Yep, and total unadjusted gross (worldwide) for the entire Star Wars franchise now sits at $7.7B......if TLJ knocks it out of the park with a total $2.3B, it will push the franchise over $10 billion....!!!

R1 barely cracked a billion ww. If Disney wants thier investment back they better make a fourth trilogy.

How much did it cost to make & market? So what did the Mouse pocket? 300 million?

But you know that Disney gets also its money from SW from books, TV, video games and, most importantly, toys. I would be very surprised if their investment has not returned yet and if it did not, then it will by the time TLJ does. Besides, don't froget that RO is the twentieth highest grossing film in history of cinema. According to Box Office Mojo, its production budget was $ 200 million and you can safely add another $ 100 million for marketing.

You are absolutely on the point.

They bought it for just over 4 billion dollars....HOWEVER....only half of that was cash and the other half was in Disney stock and shares.
So with both Star Wars movies tallied up, it is sitting around 3.1 billion or so for Disney. Figure they probably kept at least 50% of it going by fairly conservative estimates of how much studios keep. (staying conservative here but Disney is likely on the upper end of how much they keep)
    That's 1.55 billion dollars.

Figure that last .55 or so was spent on making and marketing (ish)
and you're still looking at just under 1 billion dollars (ish) in two films.

And that's just their box office.

Hasbro paid 225 million just for the license to make Star Wars products...not including Disney's cut of sales.

So, staying conservative, you end up now around 1.225 billion (ish) and counting just on two things.

Here's where your point of toys, books and games come in to play.

Disney, in 2014 made like 40+ BILLION off merchandising. Forty. Billion. Dollars.

In 2015 on Force Friday, when they release the slurry of new toys...Disney allegedly hit ONE BILLION in just one damn day.

It's estimated in merchandising Star Wars alone contributes FIVE BILLION of Disney's overall haul.

So yeah, It's safe to to say the House of Mouse has already done it's work on the purchase.

It hasn't completely wrapped up just yet, but it's looking like this movie is going to clock in less than $3M behind The Dark Knight. Domestically, that is. Worldwide, it's a little less than $30M behind the total gross that The Dark Knight Rises had. Which is still ahead of the total that The Dark Knight made worldwide, for frame of reference.

I'll have to check but I think they said there will never be a director's cut.

There probably won't be, but I suspect that they'll release several of the deleted scenes eventually. Even though they said there aren't plans for them to do so right now.

They can't do a Director's Cut bc of canon issues too.
    So makes sense.

That's a wrap, it seems. Rogue One has officially finished its run at the box office. (Although it seems to be playing until Friday at one location from where I'm standing, so I'll keep looking to see if the numbers budge.)

Rogue One should've made more money than the force awakens. All episode VII had going for it was being the first Star Wars movie in 10 years.
