine, there is no other way to protect Luke.

Not at all. In fact, I've dreamed of scenarios in which he'd HAVE to leave the planet. They involve a sort of reboot/retcon ending at the end, but I still think it would work fine for the characters. If the story takes Kenobi to other planets, I welcome it (...so long as its done well...)

I honestly think Dave Filoni massively stepped on the toes of the Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off.

The perfect story for me would have been for Obi-Wan to be watching over Luke and the Lars family. Have Owen Lars get mixed with the crime syndicates (primarily the Hutts) and Obi-Wan stepping in to protect them. This would have inadvertently got him on Crimson Dawns radar. Then the finale would have been an epic confrontation with Maul.

So much potential for a underworld/gangster vibe with Detective Obi-Wan. Would have tied in massively to Solo and Q’ira could have been involved.

...but Rebels just had to use Maul, didn’t they! :p

I almost expect Obi Wan to planet hop in this show.
    1) cinematically, being in a desert for 5+ episodes is boring to some.
    2) added characters means added settings and places.
    3) they’re using the Mandalorian’s game engine technology. If this was just a desert, they’d just film it in the... desert.

Six out of eight episodes of 'The Mandalorian' prominently took place in a desert setting. None of it was shot in an actual desert.

That's the whole point of the game engine and "The Volume". So, they don't have to go the desert. That said, there was some location shooting, but I don't think it involved the actors. It was mainly background imagery.

I have been thinking about this and my opinion is just because he was to watch over Luke, doesn't mean that's all he does. From ANH- we know that Obi-Wan and Owen had a falling out from both of their conversations with Luke. So what was the reason for that? Could it be that Ben left on some Damn fool idealistic crusade and left Luke vulnerable? Or caused someone to hunt them down? Now, Vader shouldn't be looking for Luke (since he thinks the child died with Padme), but if Ben uses a lightsaber or the force- maybe Inquisitors start looking for him and brings them close to the Lars family.

    Things they say like:

I have something here for you. Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow it. He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade like your father did.

    Or

When Owen says: That wizard's just a crazy old man. You stay away from him, you hear me? He's dangerous.

Would be interesting to delve into.

Yes, I always was under the impression that Luke knew Ben Kenobi well, albeit it’s been a long time since they had met. When Luke says “Ben? Boy am I glad to see you!” That says a lot to me.

For me it would be an issue if he spend the whole show on Tatooine

Exactly... after all its the GFFA so there has to be more than just desert worlds.
However it seems every planet is an extreme of the next. Desert, Forest, Water, City and Snow Worlds...

Assuming the "story group" is familiar w/ the material, Kenobi knew exactly how to get off Tatooine in EP IV which implies he's been off-world before.

As I posted in another thread I'd geek out over seeing Coruscant and the Jedi temple again...
    --- Double Post Merged, Sep 18, 2020, Original Post Date: Sep 18, 2020 ---
Kenobi distraught having failed Anakin fears he'll also fail Luke so he's off to the Jedi Temple to retrieve Jedi scripts/holocrons which is where the adventure begins.... Sneaking into a ransacked and heavily guarded temple... add a force ghost Jedi Counciil w/ a Yoda force projection...
