So, I haven't been on the cantina for a few days and that's because I've really been thinking about something. I've been thinking about the possibility of me being obsessed with SW. I watch the OT and TFA four times a week, when I'm not doing that I'm on the cantina, reading theories and fanfics, and watching the shows. I really need all the advice I can get. Do you guys think this is being obsessed, or is this regular behavior for fans of something in general? I just can't get enough of SW, it's like I crave it. I've always liked SW but ever since TFA, that just got me crazy about it. It's like I really care about the characters and I can relate to some of them. The stories and lore are just amazing, I just cannot get enough.

And ever since the Rogue One trailer, it feels that my love for SW has gone up. I really want everyone's opinion on this so please, reply to this. I know, I may sound like a loser because all I think about is SW but if I am obsessed with it, I could seek professional help.

    You're not alone, @Ham Solo.

Sometimes, I fall asleep thinking about SW. And wake up thinking about SW. And quite often when I'm at work, doing work things, my brain is actually going "What did Kylo Ren mean when he said Ben Solo was weak and foolish? What was he so ashamed of? I should bring this up at the Cantina. Man alive, I hope Ben goes back to Luke soon. No no, first a thrilling battle with Rey and the Knights of Ren, then go back to Luke...."

    It's OK. We'll get through this. :D

Greetings my friend. I really don't think you are a loser and I'd like to help you but to give you a proper answer I would have to say that you must first analyze certain aspects of your life. Is SW something that makes your life fun or is it preventing you from having contact with the outside world? Does it get in the way of you developing personal relationships? These are a few things that can let you know if you are ok or if it indeed is turning into an obsession. I have met many people that get deeply into their hobbies because that's the way they spend their time since they don't have friends or family to hang out with or a boyfriend/girlfriend with whom to spend their time. That for me is perfectly normal because many of us use our hobbies as a way to compensate for our lack of relationships. Another thing is that we love SW and there is nothing more fun than to discuss SW with our friends and loved ones. This is perfectly normal as well as I can say so myself that there is nothing more fun for me than sharing all things SW with my wife who also loves SW. We love watching the movies ALOT and we don't tire of them and we love to talk about them and all things SW.

Yet here comes the point where it can become an obsession, there are people who don't want to do ANYTHING else with their lives if it is not related to their hobby. There are even some people who can't talk about any other thing than the thing they like and this can be harmful to said person as it can easily become a bother to those around him/her. Having a girlfriend/boyfriend who digs SW is super cool but not taking said person out just cause we want to see the movies over and over again or not being able to enjoy anything non-SW related is a sign that things are getting out of hand.

I once had a friend who loved SW just like me and we both collected and traded things SW. It was really fun at first but then his obsession with getting everything that came out got out of hand. My friend almost lost his wife and his house over his obsession as he couldn't enter a store and see something new that he didn't have. He sometimes wasted the money he had to pay the car or his house in order to buy all the figures or ships that had newly arrived. He got to the point were his wife was about to leave him but thank God he came too and quit before his marriage was destroyed.

Think about how your SW loving life is and see if it is not deterring you from living your life or if it is harming your relationships with others. If this is not the case then feel free to enjoy SW as much as you like cause you are not alone and there are others here who just can't get enough of that amazing galaxy far far away.

Personally, I have been trying to force myself to watch and do things not related to Star Wars just to broaden the horizons, as it has been a big part of my life lately. Doesn't help that my youngest daughter is obsessed right now, taking her stuffed Chewbacca everywhere. Get outside for a walk, read a book not related and do some other things. I understand, I have been having it in my dreams as well.

Amanaman said it. SW can be a nice COMPLIMENT to a fulfilling life, and as such, it is not possible for this -single one thing- to give fulfillment to all areas of life. What other areas in life do you find joy and fulfillment? Where do you put your creative and productive energy to? If it is an obesession you might feel it hindering your growth in other areas of life. That is the kind of honest question one should consider asking from time to time.

Thank you very much for the advice! No, SW doesn't get in the way of developing relationships with my loved ones. I honestly don't have many friends, only one actually. But I still socialize with people and get out of the house. You seem very wise, and thank you for taking the time to write this response, I really appreciate it. I feel good now!

Yes I will ask theses questions from time to time, thank you guys so much! It has made it clear that I really am not obsessed with SW, I just really love it!

Nothing wrong with a little bit of indulgence in the things you love. I used to watch the OT films on VHS growing up so much and so often (I think a movie a day on average, sometimes even all three) that I eventually damaged them in less than a year. As much as the others have said here, it's perfectly acceptable as long as it doesn't clash directly with your life's obligations. Frankly, even nowadays when I have a free hour or two, watching a favorite arc from the Clone Wars, browsing through this site, or even taking a peek at the SWTOR game is time best spent for me - because I know I'll most likely enjoy it.

The way I see it, as long as you have the time and you're wary of becoming obsessed, you can indulge as much as you'd like!

Hi! Not a problem like most of my fellow Cantina friends before me have suggested... it is good to indulge in something you love, but trying to achieve a balance. May the Force be with you always!

I can relate to you bro!
A few years ago I was bullied quite a lot and through SW I could escape reality. I read or watch SW everyday as well and can`t say I see it as a problem. This is my hobby, my community, my life and if someone thinks I`m nuts, who cares? I think we are all obsessed with Star Wars. I didn`t see ANH in the cinema, but my father have told me about my inital reaction to Star Wars several of times. He`s just a casual fan, but still he wanted me to see it, I mean it`s film history. I watched Star Wars for the first time when I was 3 years old. I didn`t understand what they say due to the fact that I`m a Swede, but apparently I watched the movie once and then I wanted to see it over and over again. Ever since I`ve loved this universe in a way only fellow SW-fans as you could understand.
    Star Wars #1!

Believe me there is a such thing as being obsessed with Star Wars, you have to embrace it! (But at the same time, you can have interests in other things)
