BB-8 is a great invention, amazing.

But it comes across as too cutesy, so far.

R-2 is still the OG droid that was just such a loyal pal to Luke.

This is Disney....cutesy is their M-O

    What do you guys think?

    R2 is still R2

    R2 is a legend

BB-8 is cool but never as cool as R2 to me

Yeah...people saying they now prefer BB-8 over R-2, really have no respect for the droid from back in the day.

R-2 will always be that special droid.

R2D2 is iconic. Unless this trilogy blows away the OT, he'll always be the people's champ. He's the template, the original.

Let's give BB a chance shall we? Ask me again after episode 9.
It's the film that makes/breaks the droid.

i am an old school artoo guy myself.
    But i already love bb8.

I appreciate the amount of thought that is evident in bb8.
You can almost hear the discussions between j.j. And kasdan:
Do we transfer r2-d2 to our new hero?
Is artoo a boy's dog? Would he fit for a female heroine?
Artoo belongs to luke. If luke is alone, you can bet he'd have his pal with him.

I even like how they made bb8 smaller than artoo.

The only character I could not bear to see die is R2-D2. He's been there for everything. He's seen everything. He's been a hero and loyal servant. His place in history is unparalleled. BB-8 may be the new pal to Rey or Poe and he may be likable and cute and even heroic. But it will be a long time before he can claim to be even a fraction of the droid R2-D2 has been.

    Loving the love for R-2.

Watching the films again, I think my second favorite character personally after Vader of course, may be this droid.

My favorite bit is when he is serving drinks in return of the jedi and c3 tells him how he wonders how luke will get out of his spot, and his response is so chilled as he is so sure his pal will get out.

If they DARE kill R-2......oh man...

Am I the only one who doesn't care much for any of the droids?
Except for this one of course:

Why does it have to be all or nothing? I love R2-D2 and another new droid isn't going to change my mind, but I can still really like the new droid as well. People haven't forgotten about R2.

It is way too early to tell. Only by the end of the new trilogy is when one can really decide which droid is preferable. Just my two cents.

"As a meatbag would say, I have a bad feeling about this" LOL so awesome.

HK-47 could very well be the greatest droid ever created for the Star Wars Universe; next to R2 obviously :)

We haven't seen BB-8 do anything yet. I need to actually see the movie to be able to answer the question.

    this is very true.

Plus, perhaps BB-8 is a double agent and actually evil...lol (doubt Disney would do that as they want this little guy to SELL TOYS)

honestly i like all droids from star wars.. aside from battle droids
as a kid i always liked the droid from jabbas palace.. the gonk droids and mouse droids were great too.. and the random droids that the jawas lined up for purchase at the lars homestead. i always wanted to know what all of them were designed for.

there's little to dislike in the original trilogy involving droids.. they all seemed so interesting and had their own charm.

im sure bb8 will be no different.

R2 and Threepio are the soul of Star Wars in my opinion, more than Luke or Anakin.

I prefer R2 (and 3PO) but I'm fine with retiring them. I can always enjoy them in IV - VI
