After seeing The Last Jedi, JJ Abrams stock up or down?

Sadly down, because he generalizes the whole fandom with these statements. That's really not cool. The things people criticize are far more diverse.

 

I guess up? I remember pre-7 that was JJ you're my only hope. Then 7 happened, then it Rian you're my only hope. So, with the fandom it appears the next person up to plate is the savior.

 

Regarding TLJ, because JJ didn't direct it and had no direct role in its writing, I am forced to say my opinion toward him remains the same.

Now, as far as I know, JJ always seem to start these awesome premises but leave it to others to mess it up. e.g. Fringe. The alternate universe concept. It rocked, I loved Bolivia. Then the stories went steadily worse under other people..... And the show got cancelled.
So I think it's just the way he works. I won't hold it against him. This time it seems he is actually Forced to finish what he started (puns intended).

As far as JJ's remarks regarding TLJ "haters". Directors these days... I get that he didn't actually say "All you haters are sexists." But he might as well have said it. You can't say what he actually said without offending a lot of regular people. I for one don't appreciate being "generalized".

Do people who works with SW, Lucasfilm top honchos realize they are actually digging a deeper hole every time they make up excuses. How about a general statement guaranteeing better work. Like, "We understand the passion of SW fans, and we owe our audience to make better SW film every time?" Not "Hey you, you don't like our SW films? We don't care. You are no fan, Bye!"

 

You say you understand he didn't generalize and then say you don't like being generalized?

If people are easily duped by bad journalism that's on them. Not on JJ.

 

I said he didn't say quote "all haters of tlj are sexists"
He gave the same message by different words. It's semantics. There's no argument possible for his meaning.
As I said, they don't seem to know that every time these SW director speak they are digging a bigger hole for themselves.
