Alright, so Solo is nearly out, so it's time to do another one of these threads.

If you were around when I did this for The Force Awakens, Rogue One, or The Last Jedi, then you already know how this works. I will be using information from BoxOfficeMojo to provide daily updates on the film's financial performance both in the United States Of America and abroad. BOM should provide good statistics on domestic performance per day, but the way that they update international grosses don't provide the same kinds of updates (that is to say, you can see the cumulative performance in a specific region by weekend, but not necessarily day-by-day).

Dismal and China seem to be the norm when it comes to Star Wars. For whatever reason, it hasn't caught on over there. Perhaps the idea of rebelling against an oppressive government is a bit too risqué?

If it ends up making around $300 million domestically then it'll be ok. I have a feeling though that this one is going to be a slow burner. People seem to like it, and hopefully the word of mouth will mean it'll have longer legs than is normal these days.

The original films were banned in China so they simply don't have the history the rest of the world has with the franchise.

The OT was premiered during the presentation of Force Awakens in 2015 in China and they thought that those movies were really bad, just chessy space opera, with chessy special effects

What does this have to do with the films being banned so that audiences never had connection? It's just gonna magically happen during a marathon 30+ years later.

Have we come to the point in which the media depends upon China for our views on any film?

well still not surprised, honestly the marketing for this movie has been very bad to begin with, just like the usual marketing for mid movies of disney

I'm guessing that the movie will play more like a middle-level Marvel movie stateside. The film might have the problem in that expensive reshoots cut into the movie's overall profitability, but I imagine that with the abbreviated marketing campaign, the movie probably didn't cost as much to promote.

Currently, there's not a lot of competition for Solo to face for the next few weekends, so if WOM builds in a good way then this movie won't have a lot of trouble. Even if it is a rare bust for Disney, it'll hardly be the end of the brand considering that the plan seems to be that future non-Episode movies to have budgets in the $125M-$175M range.

My predictions is lower. $270-$300 million domestic so it will end between $600-650 million worldwide.
