Episode IV - Establishes the most interesting part of the plot, Luke as protagonist and Vader as the main bad guy.
Episode II - Adds depth to Boba Fett ahead of his original trilogy appearance, foreshadows the dark side within Anakin without giving away the big twist, we get to see Yoda and Obi Wan in their younger days, making the transition in time to Empire seem more extreme, filling us with questions as to how things turned so sour.
Episode V - the big reveal is strengthened as we have formed connection to Anakin and now have to accept a protagonist as the main antagonist. We're placed more into Luke's shoes as he questions whether he should kill Vader or not.
Episode III - Leia and Luke are revealed as brother and sister in a more dramatic manner, we see how Vader comes to be and view The Emperor as the true villain, this also strengthens Luke's conversation with Vader in VI when he tries to turn him back to the light initially. Obi Wan's presence on Tatooine is explained.
    Episode VI

it would be fun to see an edit of the six films in a way that you could intercut to scenes from the original trilogy to scenes from the prequels and back

    it could be edited to be about 6 or 8 hours long instead of 12 and start it like george lucas might have wanted it to start ;

obi vs anakin fight right as they start to engage,(only show scenes when they do not talk) then

when you get to the scene where sidious saves anakin at volcano go to >

opening scene of ep 4 .

so basically the edit makes sure everything goes well together but first make sure you only use the scenes that you like!

I'm really surprised nobody has done that already. They could make use of the multi audio tracks and readjust the placement of the soundtrack to make it all fit.

i found certain scenes that really go well together. just attaching the final fight part of ep 3 directly to the star destroyer intro sequence of ep 4 adds an even more serious tone to the film. i think i might try to make an edit of the 6 films and call it : the machete edit

I always thought IV-V, I-III, VI made sense.

Start with Luke, identify with him, care about him, hear about the Clone Wars and Luke's father/Darth Vader for the first time. Once we find out in V that Vader is Luke's father, watch I-III and watch the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker and the circumstances surrounding Luke's birth.

At this point, you know how Anakin and Luke came to be who they are, and are invested in both of their fates. Now watch Return of the Jedi, deeply invested, simultaneously, in both characters.

Many nights I have condensed the STAR WARS SAGA down to a single trilogy watching episodes V, III, VI.
I call this THE EMPEROR'S CUT for each film has the Emperor in it.

    THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK:
    * "Echo-3 to Echo-7. Han old buddy do u copy?" we all know (excluding newcomers) their back story.
    * We still identify with the characters and go through their struggles with them.
    * We are left with a cliffhanger at the end.

    REVENGE OF THE SITH:
    * We flashback to the fall of Anakin Skywalker.
    * We then can identify more closely with Darth Vader and feel for him.
    * Seeing that a man is under the mask in part V we are given a chance to see him before he is "Twisted & Evil"

    RETURN OF THE JEDI:
    * We fear for all involved due to the cliffhanger of Ep. V and the Tragedy of Ep. III.
    * We watch on the edge of our seats as Father & Son duel hoping for the best.
    * After connecting with both Father & Son our hearts are filled with worry and fear for both until the climactic end.

This is just my personal viewing order \m/ \m/

Best order to watch SW is ANH, TESB, ROTJ and that's it.

Call me a PT bashing troll if you want, not my problem.

After reading Star Wars Ring Theory (Which I recommend) I watch them 1-6. Its simple and you get to end with ROTJ. If I was showing a child for the first time, 4-6 and then 1-3, so as not to spoil ESB. Showing an adult for the first time I would do 1-6. What adult doesn't know? How big of a rock would they have been living under?
