Which will be the age-appearance of Luke Skywalker's Force Spirit in episode IX?

Will it be Luke at his age when he "died" on Ahch-To?

Will it be Luke from Crait? Already there Luke's aparition was made around decade or more younger, whe a defining moment between him and Kylo Ren happened in Jedi Academy?

Will it be Luke from his prime moment that defined him as a Jedi, when he destroyed the Sith on Endor in episode VI?

Will J.J Abrams accept this intellectual challenge?.

Or will he just take the easy path and have Yoda spirit instead?

I think Mark/Luke is not in IX anymore, that's why they have Yoda appear again.

I would prefer the Crait Luke.

Mark probably has a contract for three movies, so I think he will be in IX. Personally I hope his role will be pretty small. I don't want Yoda to appear at all btw. Let Anakin take his place.

I like think that since he became one with the Force, he'll use his Force projection youth serum. At least I would if I were him.

Luke should be the age he was when he last met with whomever he appears to... For example, if Luke appears to Rey, he should be old Acht-To Luke (it would be weird for a younger less recognizable Luke to appear to her). If he appears to Kylo, he should be slightly younger Crait Luke...

This is part of the reason I really disliked how they changed Anakin's image in ROTJ, cutting out old Sebastian Shaw. Why the hell wasn't Luke like "who the hell is that kid?" or why the hell wasn't ObiWan turned into Ewan Obi too?

We need rules people otherwise this whole Star Wars thing seems really unrealistic! ;)

i'm fine with either Ahch-To Luke or Crait Luke, but would prefer Ahch-To Luke since that's really how he looked when he died.
and like @NinjaRen, i feel like we had a great last moment with Yoda; Yoda has no connection to any living character now, so let him rest.

with Luke now dead, i worry we won't get the Force ghost Anakin scene we were all hoping for.
but everything is pretty much up in the air since Carrie Fisher died. : o (

If Mark won't do it, then get Sebastian Stan to portray a young Luke.

Actually with the death of Carrie Fisher it's even more likely now that we'll get force ghost Anakin and a cameo of Lando.

i agree.. it's setup for a nice long chat with Anakin on Mustafar, and an appearance by Billy Dee if he's well enough to do it.

it's time to get out the biggest artillery you have left JJ !

i hope so. i'm worried that Luke will have to be stand-in for Leia, and then Anakin would just become redundant (in terms of Force ghosting).
but anything can work if they're clever enough with it! : D

if JJ can give me a scene with 3 generations of Skywalkers standing together, i will be happier than a pig in.. something that makes the pig happy.

whatever i can think of though.. i'm either leaving Leia out, or what i'm coming up with is because of her absence. Once we've seen ep9 i would dearly love to know what Trevorrow's plans were before Carrie passed away.

I'm guessing it will be the Luke we saw on Crait. The movie kinda coded the Ach-To look as broken-down, cut-off-from-the-force Luke, while the Crait look was triumphant, reconnected Luke. Makes sense to carry this over.

What I really want is a re-creation of the playing-catch scene from Field of Dreams, but between force-ghost Mark Hamill and force-ghost Hayden Christensen.

    pie???

yeah, this is where i feel like it's the wrong trio! or at least Leia should be there too.
i have always liked the idea of Anakin coming to tell Ben: hey buddy, you mighta taken a wrong turn there.
and honestly, i don't know what Luke can do at this point except antagonize. hahahaha

Ben is arguing with a force ghost Luke about being torn and wanting to return to the light but he doesn't deserve to. Luke is trying to drive home the fact that anyone can be redeemed. At that time, Anakin appears over Luke's shoulder, giving him a warm smile. Ben sees him, and just knows him... and then he breaks down.

Grab a tissue, Darth Snow's head canon is a rough place.

    I would guess Crait Luke.

The only way I can see Anakin in there is if Ben redeems himself a la Vader, a sacrifice to end the Skywalker bloodline, then we get a tribute to RotJ final FG scene.

I highly doubt, and don't want, Yoda to be in IX. I just don't think it would make any sense (unless they want to expand on lore again...).

Though I wouldn't mind Leia being in the final FG scene with Luke, Anakin and Ben, I wouldn't have an issue if she wasn't either. It could easily go either way, since she never embraced her bloodline or trained as a Jedi like the other 3. Then again, she is a Skywalker. So again, either or doesn't matter to me.

Every world, even imaginary fictional worlds, have their own rules. That's what allows us to immerse ourselves within that world and suspend our disbelief. So the realism is the realism the stories have established for that world. Usually, most fantasy worlds are loosely based on our own. There is definitely a lot of wiggle room, but the more writers take liberties, the more likely some fans get pulled out of the story.

I prefer SW FG to be mysterious and ambiguous. My greatest fear is that they delve too deeply into FG and kind of ruin that aspect of SW. Out of all the expansion on lore and canon, FG are the ones that scare me the most. It's one aspect of SW that I don't really want answers or set rules, but at the same time, have writers and director err on the side that less is more.

I get what you’re selling chief. My issue is that if we have Anakin FG appearing to characters that never met him, now we could have random Jedi appearing all over the place. If Qui-Gon appears to Rey, I would expect her to say: “who the Blast are you and even if you tell me something wise, I don’t have a lick of attachment to you so why don’t you go fade into eternity you random m’f’er!”
    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 26, 2018, Original Post Date: Apr 26, 2018 ---
Point being, even if you want FG yoda, it would be stupid as hell because Rey has no idea whatsoever who the hell Yoda is.

There isn't like a Ten Commandants of Star Wars or anything like that. About the only rule we get is Yoda saying, "a Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." That's really it in terms of lore rules. He didn't say this is when a Jedi's power will stop growing or anything like. Plus, they're living in space and thriving in it. That gives them a lot of writing freedom. That should bother your suspension of disbelief, but it clearly doesn't to begin with. So, what's your point?
