Would anyone else like to see this? Maybe they can bring the character back in a rebooted story of sorts taking place post RotJ. Have him fighting against the Imperial remnant again as they transition into the First Order.

I'm sure someone else could come up with a better idea for this but I just would love to see something from this time period---only canon this time. Guest appearances from the OT gang, new and old planets, Luke's Jedi Academy still in operation, etc. The only difficulty is you sort of need Sith to fight against which would require some tricky story work with Vader, Palps, and the Inquisitors long dead and Snoke still in the shadows (I assume).

Jedi Outcast and Academy are by far my favorite Star Wars games and are likely never to be replicated but I'm all for someone trying. Maybe Respawn is working on something like this (it should involve sword fighting from the early announcement video).

They should re-master the games like they did for COD. Or I'm hoping the new games to come will be good enough going forward. I played Jedi outcast/academy for hours... now I'm really enjoying heroes vs villains in BF.

I suppose they could do that and just consider them Legends.

I feel your pain. It irks me to no end that my favorite game of all time KOTOR is now noncanon. I only played the Katarn game where you fight Desann (do not remember the title) so my knowledge of the series is pretty basic but I remember thoroughly enjoying it. Your pitch of him fighting a rising First Order would be a great Netflix series.

I'm completely down with a Dark Forces reboot. Same goes for KotOR, Republic Commando, Rogue Squadron, X-Wing, and so on.

That would be Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast which I prefer over its sequel Jedi Academy.

The game just had a great atmosphere. You really felt like you were alone infiltrating Imperial installations and seedy places like Nar Shaddaa. I also think the saber combat controls were a little iffy (in a good way) which made you feel really slick when you managed to clear a room out like a boss. There was a nice learning curve to the saber combat. Multiplayer was great. Players began playing in a sort of honorable 1v1 duel system which I don't think the developers foresaw.

Honestly the game is still enjoyable today. The level design is more old school whereby you are finding keycards and backtracking a lot but it isn't bad.

I thought the lightsaber duels were really fun. I like that one or two hits meant death. You did not have to spam the crap out of someone to win.

The first dark forces game gave me a nausea feeling every time I would attempt to play it. I say jedi knight df 2 and mysteries of the sith are my favorites next to jedi academy. Ive pretty much played almost every sw game minus the lego ones. As of now SWTOR is my fave mmo. I hope that one day it becomes part of the new canon. I honestly feel more drawn to the old Republic era than the galactic civil war. While it spans upon thousands of years before the PT and OT timeline, the stories and characters are more interesting worthy enough to explore in adapting within a series of trilogies and spinoffs. Not to say i have grown detach to familiar legacy characters like obi wan kenobi and the Skywalker/Solo clans, but i feel Lucasfilm would be wise to branch out and create some new material that can be very exciting and fresh. There is so much potential they could do with The Old Republic Era. :)

Same here, all those old FPS games did. Some of the newer ones do as well. I played Dark Forces all the way through but I didn't bother with the second (I'm not even sure I was aware of it at the time), nor the third which I guess is an expansion of the second. I bought Jedi Knight II having never heard of Jedi Knight I and not realizing it was part of the same franchise as Dark Forces. I wasn't able to get into it and I think I may have been a little confused about just what was going on. I don't remember what it was, there may not have anything you needed to really know/remember from the previous games but I got the sneaking suspicion (tipped by the II in the title) that I was supposed to know who these people were and that I was missing something. And after shooting around a level for a while I had forgotten what I was doing there in the first place. Plus I just wasn't feeling the gameplay, I've never really been into FPS games that much (except Halo) and I don't think I made it far enough in to get to the swordplay.

The Lego games are fun but might not be for everybody. I grew up loving Star Wars and Legos in a time when there weren't any Star Wars Legos so I find it fun to see all the vehicles and characters in that setting. Though at 36 the games aren't as challenging or entertaining as they probably would have been 25 years ago. I think just about any Star Wars fan would get some kick out of them though.

I love Kyle Katarn's skills, I enjoyed his presence in the Jedi Knight series & would like to see him appear in another one, time will tell.

I wouldn't mind a rewriting of his character via video game, since his old canon would kind of contradict a lot of new canon anyway. Star Wars is clearly doing that with some old EU stuff (Thrawn, Mandalorian Wars, etc) and if Katarn was to be brought back, it would only be proper for it to start via a video game.

Plus, I never got the chance to play much Dark Forces or Jedi Knight games as a kid, so it would be cool for me to finally connect with the character.

A Dark Forces reboot needs to happen. I honestly don't care whether it is canon or not, as long as it is a first person shooter. In fact I feel so strongly about it that I made Duke Forces, my own Star Wars total conversion of Duke Nukem 3D.

In my opinion, what got lost in the later star wars games was the gun play. Using a light saber and force powers is great, and should be part of the game, but the guns should play a large role in the action as well. I didn't like it in the later Jedi games how you were forced to use the light saber to kill force users.

And yeah, I'm new here. Hi!

    Welcome!
And yeah, I could totally see that. That was one of my favorite parts of KOTOR- you had a good amount of choice on what weapon your heroes use.

Yeah I really want Old Republic material in games and books specifically. Especially seeing the Sith order in the new canon and what they were like.

Finn is new canon Kyle Katarn
I have seen a lot of people compare the two (Stormtrooper turned rebel, potential force sensitivity etc.) and I agree with them for the most part, I wouldn't be surprised if in Ep. 8 or 9 Finn breaks into First Order records and discovers his real name is Katarn (no first name though) and imply that his father was the real Kyle Katarn. So I don't think they will bring him fully back but rather just apply certain aspects to Finn.

1 st - Very Good Job Man, i completely support fan mods for pc games, i myself have my works on Jagged Alliance 2 and i'm the maker of the only working Jagged Alliance 2 Wildfire Mod.

2 nd - Just too bad you mod Duke Nukem and not Doom 3, because Doom 3 is my favorite game EVER.

3 rd - How could you state that you didn't like the later SW games because of the light sabre use or overuse, please do a favor to youserlf and play "Jedi Knight II" and "Jedi Academy" and erase those sentences from your mind, it's pure heresy.

The thing I appreciated about Jedi Knight II was that they had the restraint to not introduce the lightsaber to the player until you were many levels in and had to make use of the blasters and such. This made the moment you finally got your saber into something special when it happened. The game took some flak for this approach by some, partly because they felt the shooting element wasn't great but I still think it was the right choice.

I think there's a reason they repeated that trick for Jedi Outcast. Great game and, like one of you said earlier, the mp was great. 1 on 1 saber duels with the other players standing around it.

About remaking Dark Forces, yes please! That game was hard man, I remember the level where you have to rescue Crix Madine, took me ages. If Rogue One wasnt made, I think using story beats from DF would have been intriguing to see translated to the big screen. A lone mercinary in a cool spaceship, bare handed fighting with mini rancors, the whole Dark Trooper plot, great stuff. At least it's nice to see they incorporated part of the Dark Trooper designs into Rebels.
