Alden Ehrenreich, you look a little short for Han Solo

Filmmakers have all sorts of tricks and cheats to deal with size differences. If you can find any stuff on Youtube or elsewhere about the filming of The Lord of the Rings, they go into all the different techniques that they used to give the illusion that actors were half their actual size- and some of them were old-style practical effects and camera tricks.

I'll take an actor who can act like Han Solo but doesn't look exactly like him over an actor who looks exactly like him, but doesn't act like him. I trust that Lucasfilm cast Ehrenreich on his acting ability, and that the filmmakers will use some good ol' movie magic to correct any glaring physical differences.

They don't need movie magic to make Ehrenreich taller. It's unnecessary. I do not why Disney and Lucasfilm should engage in any effort to make him the same height as Ford. I think it would be incredibly shallow and a waste of money for them to make the effort.

It's because the height discrepancies would show through if he stands against Chewie, Lando, and/or anyone else that we've already seen...although they could do something similar like they did to film the hobbits with Gandalf in the first three LOTR movies.

This fixation on Alden Ehrenreich is becoming very disturbing to me. Many seemed to be more worried about his height than his ability to portray a younger Han Solo. Is society really that shallow? I guess so.

 

I'm not fixated for the record...I'm just commenting on the environment. As an executive working in Hollywood, I guess i have the mindset of how the higher ups think but physicality is a huge thing right now especially when taking over a role ( not including James Bond) but talent is needed, I agree, but there needs to be a certain continuity in order to make it work.

 

Height matters not

 

What continuity? If a tall Jon Hamm can get away with portraying same the character at an older age that a much shorter Daniel Radcliffe was playing in the same television series, why should anyone care about Alden Ehrenreich's height?

This simply sounds like an excuse to indulge in some form of shallowness. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to allow Ehrenreich's height to bother me. You can . . . if you want to. But personally, I think you'll be making a big mistake.

You might have a point there. At least height is not as big as a deal as eye color. Wait? Aren't his eyes blue or green? LOL.

Well, it seems in the younger depictions they can get away with things like that. It's like younger Jean Grey has blue eyes (Sophie Turner) whereas the older one have dark brown ones (Famke Janssen).

 

bruce wayne is supposed to have blue eyes and christian bale didn't. eye color might be a minor thing. i dunno.
it goes back to whether he can pull off the character believably in the end.

 

At that point it's artistic interpretation .
