So many great characters! Consensus seems to be that they are not "fleshed out" enough. But that is Lucas' way of telling stories: by having things going on under the surface, telling stories by omissions (just like Ernst's iceberg technique).

    1. Qui Gon - the jedi who everyone was afraid of because he pushed the limits and believed nothing happens by accident.
    2. Anakin - a boy who was taken away from his mother and who realizes he should have stayed back home rather than going on an adventure
    3. Mace Windu - everything he says is wrong. Where Qui Gon was the jedi who pushed the spiritual limits, Mace Windu is the Jedi who breaks all moral rules.
    4. Count Dooku - a businessman who also happened to be a jedi. Faith in the jedi he has lost long time ago. Enter sith-master sidious who gives him no other alternative than joining the dark side.
    5. Obi-Wan - once a patient jedi who was mindful of the future (feeling there is something going wrong, something who ellusive) but who -- because of years of wars -- turns into an impatient and irritated jedi who can't see the trees for the forest.
    6. Yoda - an arrogant green little alien who knows everything is going to hell. But does not do anything.
    7. Shmi - Cool, calm and collected. Not so much her own character (i.e. a passive character) as she is a source of missings and longings for her son.

Obi Wan easily. He’s played brilliantly and made a fantastic character by Ewan

I so agree. Her ability to fight but also be diplomatic and always see the good in Anakin shows not only everything you stated but level-headedness, altruistic, and good-natured yet not naive. Not to mention her portrayal was perfect. (Maybe I am biased because she was my childhood crush but so was Anakin and I've always liked her more.)

I think Kenobi and Yoda are two close seconds. Ewan's portrayal of humor mixed with pain and agony is phenomenal. He managed to portray an apprentice, a young master, and a true master all in one. His "you were my brother Anakin. I loved you." Is so good. He is such a deep and complicated character.

Yoda because his cloudedness was portrayed so well and it was just sgi. Like how? His sadness and badass nature mixed with humor are beautifully done.

My favorite prequel characters: Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Palpatine. I like Padme too. R2D2 is the GOAT of all the saga.(artoo)

R2 D2 is so underrated. He does so much for the republic at the time of the cw. Not to mention in the OT. Keep on mind that Luke, Lea, Han, and Chewie would have been killed in the trash compactor if it wasn’t for that little droid. Now that I think of it, R2 saved a lot of people in his robotic lifetime.

Qui-Gon is a strong contender. Wise but with a rebellious streak. He seems to have what the Jedi were lacking, and I wonder how the entire galaxy woud have been different with him still in it. I love whenever he comes up in other stories.

Id have to say my absolute favorite prequel character is Obi-Wan. Ewan gave that character such life and I really can't wait to see him again in his mini series.
After Obi-wan, Id have to say Qui-Gon. I have a whole new appreciation for him after listening to Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray. To round out my top 3 I'm going to say Padme. I think its awesome that she was elected so young to be the Queen of Naboo, and she really genuinely cared about her people and the republic, plus she is Luke and Leia's mom.

Honorable mention goes to R2 because who doesn't love that little astromech, plus he is great across the whole Skywalker Saga.

One random thing I like about what Lucas decided to do with padmé is the whole hair thing. We all know the classic Lea hair. Its wacky and rather elegant. But, in the timeline of Star Wars, Padmé was rocking the wacky hair first. I mean, if you watch the PT and CW youll see what I mean. Padmé has all sorts of odd styles. So, maybe Lea remember very few things of her mother, like the hair and kept that tradition going. This is really random but when yiu brought up padmé this reminded me to say this. :)

Poor Nute Gunray, nobody likes it ... I don't understand why nobody wants to see a standalone movie on commercial rates.
In all seriousness I think Dooku is the most interesting character in the prequel, and he's just (essentially) in a movie. I also like Obi Wan and Anakin, I like Padme less, because after Anakin slaughtered a group of women and children her first thought was: let's marry this guy! It's a little odd... but also, I liked more the characters who actually kill and slaughtered a bunch of children and women ... so maybe I am the one who takes odd preferences.

Dooku however is my favorite characters, played by one of my favorite actor.

Eh I think she likes to help people - she also knew his innocence - she wanted to save him. Bring him back to the light. There's also an attraction to darkness that people who are mostly "light" have that I understand. The force wanted them to be together. Plus, he doesn't like sand. Wouldn't you wanna marry someone who doesn't like sand as well?

    Count Dooku.
I see where they we're going with the style of his character. He was like one of the three musketeers. The swagger/sword style/curved saber hilt. Even his sail ship with it's own droid driver. He definitely had the style of a count. Many similarities with the Count of Monte Cristo.

Have you read this? You'll find some serious darkside treachery involving such as you mentioned above. Yea pretty damn evil to the point of my discomfort.

I still don't understand why they didn't take this book trilogy and adapt it into it's own trilogy. I felt like this was low hanging fruit. The beginning of Rule of Two. I personally would have found it fascinating. Bane was a good anti-hero. I ponder this often:
