After the short scene in Rogue One, I'd sure like to see a stand alone Vader movie set between Ep 3 and Ep4 where he hunts down remaining Jedi and pockets of Rebel cells!

I've been wanting a Vader standalone way back when ROTS was released, but after seeing R1, I think he is better used in spurts, but hey, I'm all for it if they could develop a great script, and secure a good director. If the Han Solo film is good, I want a Vader, Fett, and OB1 film asap. Fingers crossed lets see what happens. As far as it being R rated, well after the great reception of Deadpool lets go for it. It would be a SW first, pretty much like R1, in terms of it being a gritty war film, so let do it.

There's absolutely no reason for Disney to make an R-rated film with a brand as family-friendly as Star Wars, and unless Darth Vader goes up against a bunch of Aqualish goons with a lightsaber, the violence in Star Wars is inherently going to be pretty bloodless.

I do think that they'll make a Darth Vader standalone eventually, but it - like everything else that's bound to come out of the franchise from this point on - is going to be PG-13.

Too much fan service and over exposure of the Darth Vader character will cheapen him. No more Vader-centric films please, he's been in enough already. We know his origins, we know his internal conflicts and his ultimate redemption. There isn't much more to add without it being just fan service to violence-hungry fans. Go read a comic or play a game iinstead.

We can make a bunch! The 1st 1 can be called simply Vader!

    Then....

    Vader Kills. Then....

    Vader Kills Again. Then finally.........

    Vader Kills In Space.

Will make it R! Will have an ex Jedi hanging out at a Twi'lek cat house. Unnecessary nudity all around! The Jedi mind tricks the poor females into playing games. Then all of the sudden Vader crashes his (tie) through the front door & starts whooping tail!

    We'll get Quinton 2 direct!

I agree. I would rather have them leave Darth Vader alone with our cool image of him before they start making crazy things and ruin him. The Prequels gave us enough info and Rogue One was a wonderful bonus but I'd rather see Darth Maul again in the big screen than having Disney over expose Vader.

I thought they were going to do something like that but a TV Show? Not rated R of course. I don't ever see them doing a rated R anything.

It's mostly fan speculation that they could do something on Netflix that's darker than their usual output, but it feels like wishful thinking considering that they've repeatedly stated that televised, live-action Star Wars is a ways away.

Could be interesting a rated R SW movie. Not like "Dredd" but something creepy, suffocating... With Vader, Old Republic era... Too much stories to tell.
    Why not...

There are many other cool characters they could make an R rated movie with. Leave Vader as is, or give him a part (the same size as in R1) in the R rated bounty hunter film. That may or may not be made...

After the PT turned down my interesst of Vader, I pretty much overlooked the incredible potential in his character. He is one of the greatest villains ever created for a reason, and R1 proved this once again. Yes, an R rated movie about him would probably be great, and even more succesful than Deadpool.
Although there is little to no chance of Disney releasing an R rated SW...

I think Rogue One and Rebels have covered him enough. Any more screen time in the practical movies will make him feel like a cartoon character.

I get a little tired of the R Rated talk surrounding franchises like this. Could they make an R Rated movie? Sure, they certainly could. Should they make an R Rated Star Wars movie? I would say no to that.

The fact is, the franchise doesn't need to go R Rated to explore the darker side of the Star Wars universe. With weapons like Lightsabers and blasters, they already have a built in way to keep the violence mostly bloodless. Additionally, there is no reason to add language into the movie as they could just use substitute Star Wars swear words like they do in the books. Additionally, we don't need sex or nudity in Star Wars films either.

It's pointless to make an R Rated Star Wars movie when there are plenty of Sci-fi franchises that are already doing the R Rated bit better anyhow.

Lastly, you guys underestimate the public backlash that would result from an R Rated Star Wars movie. The franchise is thoroughly cemented as a family friendly franchise. It isn't the same as taking characters like Deadpool and Wolverine who are already suited to an R Rated approach. Deadpool, while fun, isn't a character that families gather around to experience in the same way they do with a franchise like Star Wars.

If Disney makes an R rated Star Wars movie, it will be my Star Wars monster movie when I finish writing it

I think we also have to take into consideration what can constitute an "R" rating here.

saying the F word twice is an R rating.
saying it once still keeps you at PG-13.

Realistic blood can quickly send you to R ratings.
But if Vader slaughters Bothans and they have, idk, yellow blood....still PG-13.

    Nudity?
Only if it's sexual in nature would get you an R rating.
Non-sexual nudity could still keep you in the PG-13 ground.

    Drugs?
Well our country hates drugs the most so that gets you an R for almost any use of drugs.

It's actually three times as long as it's used as an expletive and not in a sexual way. The MPAA is weird.

I wouldn't complain if a Vader movie comes out tomorrow! But for the reasons mentioned above it seems like it would be best if they cover other ground first. Then maybe by the 2030s they can come back to the roots. I agree all SW movies will be PG-13 and there is no need for an R rated film for violence. They certainly don't need to go there for language when this galaxy has lots of non-curse, curse words like "frag," "blast," and "nerfherder."
