It's said the new models are almost twice the size of the old Imperial Class SDs. To my eyes, it looks like the FO more or less took an old SD and just built up more around it. Has anyone said anything or done any illustrations to compare?

It would be interesting, although maybe a little too Mad Max, if all of the new FO SDs were this way, but also each one being unique.

It might also be interesting to see some of the other post-Empire splinter groups and the way they've evolved separately from the FO. I kinda doubt we muddy the waters that much in the films, but I bet it's an area ripe for exploration in comics and novels.

I dig the new Star Destroyers... there is one really, really cool shot early in the movie on the bridge of the ship. While the characters are talking, you see some structures in the background that are part of the ship... I really enjoyed that attention to detail.

The new SD's appear to be fresh/ new constructions; remember... most of the SD's were destroyed on Jakku.
I'm excited to see if there's like a new FO SSD in episode 8... along with more varieties of Tie fighters & SD variants (kinda like how the Correllian ships had different models, like the medical frigate & the giant cruisers)

its ether in the visual directory or cross sections but they now use Kyber crystals to power there weapons & the other great shot in t3 d is a prow on shot as the whole thing looks like it coming out of the screen there whole design is very well done & hope fully we will see more than one of them in ESP. 8 & 9

The visual dictionary strongly hints that the First Order does indeed have within it's fleet, SSD style warships. From the visual dictionary data file: "The Resistance has limited intelligence of the First Order fleet, and many fear that the 'Resurgent'-class is not the largest of the new Star Destroyer designs.

Also, I think the medical frigate from the OT is indeed Correllian but I'm fairly certain "the giant cruisers" were actually of Mon Cal design. I'm assuming you're talking about the giant cruisers from Return of the Jedi. If you're not I apologize.

The Resurgent-Class Star Destroyer, built by Kuat-Entralla Engineering.

Yeah, I liked that bit too, although I'm still not keen on the assymetrical "conning tower." It just looks wierd without the 2 geodesic shield generators.

I thought the bi-level design with the connecting truss was interesting though...

I still don't know what Han was talking about when he spoke about outrunning the "big Corrrellian ships." The Correllian CR90 corvette is the largest Correllian ship I'm aware of (in canon), and it only comes to 150m length.

For the record, the Rebel Fleet at Endor consisted of ships from 4 different manufacturers/systems.

    Correllian: CR90 Corvette
Kuati: EF76 Nebulon-B Frigate (Redemption, a.k.a. "the medical frigate")
    Gallofree: GR-75 medium transport
Mon Calamari: MC-80 Star Cruisers (Home One, Liberty)

Woops yeah I meant the Calamari ships!

I can live with the assymetry... I just wish they had used real models for the ships for where it would have been possible :(

Yeah the bi level thing is really cool... I loved the shot when Poe flew through the ship's bottom.

The Nebulon B Frigate is one of the best capitol ship designs, B frigates & the SD's are my favorite of those old ships.
