There's a lot of speculation about what will happen after Ep. 9 right now. Some people think we'll just get a ton of standalone films. Others think Rey and Co. will come back for another trilogy, some even going as far as to take Kathleen Kennedy's quote about the saga being about the Skywalkers to mean that there's a hidden Skywalker in the film (this thread is not the place to debate that).

Here's a thought, though. What if we do get a new set of trilogies, but they're denoted differently than the previous main saga films?

For instance, what if we get a trilogy set in the Old Republic, such as

The Old Republic: Episode 1- Tusks of Mandalore
The Old Republic: Episode 2- Death of the Force
The Old Republic: Episode 3- Sith Repentance

(Terrible titles, sure, but more just to get the point across).
There are a ton of things we could cover. We could get a Rogue Squadron trilogy, a Star Wars Rebels trilogy, we could even get a Clone Wars trilogy.

Alternatively, we could get something like a Yuuzhan Vong trilogy that could still feature some of our characters like Rey and Finn set after the events of the ST, but not feel as obligated to include older characters like Luke.

Just some thoughts. Not saying any single one of these trilogies would or should happen, just that it may be possible to use a format like it.
