Thanks Pawek. I had participated on that thread but I really didn't even remember it. That said, did you see the movie?

I watched it and I really liked it yet I have to say it was a bit odd what they did with Shaws story and the Engineers.

Yes I felt the same way Lady Oola. The movie was great and the Xeno's were awesome especially the Deacon but I too felt that they just tossed the whole Shaw/Engineer/origin of life story down the toilet and concentrated more on David and the origin of the Xeno's. I get bummed when you have a main character survive so many hardships in one movie just to bite it in a lame way in the next film. Kind of brings back bad memories from Alien 3.

Right? I hated what they did with Newt and Hicks as well and it was a bummer to see Elizabeth Shaw get the same treatment. And yes, I loved the creepy white Deacon best of all the Aliens. So sad that the Engineers story got scrapped though. :(

Love the Alien franchise! How did you see Covenant already? Loved Prometheus(got it on blu-ray), I want to know what happened to Shaw. I watched the prologue with Shaw. Is that it?

Alien Covenant started in the theaters where I live on thursaday. By your response I'm assuming it hasn't started where you live right? Regarding Shaw I have to tell you that you might not like it. She died off screen and apart from the message from the trailer all you see of her is her corpse that shows you that David experimented on her. The whole story about her seeking for answers from the Engineers was just flushed down the toilet as well as the movie just gives us a scene where we see the ship arrive on the Engineer world and David kills them all right there with the black goo.

Supposedly, Scott still wants to do a movie between Prometheus and Covenant, although I'm really not sure how that would work.

To answer your previous post - yes, I saw Alien: Covenant on Friday and I enjoyed it. However, there a couple of things that bugged me. First one is that members of the crew were still increibly stupid, had barely any sense of self-preservation and behaved irresponsibly. The second one is, as you've mentioned, the way they treated Noomi Rapace's character and the whole plotline of Prometheus, although it din't bug me as much as other people. The last aspect is more of a concern than a negative but I can't stop thinking about

how people would react to the origin of Xenomorphs and that they are result of David's breeding experiments. While I dig it, I'm not sure if other peole would like it as much as I do.

Except for that, I really liked the set design, locations and especially cinematography - this flm is a true eye-candy. I also enjoyed the crew interactions and acting was also on a good level (especially Michael Fassbender.) So, as a fresh fan of the Alien series (saw Alien in January, Aliens and Prometheus two weeks ago) I can safely reccomend it.

It's great to know that you are also a Alien fan Pawek and I have to say, if you haven't seen the extended edition of Aliens then you should get your hand on it cause all the additional scenes expand the story in a great way.

Is it the version with a scene where Ripley gets to know her daughter passed away? If that's the case, then I saw the extended cut.

Yes that's the one. It also has the scenes where Newt's family discover the Engineers ship and her dad gets facehugged and the one where the marines put the auto guns in the corridor to shoot all the Aliens.

Yeah, just like the trailers suggested...What a shame. Although not completely unexpected, as Prometheus was apparently disliked. I liked the engineer plot as well, and I was curious about the sequel. It opens on this thursday where I live, but I'll going to skip it if it's just a regular Alien 3 style horror flick with little to no connection to Prometheus. Anyway, thanks for your recap, you saved me 5 bucks.

I felt the same way! If I had negative feelings for David for what he did to Charlie in Prometheus, it turned to full hardcore hate in this movie! The guy really sucks man! All his high and mighty acting at the end of the first film and even then he thought nothing of betraying Shaw and doing what he did to her!

I also feel the same way as a few of the guys here in that I was real bummed that they just trashed the whole Engineer/Shaw story just to focus on David and the Alien origin. :(

I recomend you to see it though. While it did trash many story elements we were expecting from Prometheus it did still maintain a few elements from the story. David and the black goo play a huge roll in this movie and I have to say it wasn't a messed up monstrosity like Alien 3 which I greatly dislike. Covenant is a great movie for any Alien fan and it still has its connection to Prometheus but sadly I have to say that Ridley Scott seems to have given in to the fan pressure from Prometheus and made this more of an Alien film.

It's saved me an unnecessary trip to the theatre too... I'm one of the few who (death of Hicks and Newt aside) didn't mind Alien 3, especially in the longer workprint version. For me though, that's where the franchise should have stopped - Alien Resurrection was a by-the-numbers, desperate cash grab which really failed to capitalise on some of it's more interesting concepts. It would have been far more interesting if Ripley8 had suffered from more duality due to the DNA mixing (fighting with and against the aliens at different points as she tried to suss her true nature).

Disappointed by Jeunet's movie (and I love the films he made with Marc Caro), I was hesitant about the Prometheus prequel, but got talked into going with some friends... and for the love of the Sith it wound me up. Allegedly 'smart' scientifically driven characters doing fundamentally stupid things, destroying the mystique of the Space Jockey, the origins of the xenomorphs and retconning when humans first came into contact with this unknown alien menace in the process.

With Covenant now apparently repeating the same trope as Alien 3 and killing off the previous films survivor - rending their survival in the preceding film utterly pointless - and now suggesting that the Xeno's we know are largely exist due to the tinkering of Fassbender's android just dilutes the 'alien-ness' of the original films... and yet, Scott wants to make even more :(

I didn't mind it that much either, altough it was one of the few rather dissapointing films from Fincher. Since there wasn't really any story to be told after Alien 2 tbh (at least in the way they've chosen), I accepted the film as one of those unsuccessful unnecessary sequels. But I very certainly wouldn't pay to watch the same thing again in a theater...
All those aspects didn't bother me that much. Sure there was stupidity, especially the biologist and geologist "arc", but the overall story kept my interest till the end. I even rewatched it ever since. I thought they at least added something to the franchise which is finally worth watching (unlike Alien 3 and 4) and expands the story. Tbh I'm really not that interested in the prequel story of the Xeno (the non- canon version in Alien vs Predator was fine to me). Just make a relatively good movie which isn't a retelling of Alien 1-3, that is all I wan't from these new flicks.
Ridley Scott should just do whatever he wants... He's 79 years old and the film will most likely be a financial success regardless. And it's his story from the very beginning.
