Analysis of domestic week eight (February 5-February 11):

TFA posted a 9.57 million week, fourth most for an eighth week in movie history, behind Avatar,Titanic and Avengers. It had normal week to day drops between 13 and 29 percent ; it did not obtain any daily records. It's biggest hit was Super Bowl Sunday when it took a 59% drop. Overall weekly drop was 33.3 percent, with strong holds except for Sunday. TFA finished the week at 908.6 million.

The eighth week saw TFA showing in 2262 theater screens; it is down to 1810 screens in week nine. Deadpool, How to Be Single, and Zoolander 2 are taking screens from it. In terms of trajectory, it is most closely tracking the first Avengers movie. This could always change.

The interesting thing to note this week is that TFA is doing better on a per screen basis than The Revenant and Hail, Caesar! Zoolander 2 looks to be a bomb and HTBS isn't performing great, so per screen TFA could beat those soon as well.

Until we get a hard date on the DVD release, I am currently projecting that TFA will leave theaters at the end of its fifteenth week (March 31). However, Avengers stayed in movie theaters for only 12 weeks, and then came back for a two-week run in the 18th and 19th week.

Future projection, revised to include this week's results and assuming TFA is in theaters until March 31:

CURRENT TRAJECTORY: If TFA stays at a 30% week to day drop, it will hit $920 million domestic in week ten and finish somewhere around $929-930 million.
If TFA goes to a 40% week to day drop, it will hit $917 million domestic in week ten and finish somewhere around $922 million.
If TFA goes to a 50% week to day drop, it will finish around $918 million.

if it goes to an Avatar/Titanic trajectory and starts showing stronger legs, then this could happen (these numbers are probably low as with such legs it should stay in theaters beyond its' 15th week):

If TFA goes to a 10% week to day drop, it will hit $925 million somewhere near week ten, and finish around $955 million.
If TFA goes to a 20% week to day drop, it will finish somewhere around $940 million.

Phew! I was worried that this might be the first week that the movie isn't in the Top 5.

Bear in mind that these are just predictions. Box Office Mojo predicts it at place number six. It's not hard to imagine that some of these movies (which are not that great) will fall on the list during the week and that Star Wars will climb up again. We'll see.

In fact, this is Deadline's new list:

    1). Deadpool (FOX), 3,558 theaters / $47.5M Fri. /3-day cume: $118.4M-$123M /4-day: $129-$136M/ Wk 1

they have low balled TFA every week though, lol. I predict a actual a few hundred thousand larger on the 3 day weekend. I also predict a 5th place finish for the 3 day holiday. Its been under estimated every weekend. Weekdays for TFA have been on par with JW. However, weekends takes have been in the middle of Avengers and Titanic consistently.

    Weekend Actial

    1 N Deadpool Fox $150,000,000 - 3,558 - $42,159 $150,000,000 $58 1
    2 1 Kung Fu Panda 3 Fox $26,000,000 +22.4% 3,844 -143 $6,764 $100,262,387 - 3

Per theatre average TOP 5 for STAR WARS

looks like it has a chance at 935+ million

It now has no chance to catch Snow White and gain top 10 all-time status

Snow White increased another 5 million last week and is now

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Dis. $948,300,000 $184,925,486 1937^

Snow White has jumped from 928 to 948 in less than three months due to inflation I'll assume.

At this moment, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a little less than 158 millions behind Titanic worldwide. If April 5th DVD release date is correct, it has a little more than two months to make that money. It's not impossible, but it's unlikely. Still, we can hope. :)
