I've been away from the site for awhile for some time now. Lately I've been having a hard time getting into the whole Episode 7 hype. For some reason it just feels as if it's not really happening and this is like a dream. I don't know what's wrong with me I've loved Star Wars my whole life. I'm sure it will pass after the first trailer but I was wondering if anyone feels the same way?

I'm not losing the hype it's as strong 10 years ago as it was now I've just been unhappy in jedi council forums trying to express excitement & support but those guys stamp on me harder than a rancor I had to find a site that allow open opinion & on Jan 8th I did, I hope they don't shut it down in the next 10 years, well you are here posting amongst us so if there was no hype you wouldn't be doing that.

For me it ebbs and flows. I feel it has to do with whether new info is available or not, and I "lose the hype" in a sense when we go through periods without much news. I think it's just my mind saying "ok, hold up there, you can't be on the edge all the time" and getting me to relax about it.

But with even the slightest bit of new info my hype level is right back up there.

Imagine if we have buildup of Plagueis in EP IX, then when he finally appears he opens his eyes and BAM! we realize the entire saga was a bad dream he was having, pondering the Force and manipulations as much as he was in waking. And then, REBOOT!

I jest but I'm fairly certain death threats would be made in such a case.

Well, its not the same feeling when I saw the first pictures of the backstage and concept art of TPM, but at least TFA looks much more "real" SW to me than the PT. So, I have a good feeling about the new movies.

Well you can't be hyped all the time. Like right now i'm kind of "meh" about it due to the lack of anything new or substantial news lately. I only get hyped up when they release trailers. All these leaks of images and plot points do nothing for me. But best believe when the first official trailer drops in the fall the hype train will start up again

I'm pretty much hyped 24/7. Right now I feel like I'm going stir crazy waiting for ANYTHING to happen, but I'm sure that once the trailer hits and we go into the home stretch, I'll be buzzing with excitement. The thing that sucks though is that my Thesis is due the day of TFA, so I'me already working on it trying to finish before December so I can just let the hype envelop me.

My hype staring decreasing with news of the magic saber and button scene Luke but more than those...

My hype went way down when we learned they aren't Lucas' treatments.

Don't get me wrong, I hated the prequels. I'm well aware that Lucas made up stuff as he went along. I was happy he wasn't writing the script or directing.

But not even using his outlines for the episodic films??

This is just his galaxy and a few if his characters.

That is the definition of fan fiction.

Add that to what they are doing in the comics, books, etc...

This is essentially a reboot. It just doesn't feel quite right.

I'm surprised about how many fans are ok with it, because I'm not even a fanatic.

I guess starvation makes people more accepting

** and here is a problem with this community. You can't speak critically about stuff without being down voted.

It's actually really weird that someone would sit and down vote someone for expressing an opinion, especially in a thread about the topic.

I guess it's easier for some to just accept everything and like what they are told to like?? And like it to the point if defending it??

    Strange

It's clear he is not going to tell you, I agree that rating was used a bit early, if Plagueis was confirmed for a appearance we would have heard it at SDCC & Celebration.

    I feel yuh.

I think I'm getting too hyped and it's making me feel worried it'll suck somehow.

im sorry to hear of your new disinterest bro. you are a long time member of the cantina. I don't think its just you though. Lately iv noticed that we had a moderate turnover. we have new members that replaced the ones we dont see anymore. we naturally flow in and out of interests and i dont think it has anything to do with your passion. sometimes its just nice to take a break to prevent burnout.

You know the most common thing athletes say after winning a ring after a long arduous career?

    "It doesn't feel real."

Our brains are pretty amazing things and they can temper neuroses, temptation and anticipation and help you disassociate it with it in order to cope with it. It's why some of us can be incredibly calm during a catastrophe or not sweat a presentation in front of 6500 people.

I get the way about 3 weeks before the film hits. By then the spoiler detective game has ceased to be fun, I'm actually tired of the marketing by then and the final days are excruciating. So I disassociate with it mentally and go out of my way to push my anticipation towards apathy and in time, that's what happens.

We cope with stress in very unique ways and if the stories of cities being bombed or how we behave in terrible disasters, a lot of us are REALLY good at burying things deep in our minds, simply as a way to cope with the situation.

That's not the entire explanation of your disposition right now, but it is probably a little bit of what's going on.

I find myself in the opposite position, given how sad Episode I made me and how I consider Episode III the worst of them all, I am surprised that I am so hyped, that I am actually excited for a toy franchise that has delivered me three films I can no longer stomach to watch. And even more strangely, I feel absolutely confident this time I won't be disappointed. I am either the most naive fan on Earth, or I sense this time, it will be different.

(I do recognize many of you love the prequels and all power to you.)
