TFA is now finally listed at swedish state cinema's website under upcoming movies and it will get a age limit of 15. I believe this is news, at least for me. All other films in the saga had age limit 11 or 7 as far as I remember.

    http://www.sf.se/filmer/Star-Wars-Episode-VII/

Edit: It may be false information. I just called "statens medierĂ¥d", the authority who reviews movies and sets age limits in Sweden.

They confirmed that they had not yet reviewed it. SF (the site I linked to above) automatically sets 15 year age limit when they are not sure, so that explains that.

I did, however, find out that the movie will be reviewed on December 3 in Sweden.

How can they rate a movie that isn't finished?

Edit: that site also says the movie is 0 minutes long. I'm guessing their information may not be final.

Nah, it's probably just a very short film.

If its close to finished they fill out a list of the contents of the film, language, violence, sex, nudity ect and send those contents to be reviewed.

    Basically what @Duke Groundrunner said.

The way I understand things, is that they usually submit a sample piece which is supposed to contain the more extreme content of the film... often they will get feedback
and sometimes even edit the final film as a result.

I have trouble believing that any ratings would be out yet. I remember seeing numerous tv spots in Disney channel for Age of Ultron just a few weeks from its debut that still had "this film has not yet been rated" attached to it. I don't typically pay all that close attention to when movies get rated so perhaps Age of Ultrons late rating is not the norm. Considering the editing process is not finished I don't see how it can be officially rated. Something could be added in final edits that could potentially sway a rating.
    Edit
@ArynCrinn may have just answered my question.

Is this something you believe about Sweeden's rating board or about ratings boards in general? Because it seems absurd. What value does a rating have coming from someone that hasn't even seen the whole movie? I admit I know nothing about rating systems outside the U.S., but I've read two long articles and watched a good documentary that were critical of the MPAA rating system, and I've never heard that they don't watch an entire movie before rating it. On the contrary, I've heard of instances of ratings being changed over as little as one second of footage. The MPAA board also stresses that context plays a big part in their ratings - which would be tough to back up without watching an entire movie.

I'll own that you may be right, I'm certainly not an expert, but I'd love to know where you get you information from. I find the subject interesting.

Believe I about read it somewhere a long time ago... though I'm probably mixing it up with the process for rating games. A sample from a game makes more sense, because you can't expect them to explore every pixel in a game, whereas a movie is only a few hours.

That said... the movie still doesn't need to be completely finished to get a rating, but such a rating would not be final.

Good points. I find it odd that they would write 15 by chance, as I said 11 is pretty much standard for Star Wars.

I will investigate this further today.

Interesting theory! Perhaps Plaguies is reviewing the movie from the future.

Also, the 0 minutes long thing would make a lot of sense considering JJ's cautious approach to releasing information of this film. To keep the maximum amount of secrecy possible, each minute of the film is divided up into one-hundred something 59 second parts that you have to go back to the theater each year to see. We will all be yoda's age before the ending of the film. Coincidence? I think not!

(This is all sarcasm by the way. Just in case it wasn't obvious to certain people).

This would be a super dumb move. All the kids in the world couldn't see it in theater with their families ? I don't buy it.

Hey Kids, we're gonna see the last Star Wars and you can't come with us for Christmas ...

    No way.

Why couldn't they see the movie? Couldn't the parents just take them to go see it?

And I guess he's wrong because of what I said.

Isn't that just a guideline not a law? I see really little kids in PG-13 movies all the time even R rated ones.
