The movie already has a ton of hype. They are starving the audience and letting the lack of trailers build the anticipation. It will ramp up a ton in the coming months.

Waiting more than 3 months between releasing trailers as the release date rapidly approaches is tantamount to marketing suicide. It's not just Star Wars fans that they'd be addressing with the footage released, it's everybody.

I would say you are correct in that statement. It will be trailer length, but still considered a teaser in terms of content.

I would agree, but disagree here. For most films this would be true. However, when the fall comes everything ramps up all media will be saturated with it from what I'm being told. They are being very strategic in this approach. More so than most films.

I don't think there will be a trailer as such but possibly behind the scenes or just scenes from the movie.
also...I don't expect any OT cast, just NEW cast members.
hope I'm completely wrong though :D

You got to figure that a lot of the toys are complete now. Hasbro has a 3rd party factory in China. I would think most of the 3 3/4" action figures will be made there since labor is cheaper. Now to send that to distributors in North America, Central and South, it takes like 40 days by container ship to get here (The boxes of figures will be loaded in those metal containers you see on loading docks). I would have to think that shipping should be starting very soon to get here and then logistics takes over by getting them to the distributors. I would assume by early August they could be in the Americas so we might get some glimpses at some unusual figures we have not seen yet at maybe SDCC. Gabeesh?

Read their official release again. Disney seems to be pleading to us, "We can't say we're going to give you a cool trailer at SDCC, but we're going to give you a cool trailer at SDCC".

...so we're gonna get a cool trailer. Short maybe, with just a tinge of mischief. I mean its still debatable we might not get one, but come on the 8-ball says, "All signs point to Yes".

This is not the worst phase of a new film's release folks, no the worst phase is that awful 30-days to launch period when people every day adamantly claim they've "seen a rough cut" and start writing fake reviews. *shudder* :)

As someone who is lucky to have a cousin working as an animator for Disney, I've gotten the opportunity to go to several Comic Cons in the past couple of years. And looking at the schedule, Lucas Films will be on Friday in Hall H. Hall H on a Friday? This is going to be huge, expect a trailer or exclusive footage to be shown at the very least. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the cast show up for the presentation. Starts at 5:30 pm, so get in line early that morning or camp out the night before and sit through all the other presentations in Hall H leading up to Star Wars.

My cousin decided to go and have another kid, so I won't be attending this year. How inconsiderate is he? It's Star Wars man.

I am excited to see what they are going to show. I'm interested to see if we hear more dialogue. At this point we have two voice overs and one short line of dialogue. At some point, we are going to hear more dialogue but I'm not convinced it will be this time. If it is another teaser I don't think we will get much more dialogue. If we get the first full trailer I think we will see more dialogue but even then it may not be alot. The other think I'm interested to see in the next teaser/trailer is if we see Luke. The controversy of Luke's screen time is a hot topic. If Luke's screen time is limited, I suspect we may not see much more than what we have already seen. If that rumor is untrue than I would expect that at some point during these trailers we will see more of him. The anticipation is driving me nuts. Hopefully we will see something new again soon.

I'm sure we will get to see a new trailer, and if I'm wrong and we dont, well then all we have to do is wait a little longer. No big deal. :)

Do you really think so? I don't think there's any lack of awareness for this movie. if they didn't do even one more trailer, I doubt it would hurt ticket sales. There's going to be a burage of merchandise in what will feel like every store starting in September. The marketing partnerships will ensure the the brand gets near constant TV commercial exposure on every major outlet. It will be nearly impossible to ignore this movie.

Of course there will be more trailers. I've never seen another movie get lead bumps on the major news shows the day they're released. SNL did a parody of the trailer for gods sake. They know they'll get huge attention when they first show Leia and Luke. From a business perspective, you can't pass up free marketing like that.

But I don't think it's necessary to sell the movie.

    1. Hear what Kylo sounds like under the helmet.
    2. To see what Snoke looks like.
    3. To see Luke Skywalker on the big screen for the first time in 30 years.
    (4) To see if Rey's staff is in fact a light saber.

You misunderstand. 3 more trailers would make 5 total. Not gonna happen.

I think you under estimate the power of the force

When something tangible in popular culture reaches climax, the next big part of promotion is the element of surprise.

The plot will be kept mostly a secret and the promotion will be around everything else, including the secrecy.

    This is not tomorrowland
