I think they used the voice actors from the animated series.

    Really?!

I think I’ll ask for “Dooku: Jedi Lost,” audiobook then. :)

I think it is first and foremost an audiobook production. The “novel” version is just the script printed out and doesn’t sound like a fun read to me.

I don’t have either version yet. If anyone here does, I’d love to hear what they think.

Oh an audio production! Those are grand! The Lord of the Rings audio production had not only the voices, but sound effects and creature sounds. The Nazgul/Ringwraiths woke me up once when I fell asleep listening to the production. Their shrieks were terrifying! :D

Qui-Gon and Obi get a lot of votes.

You are the first fo have Shimi Skywalker in your list. Without her we would have no Skywalkers or SW as we know it, “She is mother to us all.”

Qui-gon Jinn is the coolest Jedi in the prequels. It's such a shame he was killed off, but I'm a big fan of this guy.

Qui-Gon Jinn is my favorite unorthodox Jedi. I agree that his demise was too quick and I wish he had survived tell ROTS.

His even being in Star Wars is a curious thing, because had CGI Yoda been feasible for The Phantom menace, there likely wouldn't have been a Qui-gon Jinn. Then, to have him there, he's readjusting Yoda's history because he's not the trainer of Obi-wan Ben explicitly stated that he was. Much like he did with his retelling of the demise of Luke's father.

So, it was more than just another Jedi, with Qui-gon, as hes kind of pushing Yoda's role in a whole other direction. Had he been played by anyone other than Liam Neeson, I can't imagine how that would work. Because Liam A) wanted to be in this movie and actively sought after the role ...

And B) is such an easy presence to appreciate and look forward to in the film. He's just elevates the script by his actual persona. He just comes across as near to what a Jedi Master would be.

Well said! You bring up one of Kenobi’s discrepencies, that he mentioned he believed he could instruct Anakin as well as Master Yoda had instructed him. I wonder if AOTC sought to remedy this with Yoda teaching classrooms of Younglings and that Yoda in ROTS tells Kenobi he has training for him so that he may learn to commune with Qui-Gon who has refurned from the Netherworld of the Force.

Count Dooku then adds another dynamic as Qui-Gon’s master who became Jedi Lost. Yoda then says to Dooku, “fought well you have my old Padawan.” Which tells us Lord Tyranus was trained by Master Yoda to Knighthood.

Either Yoda helped train many Jedi from Padawan fo Knight or he simply had one Padawan (Dooku) and trained Jedi en masse for sessions like lightsaber training:

Kenobi's telling Luke that Yoda trained him could also have been, quite simply, his using an ounce of inaccuracy to save on a pound of explaination. Although it seems pretty clear that in making The Empire Strikes Back that Yoda was the only Jedi training Ben, at all.

But Star Wars has never been overly concerned with canon, especially when all that popcorn is at stake. Still ... had CGI Yoda been available, I can't see how we would have gotten to know Qui-gon, with him as just some side-guy, had he even been in the final thing. And what a shame that would be!

A shame indeed if Qui-Gon had been left on a drawing board. In Claudia Gray’s book, Qui-Gon says my favorite quote:

“It matters which side we choose. Even if there will never be more light than darkness. Even if there can be no more joy in the galaxy than there is pain. For every action we undertake, for every word we speak, for every life we touch—it matters. I don’t turn toward the light because it means someday I’ll ‘win’ some sort of cosmic game. I turn toward it because it is the light.”

How cool is that? I'm not one for reading novelizations, really, because authors are not always good at capturing the mode of speech the actors, themselves, use. Even though that very same dialogue might have been given the actors in another show, the writers don't always take them into account. I know that probably seems odd, but it's a pet peeve of mine, maybe. I don't know.

The trick of a writer is to master the mode and subtlety of speech a character uses. That ia easy for Yoda, “Grave choices to make, you have.” But it is much harder to capture say Luke Skywalker who in some of EU doesn’t seem at all like our Jedi Knight and Rebel Hero in some of those novels.

Qui-Gon is even harder because Liam Nesson has destinct form of speech and accent. I was glad Nesson reprised his role in The Clone Wars Series:

Didn't know Liam did that show. I think that's wonderful. He ups the very quality of everything he's in. They were fortunate to have him.

Palpatine and Anakin/Vader are my Top 2 favorite Star Wars characters overall, but I'm disqualifying them from consideration because they appear in multiple trilogies...

... which leaves me with Padme and Jar-Jar.
