I (respectfully) disagree with the logic of the second ranking..Of course it’s a preference and all...

ESB doesn’t have a great story, and while rewatchable for the beginning third and ending third...that second act drags, and the story grinds to a halt. I think it must do that to be the movie it wants to be and makes the the other two acts pop, as well as all that awesome character work, but it is very slow and easy to lose the thread.

I legitimately despise TFA for being a letdown that is super derivative and based on an irritating assumption by JJ & KK’s that making Rey a god will make everyone forget they didn’t know how to make a sequel to OT with the hero of the OT, Luke Skywalker.

That said, TFA is super rewatchable. The story of discovering the galaxy 30 years later through the eyes of Boyega and Ridley, their characters, and their veneers, is pretty compelling. And I want to believe every time that Luke will show up and do something.

    Also, no RO?

    Jake Lloyd> Han & Chewie’s last ride?

    Just saying.

Let me know where you think Solo fits into your list.. the early reviews....are kind of what I expected, mixed in the exact ways that will make the film unifying and maddening.

I might move some of the pieces around but I think you have the top 5 and bottom 5 right.
Rogue One has steadily moved down for me.

Stoically walks into the chatroom, saber hilt clipped to his rough hewn belt buckle. He unclips it and raises it to eye level. "This isn't going to go the way you think!" He yells as he ignites the blade, only instead of an epic laser sword a very mundane yellow domed umbrella sprouts from the grip. "Bring on the rain of hate!" And with that he plops down his series list.

    1 - Rogue One
    2 - The Last Jedi
    3 - Empire Strikes Back
    4 - Solo
5 - Revenge of the Sith
    6 - The Force Awakens
7 - Return of the Jedi
    8 - The Phantom Menace
    9 - A New Hope
10 - Attack of the Clones

Just saw this response so sorry for getting back to you so late. I really liked Solo as it harkened back to the 1977 Original Film (The movies doesn't take itself too seriously and that is when SW works the best, IMO). Honestly, I can't rank the movies as one big list anymore because there are too many variables? Newsness? Nostalgia? Do they work with the Saga? Do they work on their own? I think the best way to rank them as is by each Trilogy and Standalones as that is probably the fairest way to compare:

    OT
    1. ESB
    2. ANH
    3. ROTJ

    PT
    1. ROTS
    2. AOTC
    3. TPM

    ST
    1. TFA
    2. TLJ (This is fluid because Episode 9 is not out yet and could put a different perspective on many plot points).

    Standalones
    1. Solo
    2. R1

Even with nostalgia tinted glasses on it doesn't hold up in my opinion. Never liked OT Luke (grumpy Luke is best Luke) and prefer Alden Ehrenreich's Han to Ford's. For context, I grew up watching the original films on VHS with my dad but never caught any in theatres.

Now this is a sensible way to look at things they may be a set of 9 films plus a couple of individual ones (I don’t really consider them stand alone as they are connected to the main Saga film just not part of them) but it’s been 41years since the first 1 came out so even trying to compare them is getting a bit tricky. I wonder if in 40 years they get TH back as Peter Parker for Avengers Whatever Marvel fans will have the same issues.

My list for what it’s worth

    PT
    ROTS
    TPM
    AOTC

    OT
    ANH
    ESB
    ROTJ
This is the most difficult ranking as they interchange all the time I recently had the pleasure of watching ESB & ROTJ with my 4 1/2 year old nephew & it was a joy to watch them though ROTJ actually more so as it’s a lot more lighthearted so who you watch these films with also effects how you perceive them.

    ST
    TLJ
    TFA

    ASWS
    SOLO
    R1

i think my list would look exactly like yours!
the only one i quibble a bit with is R1 & Solo.
when Solo comes out on video, i'll be able to see, by habit of watching, whether i prefer it over R1. : D

it's a shame that such a small number voted on this. with all the discord since December around here, it would actually be helpful to see the results with a few hundred members voting.

as it is, approx 40% having it in their top 3 and over 30% putting it in the bottom 3.. fascinating.

Here's a relatively recent pole done on Twitter where people got asked what they think of TLJ and the number of people who voted is big enough to consider these results reliable:

With time I'm sure the number of people who like the film will undoubtedly increase and in 2020 there will be a plethora of hot takes on "why The Last Jedi is the best film of the Sequel Trilogy" or something like that. Films that create such an outcry are always remembered, especially if they're as big as TLJ. It's unavoidable.

interesting numbers, although i have very little faith in what people say and tick on the internet. i have way more faith in the members here and would still love to see this exact poll answered by big chunk of our active members.

not sure if it's a good thing that 20k liked it, or a bad thing that over 6k didn't lol.
let's go with a 'bit of both' :D

My list always is changing but now it’s this.

    1. A New Hope
    2. Empire
    3. ROTJ

    4. TLJ
    5. TFA
    6. ROTS
    7. Solo
    8. R1
    9. TPM
    10. AOTC

I put a couple of spaces after the top 3 because I feel the three OT movies are far superior to the rest.

Mine goes a little like this:

    1. Empire Strikes Back
    2. The Last Jedi
    3. Revenge of the Sith
    4. A New Hope
    5. Return of the Jedi
    6. Solo
    7. The Force Awakens
    8. Rogue One
    9. Attack of the Clones
    10. The Phantom Menace
The toughest one for me is Return of the Jedi because I think the ending is just so phenomenal but the rest of the movie is meh. I feel similarly towards Rogue One, as well. TLJ, however, is a pretty easy #2 for me. It's just such a beautiful mess of everything I love. Made me feel like a kid again. :)
