SPECULATION Ages of the characters in TFA

Dude, no way Rey and Finn are 30 years old I think they are both between 18-22 years old.

 

R2 and 3po are wrong.

R2 was in the TPM.
3PO was to but the storrie are that Anakin created 3PO.

 

Rey and Finn will, likely, be between 20-25. Aside from them, yep!

 

I would agree with everything except-

Kylo, 28 at the very oldest. Assuming the rumors about his parentage are true, that would mean he was born one year after the Battle of Jakku which Battlefront established as taking place 29 years ago. His parents are not going to want to have kids until the galaxy & the Rebellion are in a good (or at least stable) condition.

Rey- abt. 17-18. Old enough to be an adult, young enough to still want her parents to find her. Also, Luke vanished abt. 10 years ago (according to Mark Hamill, I believe), around the time all of these events happened with Kylo & Rey. If so, then she would have been abandoned at 8 years of age. But Daisy says Rey was 5 (plus, she'd remember a lot more if she were left at the age of 8, I think). Maybe Luke left around twelve or thirteen year ago, but we'd have to stretch Mark's statement pretty far to Make Rey even as old as twenty.. So I'm going with 17-18 but definitely no older.

Finn 18-20 He's a new stormtrooper, but he's been in training all his life. His "career path" probably didn't need advanced education. Although, of course, he's not of our galaxy, 18 years is about when people are thought to be adults. In the US, that's when you can enter the armed forces.

 

If I had to guess, I'd say Rey and Finn are around 18-22, and Kylo Ren is around 28-32.

 

I don't remember which interview it was, but it was mentioned that Rey is 19, so I assume Finn is around the same age. Poe is already alive in Shattered Empire, which takes place right after ROTJ, so he's likely between 36-40, which is Oscar's actual age.

 

I'd imagine that Rey is about the same age as Luke/Leia were in ANH (19) or Daisy's age (23). No way is she 28-30.
Finn is probably the same age as John Boyega (23).

 

She does, but I can see them as having her younger if they want a time jump between any of the films.

I could see this. Although she looks a bit too old to be 17, this isn't unsual by hollywood standards where people in their mid twentys play high school kids.

If Ep 9 takes place 10 years after TFA while only 4 years passing in real life, this makes it easier for her to play 27 when she is actually 27. Whereas if we have her as 23 in this film, and then there is a big time jump, it won't be believable.

See portman in TPM and ATOC if my above reasoning wasn't clear.

 

Agree with that MOSTLY, except Rey is TOPS 25, Finn is TOPS 23, and Lars is probably over 100+ .

 

The timeline is compressed. There're only 30 years between the end of VI and VII, in a GFFA, so he'd be about 33 or so. He is definitely the oldest of the three new main characters, though.

 

He can't be older than 30...most of the actors are playing younger, and the casting range was 30 - 37...plus Poe is looking too young

 

Yes, teenagers have almost always been played by people older than the characters age, just because it's so hard to get good teen actors. Sometimes it's almost unbelievable. I remember watching Grease as a kid thinking, wow, I don't know anyone who looks like that! John Travolta was THIRTY FOUR in that role as a teenager!

I get what you mean by the age thing given time elapsing during a multi-movie story arc. If you start on the older end, the actor can end up on the young end of the age range and still be pretty believable.

@Deeerborne is right, though. The books have him born sometime during the OT. He's 30-33 in a GFFA, he was born before ROTJ though it's not clear exactly when. Maybe all that cloud cover on Yavin IV kept him looking young.

 

As I had said earlier about how castings happen, they will play a "vague" age range of "18 - 25" for the duration of their characters .

Shattered Empire.

 

I thought that takes place AFTER ROTJ, though ...

 

He was born sometime during the OT. He's a baby at the time of Shattered Empire.

 

There is no way Rey and Finn are 28-30. More likely in the 18-22 range as others have speculated. Kylo is likely 28-30 even if he and Rey are siblings. Poe is 30-35. We can be confident with this as we know he is very young during Shattered Empire which takes place right after Endor
