Just watched Solo: A Star Wars Story again (4 times in theater....once at home)

Sorry guys....it's the best one. It's not Empire level good, but just based on pure fun......I mean.....it's hot.

To me, this is the best Han Solo performance of them all. I know y'all will disagree, but we got this hurricane going on.......so......

When you say “best...” do you mean the character or the actor
    ?

    I love this film.
It looks and feels the most like a perfect mix of the old and the new.

    Cheers,

I just assumed since the film 'bombed' so bad, that most would disagree. Alden was just as much Han Solo as Harrison Ford was.....if not more. It's a really sweet flick.

Out of all the newer Star Wars films, Solo is the one I am most likely to watch again and again and again....

I like Solo, but I don't love it. The stakes are never high enough for it to grab me like some of the other films, but there's no denying it has great moments. The character moments put this one higher for me that Rogue One. My other complaint is the film is too dark. There's no doubt that the cinematography is beautiful, but it's way too dark for most of the film. Obviously this was a choice they made. It just didn't work for me.

I'd rank the Post-Lucas films like this:
    1. The Last Jedi
    2. The Force Awakens
    3. Solo
    4. Rogue One

Why is it that allot of fans put the Latest Star Wars films first? So once episode 9 is released it'll be the best Star Wars film? The darkness of the Solo film was like a Rembrandt painting. Films are subjective just like art, you may not like Rembrandt, and thats fine.

    Post Lucas ranking:

    1. TFA
    2. TLJ
    3. R1
    4. Solo

It's my favorite of the post-Lucas films and I actually like all of those films (yeah, someone's going to send Boba Fett after me now :D). And sorry @Rogues1138, that ranking of the post-Lucas films has the latest movies first! ;)

I love the simple, but fun, adventure that the film has. It's refreshing to not focus on the fate of the galaxy or the continuing Rebels Vs. Empire/Light Side Vs. Dark Side conflict for once. Not to mention the fact that Alden Ehrenreich perfectly captures a young Han Solo, Chewbacca arguably plays the biggest role he's had in any of the Star Wars films, and most of the new characters are quite likable. Top that all off with some great action scenes and an awesome soundtrack and you got yourself a nice, self-contained Star Wars story!

This isn't what I felt (hey, I'm not slapping anyone ;) this is just my thought, I'm not complaining about a fault due to the movie or the actor).
For my part, I wasn't able to "see" Han Solo through Alden Ehrenreich - ok the suit, ok the blaster, ok the wookie... But I still have some problems with his face and his voice. Here in France, where I live, they didn't use the same actor than OT to dub HS voice. In the OT, "frenchie" Han Solo has a very identifiable voice and tone, and he doesn't have the same in SOLO, and that was quite disturbing for me).
So I had problems - and I repeat: it's all my fault ;)
Perhaps I need to rewatch it again.

Aoh yes, yes, YES !!!!! :)
He was EPIC. Finally our beloved Wookie got a role as tall as him !!! What a great moments, especially when he encounters Han.

I love owning this film. It may not be the “best” SW movie and I don’t think it’s really supposed to be. For me, Solo’s lighter tone and smaller stakes make watching it as fun and enjoyable as any other SW movie. I know I will watch this one regularly.

I can certainly acknowledge it’s not a perfect movie and I might have wanted a few different things in it (I didn’t need to know where his name came from, etc) but there isn’t a single moment in the movie that I didn’t at least like. The Han and Chewie scenes and their back and forth bring a huge smile to my face every time I’ve watched it.

There were moments in the prequels and TLJ where I was almost embarrassed by the awful dialogue or jokes, but Solo avoided any true missteps.

Solo got a bit of a bad rap during its theatrical run and probably will never get much due in the SW pantheon across broader popular culture, but I think Ron Howard and team did a great job.

It will never happen but I’d LOVE to see a sequel with this cast.

Watched it again last night at home. Had seen it once in theaters, and.... I found it even better this time! The wife loved it as well.

There's so much to love about this movie if you're a fan of the OT. I mean, seeing Star Destroyers being built. Seeing the actual SD shield generators being lifted to be installed! Great action scenes, good humour and good actor performances overall.

I liked Lando's performance before but now I enjoyed it even more. Lando and Han scenes worked very well.

If you're a fan of the OT, fan of Han Solo, Chewie, the Millennium Falcon, always wanted to know how those two met, how Corellia looked like, do yourself a favor and watch it! It's a good and solid movie.

    My current post-George rankings:

    1. Rogue One
    2. Han Solo
    3. TFA
    4. TLJ

I wonder about this.....at first I would have agreed but some of the things we are hearing like the tidbit from J Kasdan give me hope.

Can’t wait for this Tuesday when Solo is released on Bluray (I still love physical media for movies so I’ve avoided the digital release).

I’m looking forward to multiple viewings so I can really talk more specifics about the movie. But the one thing I keep reiterating as why Solo appealed to me (I’m 45 years old), it’s a damn fun movie!

That’s why I liked it so much is it harkened back to the OT in terms of just being a fun ride where you really care about the characters. I think the franchise had taken itself too seriously since 1999 as I think the more ambitious it tries to be, the less it works for me. Solo had all those elements that worked for the OT and I’m really looking forward to the release next week!

I think part of it is just that it's 'the newer stuff'. When I was a kid, I thought ROTJ was THE BOMB!!! Now.....it's just a bomb (to me.....).

Another part is that they just get better at making the films after making the one before. My two favorites are SOLO and TLJ. Not because they are the newest (I don't think) but because the craft is just better now. Who knows?

Side note: As a kid who was raised on the OT......I NEVER re-watch the OT. Odd, yeah? But I'll rewatch prequels and R1/SOLO on continuous loop. Crazy, no?

Also...let's not forget that we have another decade before we start hearing the opinions of the kids who are growing up on these new films.

Who knows; in 20 years there could be a whole generation who consider Solo one of the top SW films because it was their childhood adventure film.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

I think alot of people do this with new movies, and it really goes to the point that it takes time/multiple viewings to gauge a true opinion. How many times do you hear when a blockbuster sequel/prequel is released, "This is the BEST movie of the franchise!" or they goto the other exteme and say, "This is the WORST movie of the franchise!" Usually it ends up somewhere in the middle.

I can say that I thought ROTJ was WAY better then ESB back in 1983, and then it took time (and me getting older and understanding the themes of the movies), I did a total role reversal in the early 90's and realized that ESB was WAY better then ROTJ, as I started to really notice the flaws in the final installment of the Trilogy.

I guarantee if we took a time machine 5-10 years into the future, most fans list of the newer SW films would be ranked totally differently. I have been watching TFA, TLJ, and R1 countless times and I still can't rank them with certainty like I can regarding the OT movies. I can say that liked Solo the most regarding the new Disney SW films (on first viewing), but who is to say that won't change in a few years?

I constantly debate with myself on whether the standalones or the ST will hold up better down the road? If Episode 9 can tie it altogether, maybe my thoughts might change on TFA and TLJ? Or maybe the Standalones end up holding up better simply because they are their own entity, so you can watch them for what they are?

As Yoda said, 'The future is clouded....." lol!
