Since 45% of TFA's total gross is domestic, it would require TFA to get at least another $70M in the US alone, which is very, very unlikely. To accomplish such thing, there needs to be a serious promotional campaign ("see it one last time before it leaves the theaters") from Disney, which has other movies coming up in the next couple of months that perhaps need more support (Zootopia, Jungle Book, Civil War, Alice through the Looking Glass, Finding Dory). Furthermore, TFA has been released in every market worldwide, making a substantial increase (+$90M) from international markets very, very unlikely too. Only a re-release at a later stage could move TFA past Titanic.

PS: April 5 is only 45 days away, which is less than two months.

Look at the bright side - it beat Titanic's original record by a substantial margin, and in a much shorter period of time to boot.

Those inflation adjustment models are so stupid by design and based on a flagrant misinterpretation of inflation mechanics. Really those inflation adjustment lists don't say anything at all :)

    Sorry, been slacking on this

Analysis of domestic week nine (February 12-February 18):

TFA posted a 9.16 million week, third most for an ninth week in movie history, behind Avatar and Titanic. It had up and down fluctuations, due to the holiday weekend, with day to week increases of as high as118% (for holiday) and drops as low as 34.7%; it did not obtain any daily records. Overall weekly drop was only 4.7 percent, a very strong hold (in part due to holiday plus Super Bowl was week before). TFA finished the week at 917.8 million.

The ninth week saw TFA showing in 1810 theater screens; it is down to 1618 screens in week ten. In terms of trajectory, it is still most closely tracking the first Avengers movie. This could always change.

The interesting thing to note for the ninth week is that TFA is that it finished less than $300 per screen lower than first week Zoolander 2 (which has about double the screens).

Until we get a hard date on the DVD release, I am currently projecting that TFA will leave theaters at the end of its fifteenth week (March 31). However, Avengers stayed in movie theaters for only 12 weeks, and then came back for a two-week run in the 18th and 19th week.

Future projection, revised to include this week's results and assuming TFA is in theaters until March 31:

CURRENT TRAJECTORY: If TFA stays at a 30% week to day drop, it will hit $930 million domestic in week eleven or twelve and finish somewhere around $936-937 million.
If TFA goes to a 40% week to day drop, it will hit $925 million domestic in week eleven or twelve and finish somewhere around $930-931 million.
If TFA goes to a 50% week to day drop, it will finish around $927 million.

if it goes to an Avatar/Titanic trajectory and starts showing stronger legs, then this could happen (these numbers are probably low as with such legs it should stay in theaters beyond its' 15th week):

If TFA goes to a 10% week to day drop, it will hit $930 million somewhere near week eleven, and finish around $955 million.
If TFA goes to a 20% week to day drop, it will finish somewhere around $945 million.

    its an estimation by deadline.com
The estimate is based on where its at right now at 928 million. I'll assume they take into account a expansion in the next few weeks. TFA drooped to 1000 theaters but the expansion will be coming soon.

940 ish seems to be about right. I'll agree with them

552 theatres and i'm grateful to still have two within my immediate access.
saw it yesterday with two other women in a far-flung movie house for a noon matinee.
looks like it will be the last time for me as the matinees will be gone next week.

if i get crazy, i'll try to go one last time tomorrow, but it's doubtful i'll make it.
    good bye, cinema Star Wars!
    hello DVD.
