I just thought about this after watching all the prequels today. If you think about it Anakin has been a slave all his life. First to the hutts, then watto, then the Jedi code, and lastly Sidious. But finally he is free through self sacrifice. What is your take on this? You may already know this but I thought it could make a great discussion if it hasn’t elsewhere already. Who do you think treated him the best out of all his masters? I hate to say it but I think watto has treated him the best in his lifetime.

Yes, Anakin was a slave his whole life. Only by the help of death he could be set free. It's really sad.

    I do wonder.

I'm hardly a Jedi apologist, and I fully support the nuanced idea that the Jedi (particularly the order during and around the Clone Wars) was horribly flawed.

Even so, it seems like Anakin had some big issues with the Jedi, especially near the end of the Clone Wars (obviously) but I imagine that between his induction and meeting Padme again in AotC he was probably pretty happy. And as a Jedi hopeful, he always had the option to walk away.

I know that Shmi took the secret to the grave but it should be revealed in the future.

I believe that Anakin and any other member of the Order had the option to leave, whether they were a padawan, knight or master. As for whether he was happy during those ten years between "The Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones" . . . I honestly don't know.

"Set Free By Child"? No, I don't agree. Not quite. Luke may have inspired Anakin, but in the end, he made the choice to free himself. Nor do I believe that the Force had enslaved him. Anakin's decisions enslaved him just as surely as his final decision freed him.

No poor taste at all. That happened long before Snokie was horribly hit on the face.
When he met Shmi, he was young, he had blue eyes, blondish hair and numerous freckles on his nose...

    .. oh wait.

He is very powerful and, as is so often the case, other characters try to bend him to their will and control his power. Watto does so as his master when he was a child. Sidious does so as well. Even the Jedi are not 100% innocent in this regard, nor is Padme who tried to manipulate him a bit, albeit with the best of intentions.

I believe that, except for Shmi, Luke's intentions toward him are the most pure. He hates Vader and loves his father. He wants to avenge his father. Then when he leans that the 2 are 1 and the same, it is his love for his father which ultimately guides him.

It needs some kind of search to find out, but...
    [IMG]the hell, isn't that a beautiful guy ?

    I've actually never saw that.
I agree : he hates Vader, the same way the whole galaxy hates the Emperor's enforcer.
But he doesn't love his father : he has no father. Luke actually knows he isn't Owen and Beru's biological son, because he calls them "uncle and aunt". We can then assume he never knew his father, and spent 20 years on Tatooine wondering about who is his and what he looks like.
So I think Luke deeply needs and misses his father, since he's a little boy. Plus, Owen is not shown to be a particularly loving or caring parent.
When Luke faces the "ultimate villain", and learns that evil is his genitor, then he desperately tries to "kill the beast" in order to "get a father back".
That is how I've always saw Luke's move : he wants to know if that black cold villain can fill the hole, whatever the price...

He has definitely been a slave to many people and creeds throughout his life as The Chosen One
