Just saw the movie today, and, while I still have much to contemplate, I would like to share some of my initial personal amazement with my fellow fans:

Last year (on Jan. 28, 2016, to be precise) I proposed a scene of Luke
    on the battlefield
    :

Imagine Luke so in tune with the Force and therefore so powerful yet patient and wise he would not need to fight much or at all.

Then imagine him striding confidently into a battlefield toward Kylo Ren or Snoke as AT-ATs, TIE fighters, and stormtroopers all train and drain their energies upon him but with no effect.

Luke goes forth against all perceived odds, drawing upon all he has learned, tapping the reservoir of peace he has filled in his absence.

Imagine AT-ATs brought to their knees with simple steady gestures. TIEs whisked out into space. Then stormtroopers, and perhaps Snoke himself suddenly fleeing the scene because Luke Skywalker Has Arrived and it is all too apparent no one here is a match for this.

And as Luke approaches Kylo Ren, who was foolish enough to remain and believe he stands a chance, Kylo swats frantically and relentlessly at his former master, but is incapable of landing any blows with his sword, which Luke regards with pity and then relieves him of with merely a reach.

Kylo, exhausted, humbled, and broken by this spectacle begs to be struck down, admitting finally he was mistaken to believe the Dark Side could be stronger than the Light.

Luke lifts the lightsaber and hurls it far away. Instead Kylo is forgiven by Luke and offered a chance to start over. To rebuild what was destroyed. To come home again after all that has transpired. To know there are those who would remember who he once was, as was true of Vader-turned-Anakin. Redemption. The prospect of a life and a personal place in this universe thought to have been all but lost. Compassion.

There are things far more powerful than power.

    (Link to original post.)

Seeing this materialize on the big screen, to a certain degree, was an incredible surprise and, while not entirely fulfilled to the extent I imagined it unfolding, it was rather stunning and emotional nonetheless.

    Even the
"hurling [the lightsaber]" away idea appeared in there, even though it happened well before the ending scene.

Aside from that excitement, still so much to process =)

    I love that scene
these 2 scenes. And love that we see them from both Luke's and Ben's perspective.
One scene that I forsaw, came true ;);) and with the almost exact same setup ;);)..
Luke walking down the stairs on Crait to meet Leia. In my vision he wasn't walking down the stairs, he was walking through a door opening and there were more people in the room. Besides that it was basiclly the same.
Although, I emidiately saw that his look was different. He looked more like his previous self from his days with Ben. But I didnt really thought to much about it other than it was strange that his hair plus beard was brown again ;);)..

It's nice when that happens, isn't it?
Although truth be told I don't like your scenario much, and I was happy with the version we got in the movie. This is why:

That would have given Luke god status. That kind of thing has no place in SW. Sure, it could be used (and I know it has been used in the EU...which explains why it's no longer canon), but it would be ridiculous. The one thing that the force "wants" is balance, and having a god walking around is the exact opposite of that.

Humiliation is no way to convert someone to the light. Proving that the light is stronger than the dark through displays of power (which is impossible anyway), is also no way to convert someone to the light. In fact, that's how force users are converted to the dark side. On top of that, the strength of the light side lies in stillness and compassion, not displays of destructive power.

In your scenario, raw power would have been proven to be the most powerful thing. The whole idea sounds like having your cake (the light side prevails) and eating it too (it prevails because it's best and most powerful in all ways). It's impossible.

LOL, I really doubt that =)

I do hope, though, us fans can inspire the storytellers!

For me, I'd say it a power akin to what might be the nearest thing to "apotheosis" as might be attainable by a mortal staying truest to the grandest ideals of the Jedi philosophy:

the ability to stand against all evil without succumbing to it or becoming it.

Luke already proved he could do that in ROTJ.

For me, this was just taking it to the natural next / ultimate level.

Luke Skywalker securing his epic legend for all ages =)

Notice how even the children at the end of the movie briefly mention his name in the midst of telling a story in their own language.

He went out literally at the peak of his powers without betraying them to the dark side.

This, I believe, is why he was able to disappear on the island: he was fully at peace with himself and knew it was time to become one with the Force.

For me, a fitting conclusion of an amazing journey, and a permanent metaphor / meta-commentary for the saga as a whole.

Yes, I was happiest with the way it played out as it did in the movie, minus those additional theatrics.

Luke's peace was his power at the end. Peace with himself, with his purpose, and with his life, for all its imperfections.

Definitely not a god. At the very least, though, arguably among the greatest and wisest of the Jedi of old, capable of bringing a fitting conclusion to a flawed Order while setting the stage for a new and inspired generation of Force-wielders.
